I have a friend that has an extra 71 hood. Looks something close to this:



My 70 SX currently just has the plane smooth hood so I thought this would make it a lot better without spending the ton more getting a ram air hood.

Can the 71 hood fit a 70? Can the 70 hood "tooth" just screw onto the 71 hood?

Negative.......The core support and all associated grille/bumper/headlight trim would require changeover to 71/72 motif. Keep looking for a '70 and a nice spare tooth is always a major bonus seeings how they are usually pretty hammered after 40 plus years......nothing lasts!!!! This situation is how I acquired my '70 ram air, the previous owner swore that the earlier hood would work on his '71. Even while I was broke and going to school twelve years ago, I happily gave him the $400 he was asking, and then took him to a sit down lunch with drinks. For my good nature he hauled the hood to my house, ah yes good times!! good times indeed!!! Best of luck in your search!!!

The simple answer is that the 71-72 grilles extend up into the leading edge of the hood 70 grilles do not, so the leading edge of the hood is different.
