Rear coil springs

I have done the searches on the forums, read post of others and that is how I came to these 3 rear coil springs but I still have questions about them, so I figured I will post and ask. What I want to do is raise my rear about a 1 inch maybe 2. It is a 1969 cutlass with a 1970 442 rear end.

I was looking at the Moog CC507 which are for the vista cruiser. Some say it will raise it an inch but the question I have is what shocks do I get? Do I go with shocks for my car or do I have to get the shocks for the vista cruiser? I am asking because I am worried about the mounting brackets not lining up.

I also found the moog 5409 which are for a 442 and I have read that some say this also raised the rear about an inch. What I don’t understand is why would the 442 ones raise it an inch but the stock cutlass S won’t what is different about them? What shocks do I use 442 or cutlass s?

Last I also call Eaton’s and got a price for 1 inch lift springs from them and I was wondering if it would be easier and more of guarantee that I get the inch I am looking for. Even thou they’re way more money than the others.

I live in New York City where the roads have nothing but pot hole everywhere so I am also looking for the best shocks to get, any ideas?

Thank You

The info I have shows the installed height for the 5409 is 1" less than the springs used in the regular Cutlass lineup. The only way it makes sense to me that those folks saw an inch increase is that their original springs were worn and the rear was sagging a lot.

There are a lot of different springs for specific applications, such as AC or no AC, Heavy Duty or regular, engine size, etc. You should find a catalog listing and see all the different choices available. Below is some information I have on springs, but there is a whole lot more than this.

Here's a sample of front spring specs from the Moog catalog; rears would be similar:

> 5390 small block - no AC
> wire diameter = 0.650"
> load height = 11.000"
> load = 1952 pounds
> rate per inch = 336 pounds

The shock attaching points are different on a Vista than a Cutlass. Different car-different shock. So the shocks are not interchangeable.
