Tires for a '72 Cutlass

I think the BF Goodrich Eagle STs on the car are from '82. Probably time for new tires. BF Goodrich Radial T/A the way to go or is there another recommendation with white lettering? Any rubbing with 245/60R15?

Radial T/A's always look good and would be my first choice. I have 215/70 in the front, and 245/60 in the rear with no issues. Not sure about bigger tires on the front, maybe someone else will chime in.

Cooper also makes a nice white letter tire.

Eagle ST tires were made by the people with the blimp, not BFG.

In any case, I've run 255/60-15 BFGs on all four corners of my 69 H/O on the stock SS II wheels with only minor rubbing on the front, and then only when you hit a bump with the front wheels turned hard (like entering a driveway).

I have 255/60/15 on the front, and 275/60/15 on the rear... .and it's lowered. No rubbing.

Same size tires here. Stock height no rubbing. When I had 1" lowering springs in the front it would rub with the wheels cranked on a small dip in say a driveway.

Good choice - my '71 Cutlass Supreme had SSIII 15x7 with BF Goodrich Radial T/As 245/60R-15s all around. Rubbed just a touch at full crank on the 1 3/8" non-stock front sway bar. Enjoy 'em - great tires great look great ride!

BF Goodrich Radial TAs are the way to go on a Cutlass. White letter out of course.

Does anyone have the 14x7 wheels? And if you do, what size tire are you using? Best I can figure is a 225/70r14. I want to put them on my 72 Cutlass Supreme.

You are right, they look the best on those size wheels. That's the equivalent of what GM put on the cars when new. (G70-14)

Ditto. I have BFG225/70-14's on SSII"s with white letters on outside. My car looks exactly like Motorheads except for the rims and door guard trim on the sides. You probably don't want anything smaller, as it will not look right, and will throw off your speedometer a bit.(been there, done that)

Same as what I'm running on all 4 corners - SSIII's. The minor difference in tire size does throw out the speedo a bit though. I went blackwall out though. They're Kelly Chargers. Maybe next time I'll go BFG and put the white letters out. For now I like this look because it's all in sync with the black/silver theme.

I am doing MT's this time around myself. I think these will look sick on the poverty wheels with dog dish caps.

I ordered some BF Goodrich tires this week and have been working on cleaning up the wheels. Using a paint stripper and then a sand blaster to get any rust off of them. Next step will be primer and paint. Anyone have advice or tips on this process?

I'm running old style Bias ply on both of My 69 olds. Check them out in my aviator. Nothing looks as good on Crager SS Wheels. Picked them up from Summit cheaper than going to cooker even though they came from cooker. The drive just fine.

I've got Cooper Cobra's on my 72 Cutlass S. These are a nice white letter alternative to the BF Goodrich tires. I liked them so much I put a set on our 69 Camaro as well
