Kenneth - Like you, beer and bourbon would definitely be on my list. I can understand some of the hysteria of stocking up before a big winter storm after living through the blizzards of 1967 and 1978 in Michigan. Both storms dumped +20-inches of snow over 2-days, with several areas getting 25 to 30-inches. In '67, the snow was drifted onto the roof of my parents ranch style home. We couldn't get out of our subdivision for 6-days. The State activated the National Guard, and local municipalities organized snowmobile brigades to go door to door to check on folks. 1978 was just as bad, and worse in some areas. So I can understand why some folks that grew up in the North have the hysteria, but if you grew up in, and live in the South, I don't get it.

-5° this a.m. on my way to work. That system was west of us , but dropped down to the Ohio river valley and south, on it's way east. it would have given us some serious lake effect snow, western N.Y. state will feel that. Hope that you guys have everything battened down. Norm, i don't recall, was the work on your truck done at the dealer or an independent shop? If at the dealer, and they keep dragging thier feet on it, contact corporate. I did that once with a Ranger that I had 30 years ago, you would be surprised how quickly a service manager will call you to get things taken care of. Jamesbo, I understand a Leopard going for the neck, hence the scarf, I'm not convinced that flying tin is that particular, wear body armor. Well, I wanted to try and get a pic of the moon rising tonight, but lake effect clouds have moved in, making that a no go. Off to get some Monterrey jack cheese for my white chili.

 

Dan - Independent, as in the automotive service garage directly next to my home. Albeit, I "hate" having these conversations. I'll get it worked out eventually, it's like walking on eggshells.

Chris, after the blizzard of '78, they got some of the roads cleaned out, so we could make some headway in some areas in an effort to help some folks out in the neighborhood. We would still have to stop and walk up to house's after climbing over drifts. One neighbor, a friend of my mom (and her boss) lived just a few houses away from my parents. We stopped there and asked if she needed anything, her response was " a twelve pack of Miller lite, and Banquet chicken for Rocky". Rocky was her poodle!

 

Well, let me splain

1st It almost never snows, it ices

2nd Every Betty has a Mercedes and has no earthly idea how to drive in snow/ice

3rd. It's like bumper cars on ice

4th. It can happen very quickly, rain, temps drop, ice cluster phuque

5th We [down here ] don't have the amount of equipment to make a serious dent in the rare occasions

 

So Jamesbo, why mainly milk and bread? If people got eggs as well they could have french toast. If I were afraid I couldn't get back out I think I'd get soup or TV dinners. Even if the power goes out the gas stove will still work.

I get a kick out of the people with 4 wheel drives. They think they are okay on ice. Just extra wheels turning as they go into the ditch.

Hm, as I look out the back windows I see it has stopped snowing. It's been snowing all afternoon. But nothing stuck. Some of those flakes were huge! This is all going to be ice when it gets dark, I'm staying in.

 

Mike, I really have no idear Maybe if ya got rug rats, ya need to feed them cereal. Like I said [above] I bought tortillas, and cheese and sum chicken and onions. I'm having enchiladas, quesadillas, fajitas etc

 

James - I know northern Alabama and Georgia are bad for ice storms, I have a really close friend that lives in Huntsville. The point I was trying to make about North vs. South is that in the South, the roads may keep you in for a day or two, but then it gets warm enough to melt, in the North you may be homebound for a week.

 

Ain’t that the truth. Last year’s ice storm in Southwest Louisiana my Mom said it was below 30 degrees on Monday and on Friday it was so hot she was running the AC.

 

Dan - That's a funny story! I was in college at Albion during that blizzard. They canceled classes for 3-days and it was a constant 3-day party! I remember quite a bit of snow skiing behind 4x4's with a water ski tow rope. A minor miracle no one got killed or maimed!

 

The worst of Izzy has passed. It was dicey for ~30'. So long BEATCH! On another bright side - I love a great working clothes dryer.

I have a saying for this time of year: " I can get snowed in at home, but not at work". Ya ain't keeping me there no way, no how.

James, we got 11 inches one winter in Nashville when I attended college. I think it was 01. Shut the entire city down. No classes; we could still get food. The lgbt/pothead/theater/philosophy dorm next to mine made a snow ***** about 20 feet long and 3 feet thick. I may have thanked them for getting the record right.

69w31, Kenneth, you two are right. I used to love snow as a kid visiting from FL. I didn't mind it in boarding school the two years I spent in CT, nor in college in Nashville. But, as soon as I had to work and drive in the stuff, I don't want it on anything but a Friday afternoon AFTER I got home from work and the store. Like said, I'll get snowed in at home, I like being at home by myself; lots of things needing done.

 

I recall the ice-storm of 1967 in Northern Illinois - we were ice skating on the streets.

