Colour of taillights conv. 63

Hallo Olds enthusiats
Our olds got red taillights.I mean both on each side are red.The bigger lense on top and the smaller reversing light. On a several pics from other olds, same model, the reversing light is white.
Which combination is original? A red backup light seems not relly practical.
Thank you all for getting an answer,Claudia&Martin

Hi convertible 63 just wondering what model car you have?
Is it a F-85 or 88 or starfire or the 98 because they all have tail lights, you just can't see them all from the drivers seat.

Sounds more like a Cutlass/F85 as they had the tail and backup lights in the same bezel. The full size cars had them in the bumper (88/Starfire) or rear valance below the trunk lid (Ninety Eight).

Just curious where this car is located. I'm guessing Europe by the orthography, so it may have been an export car thing.

Question- do the lower red lamps light when the car is in reverse?

It sounds strange, but all taillenses are sprayed red.I mean ALL 4 of them.Even the two which have to be red.The work is quiet well done and not noticeable on the first look. The reverselights are white under the paintwork I startet to remove the paint
They might have been sprayd to get a ?????? look!?!
Oldskeeper@ The Olds is a Cutlass F-85 Convertible Deluxe with a 215 cui engine and 185 hp.
rocketraider@ The lower lamps do not light when the car is in reverse. We`ve tried all switches to make them work without any result.
Thanks for your help,Claudia&Martin
PS.Tomorrow we will start into a "long" 3 day weekend with our 2 Triumph Spitfire 1500 to see about another 100 Spits on a meeting.
On the 14.06. we are registered on a classic car and parts fair to show the F-85 and our 1967 Mustang in a huge area just for classic US cars.We hope to get the olds ready to go till that date

not sure about Olds, but I know as late as 65 Ford reverse lights were a $9 option (that Dad said we could live without)

the center round red would have been white if reverse lights were ordered

So since you discovered that the lenses have been painted it sounds like you need to do two things if you want working/effective backup lights. First, remove the paint, which may be difficult without marring the plastic lens material. Second, find out if your car has a switch that may not be working and repair it; or wire a backup switch on your shift linkage or a manual switch and mount it somewhere on the dash. It may be difficult but do-able.
