A real "labour day" weekend

So I head up to the cottage ,after a stressful week in the office, for my restful Labour Day Weekend of fishing, sleeping, and reading....except when I get there, my wife tells me ..."there's a funny smell coming from the basement".No problem I think, someone just forgot to flush the toilet.Well,I mosey on down, and feel and hear a sickening "squealtsh" as I walk accross the subfloor toward the pump/septic room. By now the smell is pretty ripe, and I know this is NOT going to be a great Friday eve. 150 gallons of bailed sewage later,I'm ready to pull the effluent pump, when I hear my wife retching from the fumes, and I'm thinking..."just how much can a plumber charge to come out to my ISLAND cottage at 9:00 P.M. on a weekend and save me from any more of this restful holiday pleasure? [a phone call answered that question...$120.00/hr. from the time they leave their shop!!]"Well,we've got an outhouse on the property,so we'll manage 'til morning when I'll drive 30 miles to the nearest supplier and get all the gear I need to repair the system.Did that, boated back to the island and on starting to get things running, realized I was missing a fitting for the pump!!Back in the boat, off to the store, and another 1 1/2 hr. later back at it.Got it all together, took a MUCH needed shower, and thought..."these Holiday weekends are killing me!"Have any of you had such a fun-filled weekend?Share it with us. These are the ones you laugh about...15 years later!

Rained Saturday, Sunday, and up to a coule of hours ago rained. Gutter overflowing so onto the roof to clean our roof Typical labor Day weekend. My best vacations do not include any holiday, most of them I am having one kind of problem or another.

My daughter was married Friday afternoon so it was the culmination of two weeks of real stress! My son had come up from Oklahoma for the wedding so he, a friend of ours, and I went to a K.C. Royals game on Saturday. They lost but it was fun tailgating and smoking stogies! We spent Monday catching up on rest.

$120.00/hr. from the time they leave their shop!
That is outrageous!

That plumber must think he is a lawyer or dentist.

At least you got it fixed.

I went up to KCMO and spent time with the family. I will never make that trip again with my baby girl, two dogs, and my wife in the VW Beetle.

Thats to bad Derek: But on the bright side you did save money doing it yourself. So now you can take that and spend it at the Barrie Automotive Flea Market this weekend. I know thats what I would do if I were you.

Great point Bulldog!! I'm going on Friday at noon along with my mechanic,to pick outa few odds and ends for the red beast. The "saved" money actually got spent on a BBQ at noon,so I'll have to get more the old-fashioned way...steal it from my wife's purse!....See ya there?Derek

Well leave some stuff for me. I can't make it until Saturday morning.
I ordered the jaws of life to open my wife's purse.

That job stinks been there done that. Plumbers get paid a lot for good reason, I'm a carpenter, nobody cares if their door doesn't shut.
120 bucks an hour? Not a bad deal considering, are those Canadian or U.S. dollars?

Where is this cabin located? fishing good?, you need a faster boat.
I spent every year's vacation at Lake Nipissing as a youth, my family has been going there since you had to row the boats and drive up on dirt roads in a Model-T.
I can still remember where some of the mass quantities of slightly submerged rocks are, the bleach bottles don't mark them all.
I can't afford it now, the place we went was a fishing camp but some German guy bought it and put in a hot tub, now he calls it a resort and charges big bucks.

Wednesday I pulled my camper into camp ground across the road from Oreiley Raceway park and spent six days at the U.S. Nationals in Indianapolis with 50 of my friends....We have a block of 50 tickets in rows 1,2,3 and 4 at the starting line.... Got to see the biggest and the best drag race of the year.
