Cutlass package
Cutlass package
Anyone know what types of items came with the cutlass package. I know the trim level was different from that of the F-85, but I would like to understand the differences. Thanks.
That's a good question, and unfortunately the answer is somewhat complex. First, I assume you're asking about the 1964 model year, because the standard equipment and trim for each model varied by year. In 1964, one key distinction was the base engine. The Cutlass got the 260 HP 330 4bbl as the base motor, while other F-85s got the 210 HP 330 2bbl. The V6 was the base motor on the aptly-named V6 Sport Coupe. The V6 and Cutlass 4bbl motor were optional on the other F-85s. Interestingly, Olds appears to have increased the HP ratings as the model year went on, because the station wagon brochure shows 230 HP for the 2bbl motor and 290 HP for the 4bbl motor.
Upholstery patterns varied among the various F-85 versions that year, as there was as standard, a deluxe, a sport coupe, and the F-85 Cutlass. Standard tire sizes varied as well (6.50 x 14 for the V6 cars vs. 7.00 x 14 for the V8 cars). The base F-85 got a rubber floor covering and the base steering wheel. The Cutlass and F-85 Deluxe models got carpeting, "safety padded dash", deluxe steering wheel, and "deluxe interior appointments" (whatever that means). Only the Cutlass models and the F-85 V6 Sport Coupe came standard with bucket seats. Apparently these were not available on other models that year, since the center console was only available on the Cutlass and V6 Sport Coupe models. Here are links to some 1964 dealer brochures. Keep in mind that these were printed before the 442 option was released.
