W27 Internals - are they original? rebuild?

Can anyone tell from these images if these would be original dated gears (not that it matters to me much) and can you tell by the images if there is an unusual wear. If I need to replace parts can someone point me to the correct items to use. Thanks.

I take the 43 corresponds to the 43 teeth but what about the 11 A before that? November first week (11A) or pinion gear teeth number (11)?

Is this a hairline crack or a stain?

43/11 = 3.91 gears

the pattern looks good if maybe just a little much in the toe.

looks like casting flash on the ring gear outer face is all.

You will need to see the pattern on both sides of the ring gear, drive and coast in order to determine if it's acceptable.

3.91 gear

43 divided by 11 is the ratio 3.9090909090 rounded up is 3.91

You need to take a backlash reading
The gear appears to be wearing fine for the type of car it probably was installed in THAT is very good ... Normally Original steep gears just dont make it very long if driven.
Usually you will find gears that were removed for even steeper gears like 4.56 4.88 something like that and 3.91 were shelved for years and forgotten about WHEN and if you find them.

It is too bad the ring and pinion did not get dated. I am sure the other numbers mean something...But even I do not know every code and marks for every rear type and year.
Pontiac will usually have the year last two digits like 67 68 69 and before that was the month 3 6 11 (1-12 month)

The posi unit has a Julian date on the right side, the pinion date code "50" February 19, 1970, and the ring gear appears to be "356", December 21, 1969. The housing should be stamped with a "assembly" date code next to the cover on the left side.

Was the differential making noise? was it leaking? Were there any issues?

I'll check the housing for a date code. It does not make the typical whining noise but is does have a hum to it, I think that may be the loose u-joints so we are replacing those. Also the carrier bearings may need replacing (is that what they are called?)

Bearings seal rebuild

If your going to do it...Might as well do it all.
When you remove the driveshaft...Pull the pinion yoke in and out and up and down and see if you have any movement...IT SHOULD only spin... period.

Got all the parts if you need. Just PM
