64 Jetstar 88 front end question

So the info Ive gathered (a large part from this forum, thanks!) the J88 shares the same control arms with the Dynamic and Super 88s and the brakes with a Cutlass. Which is why the spindles are one offs, rare, and basically annoyingly difficult to work with. My question is can I swap a complete Dynamic/Super front end under my J88? Larger brakes and all. Will that give me more aftermarket/parts support or just be a waste of time? I building a mild custom out of it and Id like to avoid some of the quirks of the J88 (already had to deal with the waterpump, really dont want to go through that with the spindles) Thanks for the help!

You can swap the spindles and brakes, which gives you the larger wheel bearings and 11" drum brakes. Unfortunately, it also gives you a 5 x 5" wheel bolt pattern instead of your current 5 x 4.75" pattern. No, the smaller J88 hubs do not fit on the larger spindles due to the different wheel bearings. Alternately you'd need to redrill the hubs and rotors from the Dynamic brakes, but of course that gives you one-off brake drums.

Ok cool, that makes sense. I was thinking a complete setup, control arms, hubs, brakes. Forgot the bolt patterns changed. Right now the Supremes that Im running are unilug so I should be ok there. Im looking to lower the car and thinking drop spindles for a Dynamic would be easier to find. Thanks so much for the help!

I guess I'd be surprised if anyone sold drop spindles for any 63-64 Olds full size. These are not common with Impala, they are unique to the Olds and Buick B/C-body cars. In any case, your J88 front end uses the same control arms, bushings, ball joints, and steering arms as do all other 63-64 Olds full size cars. Only the spindles, wheel bearings, hubs, and brakes are different, and the hubs, wheel bearings, and brake drums are common with A-body cars. The spindles and brake backing plates are unique to the 64 J88.

Are you sure your unilug wheels have 5 x 5"? There are a lot out there today that only fit 5 x 4.5 and 5 x 4.75.

Yeah I love the way they look on it. Just would want the car to sit a little lower
