Question on bench seats out of 69 cutlass s

I have a 69 cutlass s with original bench seats. I have seat covers for a 1972 cutlass s. They are PUI brand(parts unlimited inc.) and i got them fairly cheap new off ebay a long time ago. A few years ago, i took the car to a upholstery shop to have them put on. He told me a week later that they wouldn't work.

Is there any difference in the seats? Should they work? He mentioned making seat covers for them(at a price of 400.00 to 500.00 and he was only going to charge me 150 to put the 72 covers on), so i didn't know if he was just trying to get more money out of me.

Please let me know, if these will work, then i will find a different shop to put them on. thanks

Well, some bench seats have a fold down arm rest in the middle while others don't. Then the four door seats don't have split backs like 2 door cars. But if they're both for the same kind of seat the only difference between 1969 and 1972 should be the stitching pattern. Lay out the covers to see if they look the same, and you might even lay them on the seat to see if they look like the same size. Unless the ebay seller had the wrong year I'd think they should work. Well, the box says for a 1972, but who knows if it was possible it was boxed wrong. My family owns a carquest auto parts store and boxed wrong parts does happen sometimes. I remember he layed the covers over the seats while in the car and mentioned they looked too small and that he might be able to add some material to make them work. But, after leaving the car, he told me he couldn't. I am not sure if they were too small or not. But, i assume the frame work and thickness of cushions should be the same for 69 to 72?

The 1968-1972 bench seat frames are the same for the same type of seat (ie, a seat with an arm rest is different from one without, a 2dr seat is different from a 4dr).
