Where are the c-clips located and is there a trick in getting them out?

I am taking apart a 89 trans am axle apart for some parts for a project? I have the diff cover off but cant figure out where the clips are or how to get them out? I'm sure when someone points it out I will feel stupid.

Thanks
Larry

Rotate the carrier. Push in the half shaft. Voila.

And if you're very lucky that stupid pin won't break off in the carrier.

that probably goes better after you remove the cross shaft which prevents the axles from moving inward.

Wait until you find out the bolt that holds the cross shaft in place is broken off down in there. Maybe that's just my luck, not others'.

Then w/o the cross shaft the gears it used to retain like to fall in/out and hamper your efforts.

Magnet on a stick helps retrieve the C clips.
