I did a pretty thorough search about LED headlights on here. Most threads are at least a few years old and mostly discuss interior or brake/turn signal lights.

What about headlights, they have seemingly come a long way. Are there direct swaps, do you need to change the harness. Anyone do this lately?

My $0.02 is look carefully and be sure what your expectations are. Most of these 575 "drop-ins" do not come close to meeting DOT requirements.

I they are less than $250.00 a pair bank on it. This means questionable optics best case, pissed off on-coming traffic and poor visibility for you worst case.

I got my 7" projectors from Dapper Lighting for my 55 88 custom. Super nice quality (actual glass lens), and they claim that they meet DOT test requirements.

If you are looking at generic LED "bulbs" for modern composite headlights, I'd be cautious as they get super hot and will likely also not match the the distribution of the bulb it is replacing. Unless the manufacturer claims and has proof.

 

Most people i have seen that switched to LED were extrmely disappointed with the light output.

i put HID kits in all my cars and love them.

 

Yeah, LED probably not ready for the headlight retrofit party yet. I actually just went with the better halogen in the projector headlights I got for the 55.

I got them mostly because they look so cool.

If the halogens are not bright enough, I will upgrade to to the HID.

Don't really care for the halos, but that's just me.

Lots of people do like that look.

Get what you like. Just make sure they are actually good head lights.

Have you checked your voltage at the headlights? Google adding a relay to your headlight circuit. Many times you're just not getting 12v to the lights.

I have halogens in my W30 and aren't very bright. Pretty sure it's the voltage thing. Will mess with that someday myself.

 

Very nice setup I went with the same setup on my Cutlass and like you my understaing is that they are DOT approved. I ordered mine back in June with the preorder from Dapper last June. Mine are HID low and Halogen high. You could have ordered without the halo's if you didn't want them. I actually have the switchback halo's in mine.

 

That looks like what I am looking for with my headlight upgrades. I have heard good things about Dapper Lighting.
