Tranny dip stick incorrect readings YIKES
Strange but an important question. The tranny dipstick on my 64 dynamic 88 is giving me two readings. Now this is a bit difficult to explain:
The dip stick has a small metal cap at the base of the handle. When I push dipstick in only up to the rubber grommet I get one read. If I push dipstick in as far as metal cap I get another reading.
The metal cap is loose...I can push it down to the rubber grommet and hold not allowing it to move or I can let it travel to a point on the dipstick at which point it no longer travels. SO is the cap originally welded tight to the rubber grommet or was it always designed to move.
A serious issue...I am either low on tranny fluid or have too much.

I have noticed many members have reviewed this post...but no replies. I have had reservations about driving it with a potential incorrect tranny fluid level...any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.
I would check for signs of where the hat was originally, the part of the stick above where the cap should be located may look slightly discolored from atmosphere. weld spots or anything like that. This may be under the rubber seal hidden from view.
Failing that, just check your neighbours car......

I don't know the answer to your problem, but a transmission shop should be able to tell you how long you dipstick should be.
What transmission do you have?, there must surely be someone on this forum who has the same as you. Tell us what transmission you have and post up your question with the transmission type in the heading. That should catch the eye of someone with the same transmission as you, and all you need to know is how long your dipstick is before it should have a solid stop.
Roger.

The difference is 3/4 inch. And DMULLIN I do see a discoloration and a slight bump on stick that may be a weld mark. Being a Slim Jim the last thing I want to do is drive with an incorrect fluid level. I appreciate the feedback
