Trunk leak FOUND!! More questions arise

I posted about a month ago that my Delta's trunk was leaking. I found that the trunk seal was pushed out a bit and there was gunk upon gunk in the channel. The channel is now clean and the seal push back in place.

After 3 days of rain here in Philly, I pop the trunk and there is a puddle in there AGAIN The puddle is not very large, but it's there.

I noticed a drip of water on the beam inside the trunk which would be inside the fender/quater panel area I followed that up and I found that it's coming in from the body around the top of the back tire. I feel a small crack there.

It's coming thru the circled area, but not thru the seal, thru the body.

Questions:

What causes this?

What do I seal it with? I would think RTV isn't going to cut it

Isn't there a body seam in that area? If not that I would say the rear window. Depending on what you find 3M makes a seam sealer that should stop it

Ciba Fastweld 10...mix it up and spread it on

Try pouring water slowly on rear window, trying not to flow over to the trunk channel, to see if the rear window is leaking under the vinyl and traveling to what you think is the source of the leak.

Maybe that was the "Crack" I found. It did seem too perfect for a crack

This is what we do at the shop. Have someone lock you in the trunk with a flash light and use a hose to simulate the rain or just let the water pour around the openings. sometimes bending those chanels where the seal goes up a bit helps them seal better. I would just use a rubber sanding block and a 3lb sledge. I agree that you should check your seams as well .

My friend has an 84 Delta with a trunk leak as well. It turned out that it was a couple of pinhole rust spots under the trunk weatherstrip close to the rear window.
