Well that was no fun...

Just gave away our dog to a new home. She is a great dog and I'm really hoping that the guy and his family are able to take care of her properly. They have chickens and a cat, so normally that means they are good animal people.

For those who don't know, our kids asked us for years to get a dog but they both have dog allergies. We waited until my son was old enough to say on his own that he wanted to get the allergy shots and then we did that for a full year (both son and daughter) before getting the dog. We decided on a "hypoallergenic" breed just to be extra cautious.

My wife drove up to Pennsylvania to get her from the breeder. She is a purebred Samoyed. One of the coolest dogs ever. You just don't see many of them around. Came with a hefty price tag too of over $1500. But worth every penny.

Anyway, my daughter still had problems with being allergic to the dog, even after a few years of the sometimes bi-weekly shots. So with us moving to a new place, we figured now was the time vs going to our new place and having her allergens spread throughout the house.

We tried to do it the right way. Thing is you just sometimes don't know how it all will turn out. It was still worth the try and we will miss her very much.

Thanks for letting me vent. I'm a little nervous on how things will turn out for her at her new place. But our neighbor helped us by linking us up with his co-worker and he had been on the hunt for a family dog for 8 months and when they met tonight they just really got along well. She will do fine, I'm sure. I think. Maybe.

If they got chickens and a cat they are animal people. I think the dog will do very well with them. They have looked for a while for the right dog and yours is well behaved so it sounds like a win win.

Sounds like a good match. Dogs are good judges of people and if the dog liked them right off, and they liked her, it doesn't get much better than that.

It's always sad to leave a friend, even if the friend is the 4 legged kind. I'm sure you found a good home for her.

FWIW, I know your daughter must have been miserable being allergic to dogs. I'm allergic to cats and can't visit my sister and brother-in-law for more than an afternoon since they have a cat.

Thanks everyone for your good thoughts. It is definitely one of the tougher things to do in life. The kids are fine or at least they are pretending to be. We'll have lots more changes soon so that timing will help things move forward.

If they have chickens and a cat, the dog won't go hungry!

They might have a scared cat and dead chickens.
