Good morning (barely) guys,

After a beautiful 55° day yesterday, the worm has turned and it's 34° right now at 1145. The temp is supposed to continue to drop throughout the day, with a low overnight tonight of 8°, a high of only 20° tomorrow, and a low tomorrow night of 5°. Just brutal for here!

No big plans, just hunkering down and trying to stay warm. Hope everyone has a great day!

My *** is "working" from home today. I figured, after I found out I need to work this weekend, and 36 days on the clock straight, it was time for sleeping in once. Did do my two meetings, so I guess I'm getting something done. Sleeting here now, we may do this work from home thing tomorrow, too.

Aloha

Beautiful day here. And a little warmish. Rain comes later this evening for the rest of the week I'm afraid.

So my Mom calls me at work, tells me her car has a flat tire. Luckily she's at home. I seem to remember a nail or something in one of the tires last time I was there. She'd already called AAA and they were going to be there in an hour. She wanted to know if they could put on the dummy spare. I said your car doesn't have one. Then she asked if they put air in it today could she take it to have it fixed tomorrow? I said, that will only be known to the AAA guy once he sees it. She wanted to know how to get it fixed. There's only one tire shop I know of near her, and it's where she took the car(the Saturn I have now) to get worked on. I don't like them, they do shoddy work. I said, you can take it there but tell them you want the tire dismounted and a radial patch put on, and then when remounted it needs to be spin balanced. This place is notorious for chalking the tire with an arrow and then dismounting the tire and taking all the weights off. So lining the tire up with the arrow, wherever it's pointing, is senseless. She was going to take it to the Chevy place. I'm afraid they will only put in a plug and charge her 200 bucks.

Norm when I had my first Corvair, which was also my first convertible, I had "The Folding Top Manual" and it said not to lower the top under 40*. I assumed it was because the backlight was that clear vinyl and would crack. Or maybe the whole top who knows. I'm guessing your car has a glass backlight, so maybe it wouldn't hurt. One time when I worked at the Chevy place after high school, I went on a dealer trade on the north side of the city. It was about 45 and sunny out, and I came home in a Monte Carlo SS with T tops. I took the tops off and drove home with the heater on. There was still snow on the ground! I was a hero for the rest of the day when I got back. Not my intention but hey it was cool.

Might pay a couple bills and take them to the post office. That would be a good ride for Tiger and me. Otherwise I'm staying home. I've been gone a lot lately and I need to hang out with Tiger.

Overtime the rest of the week and both days this weekend. I'll take it.

Peace.

Mike - I never put the top up &/or down when the temperature is below 50° - the top remains in the up position for the duration of the winter months. My understanding is vinyl or fabric soft tops shrink in cold weather. If the top is in the down position, if you then attempt to raise the top up while it's cold, there's a high chance of it ripping trying to put it up. Therefore, I leave the top up throughout the winter months. A "glass backlight". What is that? I have no dome light at all in the convertible - not sure what a backlight would be?

We had a one hour delay. It was actually 28°F this morning when I left the house, it was 39°F when we left the first tee box. It was ~ 45°F by the time we hit the 5th tee box. When we finished it was ~56°F. The wind was a paltry 3mph - which makes those temperatures excellent for playing 18. Remember, I walk the course - this is nearly ideal temperatures.

I'm playing tomorrow before the $HIT hits the fan with expected deep cold, rain & maybe ice late in the afternoon. The high around noon tomorrow is expected to be ~63°F with slight winds of 4mph - 5mph - perfect golf weather.

My round today: 39/42 - I am not worthy.

Norm- That's a nice round! 60's tomorrow in the morning sounds great! Golf in cooler temps is just not my cup of tea, even if I'm walking, too much arthritis in too many joints. I feel much better and play better when it's at least 60.

Chris - Alright, alright - if sitting around on your couch with a dog slobbering between your legs drinking a cup of tea is your way of managing your arthritis then so be it. Just kidding of course.
Some mornings I wake up in winter I wonder if I should be put in traction.

Norm, on more than 1 occasions I have put the top partially up in the sunshine, turned on the heater and warmed it up so it would close and lock

Trust me when I say, I still get plenty of exercise even in the winter, actually more than summer, because it becomes a 7-days a week workout schedule instead of 6-days. You're definitely right about the soreness and stiffness in the mornings, especially in the winter, it definitely sucks getting older. What was it you said before, getting old is not for sissies???

I agree, that has occurred to me, but I don't really want to take the time to put the top up & down just to drive to the club & back.

That's the first time I have heard the rear window called a "backlight". Now the footnotes I remember seeing for alternator applications "with or without Heated Backlight" makes sense. I had no idea what a backlight was until just now, so I presume a "heated backlight" is referring to a rear window defroster.