I seem to recall now you do have a domain; although, we both know you have to have a website to post the video not just the domain (I'm busting your ***** you can thank me later).
I just cancelled my two GoDaddy hosted websites, but I've retained a half-dozen domain names. I copied each of my websites to my home PC in case I want them hosted again.

I'd like a fiefdom rather than a domain, anyways. A fiefdom where I'm surrounded by young nubiles feeding me peeled grapes, wafting me with Palm branch leaves and a full-time masseuse. Domains just aren't what they used to be for me.

 

Well, if we're discussing feudal lands, I suppose I'll be a count and have a county. My website was dumb and I took the html files down. Now I just pay a hosting company 4 bucks a month to host the domain and a yearly registration fee. I get email and file space to ftp stuff into. Oddly, since I am on the bottom of their packages, any time they upgrade the bottom level, I get pulled along. The old ROP had horrific attaching capabilities, so I would put pictures there and link them, of my cars and of my contributions to the "Nice Butt" thread.

 

I was performing similar type things. At some point I thought - who the hell cares if I have a website and what it looks like. With a large background in IT, blah, blah, blah, I thought I'd be cool to have it, set it up, maintain it, pay for it, etc., etc. It became a boat - just another hole in the water to throw away my money. It was fun though...sorta.

 

I'm in for that. Heck, I'd even be the ****-boy for a part of that.

Gosh after a gross day all day yesterday it's nice this morning and the sun is trying to come out. Our power went out around 3 last night. I know that because the smoke detector started chirping and that drives Tiger insane. Finally got him calmed down. The power was out 2 and a half hours. One chirp out of the smoke detector and Tiger was riled up again. It must have blinked after I went back to sleep because I had reset the one clock and it was flashing again.

Decided to forego the Awful house this morning. It was nice to sleep in for a change. I got tons to do today and I'm not going to get it all done, so why worry about it. I might go in for lunch, I'll be out and about.

Jamesbo I look back at my growing up and young adulthood and wonder how I lived up there as well. It's like the heat and humidity down here. You just do it. I miss an awful lot of things from up home but I don't see me ever living up there again. We fly to Chicago I think 15 times a day, I can go visit any time I want.

Norm I was still baking during that storm in 67. However, I remember a similar storm in 1979. I saw people wearing their "I survived the blizzard of 79" Tshirts through the 80s.

Guess I'll get ready for the day and get something done. It's been fairly breezy, maybe it's acted like a frost-free refrigerator and dried up all the ice. Peace.

 

James, yes, the school of engineering. The Peabody College of Education is one of Vanderbilt's schools. They are, along with arts and science, music, and engineering, the four schools that do undergrad degrees. They also do graduate degrees of education.

James - Curious. Is there a particular JD model which occupies his time for performing the splits and any idea the reason for the splits as it relates to issues/parts, etc.?

 

Not that I know of. He goes for years w/o doing one then has a flurry. I personally think people with short legs tend to ride the clutch. I'm sure you know, these golf course tractor have a ton of hours on them but a VERY well maintained. I'm guessing maybe 5000 hours . They are close to trading them in. I wanted to wait for one but his boss has 1st dips. So I gave up and bought mine

He told me their JD rep couldn't guarantee a delivery date on 4 new ones So I guess they are doing their best to keep the 4 they have in top shape. This time of year [in fact all year long] they are vacuuming leaves and grass clippings as well as filling the front end loaders with limbs from the storm

 

Ah ha. Now I know the reason you picked yours up elsewhere since I know you were originally planning to get one from the club. I'm hoping to get a game in yet this month (maybe). This coming Wednesday appears to be an opportunity - fingers crossed. Time to head next door shortly for a civil discussion regarding my F250 diesel.

 

My attempts at a civil discussion regarding my F250 oil leak were absolutely fruitless & wrought with ill-temper by the automotive service garage owner. I could go on & on & on - my blood is boiling right now. I'll leave it at that for the time being. I have indoor activities/items which should help to keep me from going postal.

James - I appreciate you reaching out. My blood is boiling at the moment w/ my efforts right now attempting how best to categorize & resolve the emotional distress/anguish/hatred & contempt I feel. It really is significant, but my attempts & plans are now centered in removing myself from the situation and not to allow this hostile event to escalate. Life is really, really, really short and no matter how much hatred I feel for people of this caliber and this situation, I refuse to allow it to escalate and present itself as a means to an end in causing me any further hardship. I'll get over it, I hope he never does. I wish as much ill-fate to him as is possible. You might hear more of this issue as time moves forward, but for now - my resolve is to remove myself "entirely" from the situation. His garage will never touch another vehicle of mine nor will I ever engage in any conversation with this person or anyone associated with his garage. I will remain silent, make absolutely no attempts to ever engage with him and I will neither allow this to ruin my day nor compromise the person I am. Argh, what a F'ing day.
