Unusual request
Hello all-
My parents live in the Hershey, PA area and will be celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary on Saturday May 18th. Their first car together was my dad's 1957 88 J2 (which everyone apparently called "The Bull"). It has great memories for them and started my own love for these cars. Short story is, I don't own one (dammit!) and was wondering if I could arrange to borrow/rent a 57 that day to take them to their (surprise) anniversary dinner if anyone has one in the area and would be willing to do so...I know it's a longshot but it's such a big deal to the family I though I'd try. Thanks for the time! - Mike

Maybe try the local chapters of the Oldmobile Club of America? Here's the link:

Great idea...To find a few willing owners a better approach might be if you ask the owner to play chauffeur verses asking someone to hand you the keys. I know I wouldn't hand a stranger the keys to my cars. You'd certainly need a back up plan driving mine if the day was rainy. Someone else may not mind rain, I would. Also Im sure there's some stip in the insurance BS that wouldn't cover an accident? This approach would be a great experience for both parties, IMO. I know I would enjoy it as long as I had control of my car.

Me either,( I would love a 57) but I may shed some light on the insurance thing. My 55 is used in weddings( mostly relatives but not always) and my insurance (Grundy) will allow my car to be driven by someone other than my wife and I if they are over 26 have there own insurance and have written permission from us with time limitation's and only for that advent. I've called on several weddings that I couldn't make and never has there been a problem. Other Insurance company's may be different...Tedd

The owner's insurance should cover any driver, UNLESS the car has been rented, which is a business transaction, which is NOT covered (although Tedd's post above would seem to say otherwise).
Everyone's got different things they'll allow with their car, but if you've got a nice car and are willing to swap cars with the other guy for the day, he may be satisfied with the "balance of terror."

Thank you everyone for your advice and help so far. I would certainly leave my new Chrysler 300 with the owner, and the 'chauffeur' option would work too. Clarification; it doesn't have to be a J2 optioned car.
