Need Info on 68 Cutlass Convertible

I am considering a 68 Cutlass convertible and am wondering what are the major concern/problem areas of this model. Car is partially restored so, in other words, if I go look at it what are the areas I should concentrate on? Drive train is not original so I'm not overlly concerned with that. Mostly need input having to do with chassis, body, and frame issues (ie., weak points, parts impossible to find, etc.). Any and all information is greatly appreciated!!

There is alot of good info on our website. Stick around and you will pick up alot of good advice. I don't know much about A bodies; however, I've heard that reproduction fenders, hoods, bumpers etc. don't fit very well. You are better off finding a parts car if you need these parts.

As with all converts make sure box frame is not rotted. Usually a problem on driver's side near front wheel and back. Also floor pans tend to go quicker as sometimes drips of water enter at side sealing strips. Other than that not much different than other a bodies.

When you say "box frame" you're referring to the frame itself correct?

Yes the frame is boxed on converts which holds dirt water salt etc and causes rot.

Can anyone think of a legitimate reason why a 68 Cutlass convertible which should have a VIN of 336678 would have a VIN of 335578?

A 335678 would be a legit 6-cyl convert VIN, not that I've ever seen one...

Correct on the 6 cyl vin. I've seen one. It's in my garage.
According to my "Std. cat. of American cars" something like 400 were made.
Nothing to fear though. A 455 fits just fine.

The quarter panel long upper moldings are hard to find if missing. Henry
