LED headlights

Has anyone converted their headlights to LED's? I find the low beams to be very dim. Forces me to drive with the high beams on most of the time when driving at night.

That doesn't sound right what did you use for a conversion? An LED bulb or a complete replacement assembly? Links

I think he means the sock headlights are dim and he wants to upgrade to LED. I've been considering the same.

A lot of the cheaper (less than $200.00) LED headlights do not meet DOT specs bacause they have crap optics.

Look for products that meet DOT requirements and you’ll save on-coming traffic some grief.

It may not be that your stock headlights are dim, they may be out of adjustment.

I haven’t done it to my 72 yet, but I’ve read adding the relay to the switch circuit makes a huge difference.

Have you checked voltage at the socket?

Ok that makes sense, I have the halogen replacements in my 72 and frequently drive late at night. With proper aim I haven't found the headlight output to be lacking significantly. On low it's good, on hi beam it's excellent.

If you don't have the halogen replacements, get those and like Joe said check your voltage at the connector, you should see close to charging voltage there, if not harness r and r or a relay will add voltage and light output at your headlights

Thanks everyone. I've adjusted the headlights as best as I can. I did notice that the high beams are halogen but not the low beams. Low beams are GE 4000's. Perhaps going to a halogen would help? I notice Rockauto has the Wagoner H5006 halogens. Maybe I'll try switching to those and see if it helps. I'll check the voltage also.

Good to know about DOT requirements. Looking at LED replacements they vary from around $30 to over $500. Guess you get what you pay for.

\head lights

Be sure that the lenses have the same look as the originals, or you may regret the changeout. There are many suppliers who have original looking headlights with Halogen or LED bulbs.
