Broken rear window or "Stupidity strikes my 88"

1975 Delta 88 Conv. While tring to save the $250-300 install of a new radio and speakers from Best Buy I broke the back glass in the car. All went well until lowering the top and as the glass tucked neatly into the boot it unknowingly to me hung on the new speaker grills. This was the difference of about 1/8-1/4 in. from the flat stock grills. The top appeared to be the original so replacement was fast approaching but I did want to get one more summer out of it. Maybe someone can learn something from this so you guys just let me have it ,as I'm a big boy and can take it.

First ? Were the guide links in place? They guide the rear window down and back to tuck it under the pinchweld. Seen many rear windows get busted because they weren't connected.

Stupid

Not sure about the guides but all has (had?) worked O.K. for the year I have had the car . I did replace the relay. All the rubber is in need of replacement and the side windows kind of flop in.
1/4 windows need those $45. ea. rollers. It's a pretty nice car 91000mi. and even placed in a couple of local shows.I'm tring to figuire if these mid. 70's cars will appreciate my effort and $.

Hey, welcome aboard the stupid boat. I'm your Captian Tom and the same thing happend to me last year. I was inpatient and the weather was warm (for me) to go topless and I was putting the top down and....shattered glass everywhere. I needed a new top anyway, and still do, but it sucks driving around like a homeless person with plexiglass in the rear window.

That is a bummer. Don't worry about the car appreciating in value. You will never get as much money out of a project car as you put into it. That is just the way it is with old cars. Unless you buy a 69 Challenger, or 69 Chevy Camaro.

Post some pics!
