Will this fit my rear?

Haha insert joke here right. It is a really nice cover. I have seen them in person and I am considering buying one. They have an O ring seal, dipstick and magnetic drain plug. Very trick if you ask me. I know I am going to be doing a Big brake upgrade so the rear axles will need to be pulled. So if I am doing this I might as well chaneg the rear gear and add a posi and if I do all that adding one of these would strengthen the case maybe help keep the rear cooler due to the finned cover and added fluid capacity. So good idea? And will it fit?

rear cover

Well I guess we need to know what rear you have...lol. If you have a Grand National or 442 olds rear from 1984-1987 then YES the cover will fit.

Seems a bit excessive of a cover... But to each his own. I pretty sure all newer GM rear covers for 8.5 have a magnet in them already.

Extra fluid probably is good but not really required. Diffs do not ask for much just keep the fluid level correct and most of the time they are fine.

If you like the look etc. I guess I can understand the purchase.

I would buy a T/A support cover that actually give structural integrity to the rear diff.

If you have the 7.5 10 bolt which should be in a 79 then no this one will not fit. Jim

I have the 8.5 which I have been told all wagons have. Just not sure if there are any differences in them.

It has no cap support, and those are made for trucks because they don't use sway bars. Chances are your sway bar will interfere.

The TA cover is a better investment.

rear cover

ONLY G-body Grand National and g-body 442 got the 8.5 in 1984-1987

G-body wagons recieved the 7.5 just like all the rest of the g-body cars
1978-1988 Monte carlo & SS, cutlass non 442, regal, limited, grand prix, malibu, malibu wagon, cutlass wagon, el camino etc. ALL same 7.5 rears.

IF you have a FULL size WAGON yes they came with corperate 8.5 10 bolt rear and that cover will fit.

Sway bar will NOT interfere with that cover you want on either the 7.5 or the 8.5 you are good to go if you can find the cover in a 7.5 or 8.5.

P.S. Remember this is your car...You make it so it reflect what you like and want. We are all just suggesting. That is what the forum is for so make your choice and I am sure you will be happy.

Take care, Jim
