1965 f85 Club Coupe
1965 f85 Club Coupe
here is a link to see a local Craig's list posting. I think his numbers are off some, wondering where he gets 1 of 1087. I think the Club Coupe originally came with a V6 so definitely the egine/transmission is a transplant. If anyone is interested I guess I could take a look, it is right here in town.
Well, my reference shows the club coupe at 2655 but that was with the V6 engine so add some weight for the 455/400 combo. It also states that 5,289 were built, I am not sure how the seller came up with the 1087 number. At any rate, I am sure it is quite fast.
Even with a frame off, I don't how you get to $60,000.00 unless you do nothing but watch and have someplace like Coddington's shop in CA do all of the work from start to finish. $25,000.00 sounds bad enough to me. According to the paperwork I have on my 1957 it had a frame off restore in 1987. The underside is like brand new. The car set in a collection until the mid 90's and let it set ouside oucovered until I bought in ion 1999 hence the rust were rain ran down inside the doors and rusted the lower door panels. How the front of the Hood rusted I guess I will never know. I bought it for $8,000.00. The rust will be gone in December fixture with American made steel and repainted. If I look on the sites that advertise selling collector cars they state that I should sell the car for 75K to 80K. I don't believe it. I still think I have a real $25K to $30K car. I still make good money if I sell at either price. I think I will keep it and well it to one of my kids.

i would have hard time paying that much for an unrestored original let alone a car built to suit that particular owners needs.
Sorry, I want to drive a car like that and I'm not keen on the manual valve body for street use.
It is pretty though and I love the paint color.

Production numbers aside, I find it amusing when someone advertises a "very rare car" then has modified it so that the items that make it rare are gone. And at the risk of sounding like a broken record (does anyone even know what that means anymore?), rare does not always equal valuable. Again, these cars are rare because they were not popular when they were new. I guess if all the desirable 442s are gone, one must come up with some reason for jacking the price of the car one has...
I think the phrase "like a broken record" referred to a statement that was repetitive. An old record that was scratched up would skip and repeat part of the recording over and over and over...
Back on original topic, I think you missed that it is a clone. The 1087 is the number of '65 Club Coupes that came with the 442 option. But since it is a clone, it is *not* 1 of 1087. Stupid misleading advertising. There were seperate V8 and V6 Club Coupe models, and the 442 option was only available on the V8 model.
W, thanks for that. My reference does not indicate numbers for base models ordered with the 442 option. Where is that data. Not that I own a 442 or ever will (I might some day, who knows?), but it is good just to know.
