Gregory, it is desirable, as it is a factory 455 car, but you should post your own thread as this one is 7 years old.

I moved your post to its own thread instead of resurrecting one from 7 years ago.

Here's a breakdown of the trim tag.

ST 72 = style/model year = 1972

34257: 3 = GM division = Oldsmobile; 42 = model series = Cutlass Supreme; 57 = body type = hardtop coupe

R = assembly plant = Arlington TX

01685 BDY = Fisher Body number, which has no relationship to the VIN

TR 970 = interior color = black

A65 = option code for the notch back bench front seat

56 B PNT = lower body color (56) and upper body vinyl top color (B) = sunfire yellow body color with a black vinyl top

08E = time build code = August (08), fifth week of that month (E), 1971

Here's the breakdown of the front end of your VIN of 3J57U2R------.

3 = GM division = Oldsmobile

J57 = Cutlass Supreme hardtop coupe

U = engine code = 455cid 4bbl carburetor. I believe it would also stand for the L75 set-up with dual exhaust and the THM 400 automatic transmission but that should be verified by someone else!

2 = model year = 1972

R = assembly plant = Arlington TX

------ = assembly plant sequence number

I don't know if this car is particularly rare or not - those numbers are simply not available. But, like was previously mentioned, it is certainly desirable!
