engine colors

engine colors

hi all My 70 convertable has been sitting and lonely for a few months. Am back at it now. Can anyone give me the colors for a 1969 400 motor. block & valve covers? Is this a decent motor? it came in the car.

It's a bronze color. Fusick it reputed to have a good color match for that color.
The 68-69 400 is not the best engine Olds ever made. It's way under square and from what I've read about it there are some issues with it.
I personally have no experience with them so I hope someone else will chime in on this.

According to Fusick that engine was a Bronze color.

Keep it under 5000 rpm you won't have any issues. It is not a high rpm mill like the earlier 400's which were capable of up to 7000 rpm. Still a strong dependable engine, at least that has been my experience.

You might offer it up for sale and replace it with a 455. The 1968-69 400's are less common and someone may want it for a 442 project. The 455 was built for several years and if you decide to build an engine it would be a better platform. If you were close to my location I'd gladly trade you a 455 for your 400 plus some extras to make it worth your while. John

That is the one Oldsmobile color POR 15 makes in their high heat engine enamel. I suggest purchasing their products. I have used it before and am very pleased.
