seeking 78 delta aluminum hood info

hey all, I have heard it mentioned on here that some delta 88s came through with aluminum hoods.. upon lifting mine a few times, it seemed to feel really light but I never thought much of it. I think my car has one as the hinges are aluminum and the lift springs are about half the thickness of my other 70s cars. also, a magnet will not stick so i'm pretty sure it is. what I wondered was whether it was an extra cost option, or just came that way on some cars for other reasons. (time\place of production or any other reason) . I figure this is the place to find the answer! thanks for any info, dave

Take off the drivers door inside panel and get the build sheet that should tell you.

I'm not exactly sure what the reasons were. I had one as well. I'm told they are really rare, but I sincerely doubt that.

If there was a row of 1978 deltas in the junkyard, I'd guess 1 in 7 has the aluminum hood.

When the car had an aluminum hood it also had the aluminum bracing on the back bumper. I think there were other parts that were aluminum on these cars also but I can't remember what it was. I found them most often on the diesels but do not think that was any kind of factor as to why it got the aluminum parts.

Both my 77 Indy pacecars had the aluminum hoods and special hinge springs.

Does the years matter and will a 307 oil pan work as well?

All Olds 260, 307, 350, 403, 400 and 455 pans will fit each other. The Toronado pan is a little differant but will still work on the others. The big block pans were also a little differant but will not affect anything if you use it on a small block.

My 78 Holiday 88 had a steel hood to start with.

It now sports an aluminum hood taken off a boneyard run of the mill 78 4Dr 88. It had one of the hinges and all of the correct aluminum fasteners and springs. I had to find another hinge from another 78. That was a 79 4dr that was munched in the front, but the hinges were undamaged.

My car did come with the aluminum bumper stuff.

I saw an aluminum hood on a 1980 ninety eight. Could this be the same hood as on a delta or is it bigger.

I believe the hood lines are different. The hood won't fit due to year. BUT.. The springs and hinges will. I have a set from an 83 88.

The hood would be 77-79.

1977-1979 B/C body hoods are completely different from the 1980-1990 hoods and do not interchange.
