column to floor converion pt2

if i do convert the column shift on my automatic '72 to floor shift, would the b&m megashifter work for that application or would extra work have to be done. i was also wondering if the shift improver kits work well. and finally is the transmission in a 72 350 2bbl 4 door a th350, again thanks for any advice i can get.

i dont understand what you are trying to ask i guess, but ALOT of extra work will need to be done to switch from column to floor. you can also use any hi performance shifter you want in your car but it isnt going to mate up with anything oldsmobile made if thats what you mean by extra work? You can just screw your megashifter to the floorboard, drill a hole for the cable, and route the cable to your trans (which MAY and probably will need an adaptor for the cable) and then pop the cheesy plastic cover over it and be out on the road, but if you are trying to mate a 3rd party shifter to a factory floor console or something, good luck on that.
a few things required to swap to floor shift with factory parts (taylor this to suit your application with hi performance aftermarket)

1 - steering column needs to be swapped out with a floorshift steering column, or the ring with the shift lever needs swapped out to floor shift column ring. At the very least you need to remove the shift lever by the pin

2 - speedometer needs to change to floorshift speedometer - or at the very least, youll need to remove the indicator needle assembly, and swap the face plate out to remove the PRND21 or PRNDSL markings

3 - factory floor console brackets need welded to the floorboard

4. factory shifter holes need located and drilled and factory shifter mounted

5. factory console fit to the shifter

6. cable attached to the transmission

hi performance floor shifters just bolt to the floor and a cheap plastic cover goes over the whole installation when youre done, but they will work with any vehicle - you may need to get a bracket that attaches to the transmission though?

i was also wondering if the shift improver kits work well.
If they are installed correctly to a healthy transmission, yes they do. They make the shift MUCH harder over the factory soft mushy shift. Shift kits are great for a performance vehicle, but i have found every girl i ever dated hated how hard they shifted - just my experiance with them

and finally is the transmission in a 72 350 2bbl 4 door a th350, again thanks for any advice i can get.
you can probably bet on it if you have 3 gears. If its 2 gears it is a jetaway transmission (not sure if they were still using jetaways in 72 or not)
i HIGHLY doubt they put anything but a th350 in your car though.
the easiest way to tell is to jack the car up and crawl underneath it and look at the shape of the transmission pan - that is the easiest way to find out

Most of your aftermarket floor shifters will come with brackets to mount it to the trans if you buy the "kit". there are also different ways to wrap the cable around the trans depending on which trans you have.

The above list looks on point. good diagram for the trans pans too.

one thing to add to the list is the neutral safety switch (NSS) which means you need to add the appropriate wiring harness for the NSS too. The NSS is currently attached to your column shift column - going to floor shift will require a NSS for your particular shifter, and the wiring from it to your existing harness.
