Tach install, looks a little different but I like it

Figured I should put a tach in, I don't really like them on the dash, and I don't have a clock, soooo, here's what I came up with

I have a Sun Super Tach II in the same place (looks very similar to RetroRanger's).
Stuffed it in there back in the early 80s.

That Sunpro tach fits like it is nearly stock, I have it too.

Not to threadjack but to all the people who have mounted their tach this way......what actually holds it in the hole? Is any modification necessary? I hope to use a Autometer 3711 (recalling number from memory)

I just used the rubber insulated clamp that goes around the tach that came with it, put the tach in the hole and placed the clamp on the back side and tightened it up, I did place a thin piece of rubber around the tach so it wouldn't wreck the gauge panel if the tach vibrated a bit going down the road

The Sun Super Tach is just the right size to slip into the hole in the face plate. A couple wraps of electrical tape and it becomes a snug press fit into the hole (see Don71's picture above).

If you want an inset look like RetroRanger's, then you will need to come up with a method of mounting it behind the face plate, where the clock would mount. I'll let him describe that method as he has done it and so far I have only read about it.
