Is this a service replacement carb? Are the internals the same as original number?

Is this a service replacement carb? Are the internals the same as original number?

Hi All
With the carburetor threads lately I decided to dig out one I picked up a few years back. There is no two letter code on it, and I believe the four digit number is a date code. If that's correct, would it key out as the 256th day of 1977? Since I don't have the correct carb for a 1968 4 speed project car, would this one have the correct internals if I used it on that car? Correct on the date code and Service Carb origins.

Sneaky way of not stating the carb #
I venture to say yes, that '9253 will have all the right pieces that you need.

Why not just use the plentiful, affordable, and correct for all practical purposes, 7028251?

Thank you for the info Chris. Well, I've already got this one and I'd have to purchase a 7028251. I was also thinking that the 9253 might have the correct jets/rods to match the 8253 and I don't know if that's significantly different from the 2851. Then again, when I rebuild the 400 in the project car I doubt that I'll try to match the factory internals... so maybe it doesn't really matter. OK, we talked through that! Thanks for confirming what I've got

definitely a service carb. for the 2 reasons you surmised, no assembly code, and a "7" for the production year. all the internals will be identical to the original production carb. IF there were no service updates.

My brother and I did exactly the same thing for his '68 4-4-2 with the M21 transmission. The elusive 7028253 carb just wasn't there so we used a 7029253 service replacement carb. It runs great!!!
