Issue with fuel float in tank
Issue with fuel float in tank
I pulled the tank yesterday thinking I had a bad sender but it seems that the sender is getting stuck in the cylinder after disassembly.
When I reassembled the unit I put the float at the bottom hopping that when I filled the tank it would come up.. Well after reassembly and filling the tank the float is now stuck on empty.
Couple of questions:
1. can I purchase a different sender assembly for this car as I have looked for one and no one sells it?
2. If I have to rebuild the current does anyone have the part number for the filter that is on the bottom of the cylinder?
3. for the float is it ok to sand some material out so it runs smooth on the bars or is it suppose to be this type?
4. last question could the gas make the float material expand due to the ethanol in the gas causing the float to know stick?
Any help is most appreciated.

I just responded to a similar question in this thread.

If you're talking about your Delta 88, my guess is that sender would work for you as well.
I have a '67 Delta 88 that had that float-in-a-can sender, and it had stopped working with the float always getting stuck no matter what I did to try to fix it. They're not made new. I found that a sender for a '72 Delta 88, which is made new, would work as a drop-in replacement.

That's the one. You may find that the gauge needle moves around a bit as you go around corners and over bumps because the canister served as damper for the fluid movement and that's no longer there. But mine doesn't move very much, and it's a small price to pay to have a working fuel gauge.
