Hi - I have a 72 Cutlass vert and need some assistance on the bench seat. When I got the car, the person before me replaced the floor pans. I do not see any raised portion to mount the seats on. Was there ever a raised portion from the factory?
Like I stated earlier, I have bench seats and need to know how to mount them to the floor. Thanks for the help.
Bench seat just bolts to the floor pan directly. The factory holes go through the floor pan supports & have nuts welded to the bottom of them. If they did not drill out the holes when they installed the floors that may be why its hard to ID where they go.
Crawl under the car and look at the floor pan braces right where they meet the frame, you may have to use your fingers to feel where the nuts are. they were just little square nuts welded onto the brace.
Once you find them, use a hammer & punch to dimple the floor from the bottom through the center of the nuts, then you can drill out the floor pan in the exact spot so you'll be able to hit the nuts.
Then here's the underside of a 1968 Cutlass floorpan. This car had bucket seats, but the outside seat rail should be in the same place as the bench seat rail. If the nuts aren't already welded to the floor pan I would suggest you get the front bolt in the right location, then set the adjustment rail on the floorpan and drill the back holes with the rail in place. Even though this is a 1968, the mounts would have the nuts welded to the underside and going through the floorpan plus pan support brace.

You are a God send lol. Thanks man. I almost bout some floor tracks erroneously. This means that the bench seat does not move back and forth...I need to get buckets.
The seat will move forward and back, so if you wanted to stay with the bench you could. The bottom of the rail is bolted to the floor pan. But the top of the rail bolts to the seat and will allow it to slide forward and back.
