is there anyone that sells a cowl hood or ram air style for a 68 cutlass coupe?

I really like the 70's 442 ram air hood. will a 1969 or 1970 hood fit on a 1968?

that's what I figured. How rediculous is that. Is there a good demand for a cowl or scooped hood for the 68?

For some reason the picture of the 69 that I used at first didn't come out, so I've added a different one. As for a scooped hood, I don't think it would look very good with the 68 grille. Note how the scoops on the 70-72 hoods line up with the grilles.

I have always though that the center bulge in the 68 hood would make a nice cowl induction hood, however.

Another option: Back in the 1970s I added an L-88 scoop to the flat 1968 hood and ran it on my 68 442. I'll see if I can dig up photos. I did have the usual problems of cracking due to the expansion differences between the metal hood and fiberglass scoop, however. Adhesives have gotten a lot better in the last 35 years.

I know this is an old thread, but....


Glasstek can make one without the hood pin slots. But Show Cars in Canada is cheaper and has the slots. Both would be a custom hood.

The question is, why? The whole point of the 1970-72 hoods is that the scoops line up with the grills for aesthetic reasons. Here, they don't and they look like an afterthought.

The original question was "where?" Simply answering that. I will leave the why alone. I was looking for a steel 442 hood and ran across the thread and the pic during the search. I personally agree with you.

I will continue my apparently unproductive search for steel.

Funny, I always felt the same way, even to the point of scheming how the back of that cowl could be opened up to allow cool air in. But that was long ago before I even knew about how the W30/W31/HOs used the under-bumper scoops and dual snorkel air cleaner. I hadn't given that scheme a thought until I read Joe's 8-y/o post here.

I agree, that '70-'72 scooped hood on that '68 looks whacked. I don't even like them on '69s, mainly because I know that the factory never did something stupid like that.

THANK YOU! I thought I was the only one who felt that way.

FYI, on my first 68 442 that I built back in high school, I used a flat hood and added an L-88 Corvette scoop. It fits very nicely with the shape of the grill and leading edge of the hood. I did cut a hole under the scoop to make it into a cowl induction system. Unfortunately, I can't find a photo of that car right now.

I know this is a dead thread, but I emailed Show Cars to see how much they charge for a W30 style hood for a '68 as that's what I have planned for my pro-touring build in my sig. Will update so other people who find this from Google can get an answer too.