I'll be damned...that makes sense. If it were Britain, it would be called back windscreen light I suspect. Makes perfect sense it would be called a backlight now that you mention it and in particular as it would relate to with or without a Heated Backlight - but, why "backlight" - still rather peculiar. I guess just because "light" comes in through the back?

That's the problem with getting old. You wake up and every thing is stiff except what you want to be

Not much going on here. My contribution to the bleu cheese thread is "bleu cheese burger," seasoned with a little cayenne pepper, and topped with a slice of tomato, lettuce and mayo. Make sure that you have good ventilation when cooking, otherwise the cayenne will burn your eyes.

Backlight -- because it's in the back, and it lets light in (even at night... headlights behind you).

I'll keep the rest of my smartass remarks to myself today. 😁

Well, I got sum bad news. My housekeeper in the mountains for 15 years has the big C. She spent too much time looking after her sorry a$$ husband and not enough time looking after herself. I'm on a hunt to find a new one and I will guarantee I'll never find one as good

Good morning guys,

Weatherman was correct, it's only 9° at 0830, and there's been bright sunshine all morning. I checked and it's 16° in my hometown of Battle Creek, MI, now that ain't right! High of 20° today, even with full sunshine all day. Colder overnight tonight at 5°, but will start a warming trend tomorrow, with a projected high of 52° on Monday. The toys are due to be started and I'm thinking Monday will be the day for that. I won't be able to drive them around the neighborhood though like I did last time because there's salt all over the road from that last snowstorm. All I'll be able to do is run them in the driveway until they get up to operating temp for a few minutes.

No big plans for today, just trying to stay warm. Hope everyone has a great day!

James - That's sad, I'm sorry for her and her kids! Don't know the particulars, but pray she can beat it! It always hits close to home for me when I hear about someone who contracts a potentially deadly disease when they're younger. My Dad got the big C when he was only 55, and fought it for 4-years before passing. He retired from teaching when he first got it, but never really got to enjoy much of a retirement since he was sick more than well during those 4-years, although there were some good times.

Ya know, it took me a while to determine that the parts book listings meant Heated Backlight as they just had HBL. Had to figure out what that acronym stood for first, then still didn't know what it meant for the next 40 years until Mike's comment above.

Again, thank you Mike for providing that key piece of information.

Aloha

Wow I didn't know what a whirlwind of posts would stem from calling the back window a backlight. I didn't even think about it, that's just what I call it. Glad I could help out Kenneth. Once I said windscreen instead of windshield and some maroon let loose with, you're not in England that's called a windshield get it right blah blah blah. I mean really. What if I called the turn signal a trafficator? Well I'm glad I was able to add to the day's discussion. And I missed it all!

Cold and rainy here. The weather person has backed off the gloom and doom wintery weather for the weekend, just temps in the 40s and rain. I hate rain but it's better than sleet. I'm moving to Ecudor.

Jamesbo that's too bad about your housekeeper. Hope she can keep on top of it.

Norm your car should have lights in the back seat armrests, and I believe the Supreme has standard the lights in the front footwells and the lights under the dash with the switch that can turn them on and off. I don't know if they have a fancy name, maybe I'll make one up.

Okay gonna relax a little before bed. One more. Peace.

Mike - I have all those courtesy lights. It's kind of a mute moot point right now, since I was indicating I didn't have a dome light because initially I thought a back light was some type of dome light - which I thought I doubt I have a back light as well until Kenneth revealed it was the what I call a "rear window"..

When you "...said windscreen instead of windshield and some maroon moron let loose with, you're not in England that's called a windshield get it right blah blah blah." I'd have said to him if I jam a hot poker iron up your *** would you prefer I call it a fireplace poker?

The people who predict the weather are stating our upcoming next 24 hours will be unprecedented - having not seen freezing rain snow of this type in the past 25 years. I'm not sure how Atlanta managed to outmaneuver this storm and we're going to get it, but I'm happy for y'all. It's going to be dicey since I'm directly on the coast (1/8 mile from the Atlantic Ocean) & the ocean temperature is ~60°F but the ambient air temperature is supposed to be ~28°F tonight and remain at freezing until Saturday afternoon while it rains and turns to ice & sleet. Folks from around these parts are calling it cataclysmic or an apocalypse. They might not call it cataclysmic - doubtful anyone around here has ever heard that word.

Here's one for y'all. When I grew up, we called a house which had an anteroom at the backdoor a "mud room" and some called it a "slush room" (I suspect since the winter snow & ice often produced slush on your galoshes (boots). Most of you call this room a "mud room" (obviously the room where you took off your muddy shoes and such)?

Kenneth - Get the hell out of here - it is? I'm learning so much in the past two days on this thread! It's like Christmas. Now, I'll have to find a Bugs Bunny episode with a maroon. I've actually heard the term "macaroon" used to refer to someone as a nut (coconut) head.
