Package Tray install on a 67 Cutlass/442

I am attempting to replace the package tray and Jute padding on my car. I got the new ones from Y1. I figured something might be wrong when the jute padding wasn't long enough to reach the sail panel boards. The pad I pulled out was tucked underneath. After figuring out that both the padding and tray will not fit under the lip at the rear window, maybe their supposed to, I noticed that the package tray also did not reach under the sail panel boards, it follow the bottom contour. If left like this you could see the void behind the sail panel boards. I compare the new tray with the old and was 2 inches shorter at the back end, probably they cut the sides "in" too much but it matches the contour of the sail panel boards just doesn't go beyond them.
Besides the obvious that they made both parts wrong, has anyone run into this issue before? Thanks.

I'll just have to send them my pics. Guess I'm not getting my car back together this weekend.

Well it doesn't look like Year One, Inc. or their supplier Parts Unlimited, Inc., will be sending a replacement even though it's obvious the part isn't correct as shown in the picture. They won't get anymore of my business.

Typical aftermarket parts. You might try to make one using the original as a pattern

I don't know if the 67 package tray is the same as the 66 (I think it is) but here are some pictures of a package tray I just received for my 66 through legendary. I test fitted mine and it seems to fit under the sail panels and rear window lip. Mine does seem to be cut differently than yours. I did not order mine with the jute padding, I cut my own. Sorry about the quality of the pictures. - Mark

Mark,

The panel you got looks like it's cut the way mine should be. Year One offers one for early 66 and one for late 66 / all 67. Maybe they sent the early 66. I'll have to bring that up to them.
I have to do a complete interior on my other car, I'll have to shop at Legendary maybe from now on. Thanks for the reply.

I was thinking about ordering one of those also, as the paint is peeling in places on her original one, but now I wonder if it would fit?? Hmmmmm...

Hey Dan,
I did have to specify that mine was a late year 66 with the wider sail panels.

I bet I got the early version, anyway the support guy I was dealing with is on vacation now, go figure. Since the interior is apart, time to rebuild the carb.

cutlassgal,

I'm sure you'll have no problem getting one that fits. You'll have to let us know.

Got my money back from Y1 which was nice and got to keep the package tray. The one they sent was packaged wrong I bet. Ordered one from Legendary, decided I didn't need the speaker cut outs. I got it today and it's the correct size! But... no meshing. Just plain black cardboard. Didn't think to read the description where there is no mention of meshing. This will be hard to explain to my wife that I need a third one. Doesn't look correct for my car anyway with no meshing.

Well I ended up putting the mesh style in even if the ends don't fit properly. Rather have 99% correct look than 100% different look. I'll just say the installation wasn't fun. The vinyl strip really isn't wide enough to to wrap around the foam and get glued. I ended up using duct tape along with the glue to hold the edge in place. Luckily the tape is hidden when the rear seat is in, the only color tape I had was hot pink. Oh well it worked.
