1968 Cutlass S Holiday Coupe - "Millie" pt2

This started, as many do, a simple cleanup/maintenance paint job. I was not planing to redo so much at this time. The "while I'm at it" or "might as well do" list got bigger and bigger.

First day, seats, carpet, door and side panels out.

Happy to see very little rust under the vinyl. Found a new colour too. A very pale metallic aqua blue.

Under the door panels you can see her factory colour. Scarlet red.

Metal Shop

Previous owner had no trunk seal. The filler panels, lower wheel houses, and trunk floor all had pin holes in various places. I choose to rip it all out and put in all new metal.

What's missing here.....

We cut out all the smaller holes and replaced the weakened areas with new metal.

This was a nasty spot. The rocker was filled with household spray foam and skinned with bondo. Even the cap from the spray can was inside here.

Test fiting the trunk pan kit. Lower wheelhouse patches in.

New trunk braces and lots of spot welds.

Roughed-in cancer patch.

New filler panel, trunk pan and quarter repaired, sealed and undercoated.

Removeing rust and filling in the vinyl trim holes that are not being used.

Repair lower door edges. In hindsight it would have been easier and quicker to get the panels.

Finished patching, sealing and filling.

Sealed up, home from metal shop. Waiting to be stripped completly and to go to paint.

I only got stopped by the police once driving her like this. He was upset that my side turn
indicators were not there. I explained that they are only marker light and do not flash. He had no concerns after that.

Stripped and waiting for the tow truck ride to paint.

Coming up next... Paint! I took for ever but I am happy with it.

Adam
