1970 Cutlass rear end

After reading numerous threads I still can't find an answer. I have a type O non posi with 2.xx in my 70 cutlass. I would like to put Posi with 3.42 or 3.55 gears.
On Jegs they have listed Eaton 19674-010 for this year.

http://www.jegs.com/i/Eaton/362/1967...rentProductId=

What exactly do I need and where I can find it to accomplish my goal? Please help.

I would touch base with Jim first. Here's a couple old threads where he's selling what you would need for your type O rear end.

Since Jim has been having posi carriers for the type O rear ends reproduced I'd have a high confidence level in what he's offering for sale. He should also be able to answer any questions you have about his products and what you would need to have it installed in your rear end.

Changing from 2.xx to 3.42 will require a different carrier. It is possible to reuse the one you have but there would have to be some "modifications". I would look for another carrier for your ring and pinion gears. Brian Trick (507Olds) is the resident Olds Rear end expert. There are others here too.

Either Jim or Brian are stand up guys and would treat you fair. I mentioned Jim because he was reproducing the carriers for type O rear ends. I would much rather go to an Olds guy who really knows these rear ends than use a mail order parts company. The big mail order company may sell the parts but not have the experience to help trouble shoot any problems that may arise during the install. My 2 cents

And unfortunately that unit fits the BOP 8.2 axle, NOT the Type O 8.5 axle. You won't find any parts in the Jegs or Summit catalogs for a Type O.

Check with MONZAZ or 507Olds. They will help you out.

Well, you'll still have to purchase a posi carrier to install in that rear end. Do you know what it's out of?

If that Craigslist find is a 1971-72 Cutlass rear end, or something else that can be confirmed as a corporate 8.5 inch it would be easier to find parts for. In my part of the country $200 for a non-posi rear end is priced on the high side. What part of California are you located in? Have you contacted both Jim (monzaz) and Brian (507OLDS)? I know they're on the other side of the country but in the past they both have reconditioned rear end assemblies to sell. I'd try to talk with them about what they have available if you can.

Picked it up today, it's out of a 72 cutlass supreme. Got it down to $150.
Damn that thing is heavy.

Jim I sent PM for the parts.
