Complete A/C System cost? Heater?

Hi all,

I'm looking at buying an 86 Cutlass, but it doesn't have A/C. How much would you say a complete a/c system would cost?

Also, will the heating system work without an A/C system installed?

Cheers

The heat, vent and defrost will work without the AC system if the controls haven't been butchered. Do you want a factory style AC, or are you considering an aftermarket system like Vintage Air?

I'm looking for whatever works decently well. I don't need to be able to hang meat in it, but I want to be plenty comfortable.

IF Vintage Air even makes a system to retrofit an '86, probably comparable in price to their early-car systems - $1300 or so not including install. Classic Auto Air is another potential source for OEM and aftermarket AC systems or parts but likely just as pricey.

Did the 86 never have AC from the factory? If you can see the condensor and evaporator someone just removed the AC compressor and hoses.
