Is a safety loop really needed when running street tires? I have 295/40 nitto nt05's not the drag radial.

I wouldn't say it's needed but it is safe insurance. If you're asking about NHRA rules then I'm not sure. Been too long away from drag racing but I know I had one on my 70 Cutlass that ran mid to low 12's. If I remember right it has to be within six inches of the forward u-joint also.
