I want to eventually make the swap from a original steering wheel in my 70 SX to a sports steering wheel. If I have the new steering wheel and hub (not worried about honking now), is it just as easy and unscrewing my current wheel and screwing in the 4 spoke?

If you have the wheel and hub, yes. You need a steering wheel puller to get the current one off, otherwise you risk damaging the collapsible steering column if you beta and hammer it to get the old wheel off.

The old wheel will have an alignment mark on the hub that match marks to one on the steering shaft. Not sure if the repro sport wheels have that. If not you may have to experiment a little to get everything installed right so steering wheel spokes align correctly

Go ahead and get the sport wheel horn pigtail and install it while you're about it. No point in doing the job over. Besides- you never know when you might need that horn.

Wow, I didn't realize they were only $20. I took off the cover of my current wheel to look around. Is it as easy as just using the puller on the big bolt (the white one in the picture), popping off the wheel and then putting the new one and then re-bolting?

Then for my own reference, what are the empty red and yellow sections for, and then what about the blue one too?

In answer to question #1, yes, #2 I never bothered to ask!

red and yellow are for the pullers stationary bolts. White for puller rotating bolt. Blue is for horn contact.

Several years ago I dismantled a steering column with the sport wheel and I took photos of the steps. I've reversed that order starting from where you'll have pulled the standard wheel. I'm not sure the alignment mark other members mentioned were correct on this column, but you can see the dash they're talking about. Check out the photos and let me know if you have any questions.

Once you remove your standard steering wheel it will look like this

Then you'll need to put your hub on and snug down the center nut

Next, use the fastening screws to attach the sport wheel

After that insert the horn contact spring, pin and black plastic ring

You can see the hole to put it in near the 3:00 O'clock position

Bolt on the horn contact with the "L" tab underneath it over the contact spring.

I successfully change my steering wheel! Now I just need to get the horn cap. Still an improvement. I've also typed up a tutorial with pictures. Beware, my car slightly electrocuted me while doing this lol. The story is all in the tutorial.
