Hello All , I have just got a 72 Cutlass Supreme With a Bad Rear End { Broken Carrier} . I am Having Problems Figuring out What rear End is under my Car, What I know is that the Rear Cover Has Ten Bolts Also The Rear cover has A small Cresent Scallop on either side at the Tube Location, Axle Shaft are 28 spline, from what Ive been reading the car should have a 10 bolt 8.5 axle under it but the rear Cover Suggests 10 bolt 8.2 im totally stumped ....Any and all help would be great , Thanks in Advanced

 

From the factory it was an 8.5" 10 bolt with bolt in axles.

 

The carrier will have a casting number on it, which should help to positively identify it as an 8.5 or an 8.2.
