LED Headlights

I picked up these for my headlight conversion on the Delta:

http://www.carid.com/universal-led-l...s-3659407.html And I also picked up the H7 for the high beams. $17.95 a bulb

Use 5 watts and the H7 use 10 watts. I still picked up "H4 heavy duty wiring harness" and a pair for the H7 on NewEgg.com for a total of $21.90 shipped to my door.

It's not a conversion harness, but I can do that myself fairly easy and not have to hack up my factory wiring.

I'll give an update when it happens

I've seen similar bulbs that were clearly not bright enough.

Please do let us know how these work!

I am interested in knowing how they work also. I just installed an LED bulb in my 6 cell Maglite that is 1000 lumens. it is incredible how bright it is but haven't seen anything like it for cars yet. I have been interested in LED technology for a long time but just now starting to play with it.

I did the swap and I was very disappointed

The two pics on the bottom tell the story:

First one is the LED bulb on the pass side and the regular factroy style headlight on the driver's side. The other pic is the high beam H1 bulb and the LED H4 bulb which is supposed to be brighter than the H1.

In the process of returning the LED bulbs for a refund. I will have before and after night pics of the regular bulbs and factory headlights to compare. Don't have a night shot of the new bulbs yet.

I will also write up a quick "How-to" on how to use OE 55w H4 bulbs on a 35w system. Still needs beta testing before I decide if it's safe for my wiring. If not, there are 35w H4 bulbs out there. You just have to buy them online

I didn't drive the car at all with these bulbs in. I sat behind the wheel at it looked like my pass side headlight was completely out

'Bout what I expected - most of this stuff is a total scamarino these days.

Maybe they'll be ready for prime time in about five years...

LED headlight assemblies for the flagship Lexus iirc run between $6000-8000 EACH!!! I would have been floored if a conversion bulb would have worked.

LED's are only good for side marker, tail and signal lights IMO. I would run HID, 5000K if you want brighter.

+1 no idea why you would try to run a LED as your main light source, just get HIDS like me

I don't care for HID's.

Had them in the Alero, bright, yes, but not worth the issues

The LED technology is already here to do headlights and do it well, but expect a few hundred bucks though.
When I worked at TI, I designed up an evaluation board that drove five Osram Golden Dragon LEDs, about 1 watt through each. Anyone can buy 'em, too!
https://estore.ti.com/TPS61500EVM-36...ule-P1502.aspx
With some narrow flood lenses ever the LEDs, the board was just as bright as a high beam car headlight, or possibly brighter, and would run off 4 AA batteries or 12VDC. The wholesale cost on the LEDs alone was 30 bucks, so high brightness is not cheap. Add in PCB cost, driver IC, heatsink, and other parts and it is an easy $200 each bulb. Markup on stuff like this is super high, too.
Eventually the price will decrease but until then, halogen replacements work great.
