Subaru's have a great following, people love them. My former neighbor bought another Hyundai Santa Fe a couple of months ago, and they knocked six grand off of the sticker! It was a loaded one. They also have a 10 year 100,000 mile warranty. Careful on the Silverado's, many are built in Mexico.
Good morning! Today woke up to 3-4" of snow. It won't last. I'm ready for spring. The news had a story about the Coast Guard cutter was supposed to break up ice ice between Cheboygon and Bois Isle Friday, so we thought that would be cool to see and went up there. But when we got there we found out they weren't doing it that day... Oh well still saw a lot of northern Michigan, went over the Mackinac Bridge and ate in St. Ignace at a cool little place then took the old roads back home. It was a sunny day and fun. Have a good one!
Evidently, April precipitation arrived a few days early. It rained all night here in Okie homa. We never get snow after 2nd week of March, 40F this morning. Can't imagine having 4" at this time of year. Would be great snowball and snowman snow!
Beautiful out this morning, about 50. Spring has definitely sprung.
Today when we get back from the Awful house I'm going to attempt to change oil, for the third day in a row. In fact, I don't even expect to get it done. It seems I have no ability to focus these days, and always get sidetracked. We'll see how I do today.
Tried to rent a post hole digger yesterday, and the one-man job he had was a huge thing that you towed with a pickup. Not gonna work. He said he had a small one man digger but it sucked, and wouldn't go through the dirt we have around here, much less with rocks and roots. So I'll have to wait until my friend who's got a good machine can help me.
Well nothing gets done sitting here. Hope everyone has a good weekend.
Morning all,
Holy cow I must have been tired. I didn't wake up till 8:06 today!! Just shy of my insulin alarm so right now I've popped my smorgasbord of pills and am waiting for my insulin pen to warm up. It's tucked into my waistband so my body can warm it up faster. Takes about 15 minutes after coming out of the fridge. I should have taken it out last night when I realized I had only 7 units left in my old pen. But it gives me time to read what happened yesterday and maybe peck out a little bit on the keyboard.
Greg - I feel for ya on that snow curse. We're hopefully done with it here and I really don't want to see any especially now that I have my new summer tires on.
Dan - Yes, there are tons of great deals to be had if one knows where to look; and dealers are only too willing to get the cars off their lots. Interesting about the Santa Fe - that's the one my missus likes too. And I agree about where to look for production and model.
Mike - How to say this without being a dick, ever since GM decided to strand Canadian workers by shutting down the Oshawa plant and not being flexible on keeping it open I've decided to be very careful about what company I want to support. You mentioned the Kia and Hyundai plants in the USA employing tons of workers. I'm all for that - they're making cars for the NA market domestically which means they don't have to pay for shipping and import duty. That's not only financially smart, but it's also smart to employ local workers. I like that even if the majority of profits go offshore. Even Subaru does the same thing. So I guess in a nutshell I've seen the quality of the import market improve a lot, as well as their offerings while I've seen the General's offerings drop off and quality problems increase somewhat. BTW a Silverado is just out of the question. I don't need something that big or expensive sitting in the driveway. They're nice inside but it's not a practical choice for me and I do have to look at that aspect as well. I get your suggestion to buy NA, and that's a consideration. Anything GM selling up here that the VIN starts with 1 would likely be fine. The Malibu, while having a few drawbacks; such as getting in and out, and the side visibility, having to take off the entire front bumper cover to change a headlight - is a great example why buying that car wouldn't make sense to me. It's great for my son though. Two advantages of that car are it's super quiet inside, and it gets incredible fuel economy. Tell you what - I'll keep an open mind to the offerings and brands as we inch closer to the fall.
Hmm, Jim musta headed norte....
Jouni - I'm actually disappointed that there's some rust starting. I keep that car clean all the time. But it doesn't live in a garage either. Not buying a $500 car either. Here, a $500 car is basically a spit away from the crusher and usually mechanically and structurally unsound.
Oh look here I am again. Awful house was a challenge this morning. This guy comes in all the time and he's loud and boisterous and thinks everyone loves him. He's really a jerk. And for the second week in a row this woman came and sat next to me and kept telling me I should go to church. She is old and talks softly and fast and I can't understand her. So I'm sure my constant asking what? and probably answering her questions incorrectly make me sound rude. I pray she forgives me.
Allan I here you about the General not taking care of its people. After some of their shenanigans over the years I'm not as staunch a supporter as I once was, but I do feel they build a superior automobile. As a closet Chrysler fan I'd suggest something Dodge, but anything Chrysler is just too expensive for what it is. Really I'm a fan of the old stuff, which makes me part of the problem. I wouldn't buy a new one and that doesn't help their sales. I forgot that GM closed/is closing the Oshawa plant. Just finish your Cutlass already and drive it everywhere, and let the missus get whatever she likes. I know get a Corvair. They even come with AC. You just have to learn the art of tightening the fan belt.
Okay! I need to get the laundry started and then I'm changing oil. I told Tiger this plan and he's going to keep me to it.
Mike, Awful House sounds like it's really living up to its name isn't it? If someone came in and sat beside me like that old woman I'd likely tell her to stop talking to me. If she kept nattering I'd simply tell her that I already have my ticket punched for an express trip to hell where all my friends are waiting for me. And if she still persisted I'd look her square in the eye and tell her, "look, I'll be happy to buy you a steaming hot cup of Shut the Hell Up if it will make you do that". Hey, don't laugh, I did that to a guy one time and he was so offended he got up and left. Problem solved! Sometimes I think you need to be deliberately rude back to em when they are infringing on your right to a nice meal without interruption.
Interesting you say Mopar. I looked at some of their offerings but I'm not into their styling cues for the grocery getter cars. Aging has this effect where I no longer need to go fast or far, and fuel economy is getting to be important. And no way I'm buying a performance car either. There's more flex fuel and hybrid and electric on the market now than ever before but it's pricey. Last year we seriously looked at the blue oval for my son, but that was before we found that screaming deal on the Malibu. Even Ford is cutting back on some of its production and offerings. Seems like most of the market is targeting SUV's with AWD. I detest most of them for their CVTs. I would rather have something I can shift myself but have to be sensitive to the missus who doesn't like SMTs. I watch a show up here called Motoring and the reports from them say the newer gen Hyundai and Cadillac products have a newer 8 speed AT.+ overdrive. Shnikeys! There's more and more gear ranges. Almost like having an automatic Kenworth huh? Actually I was surprised to hear you say you're part of the problem. I'm in the same boat. I'm slightly apprehensive of the newer technology even though it's spoda be better and safer. I know that when I bought the Sonata the General was not even in the picture because of the QC problems they were having, in addition to them axing Oldsmobile, Pontiac and Saturn. But I'd been following the development of the import segment for several years before I bought it and honestly it's been a solid little performer. Funny thing is that while I consider it to be a mid size compact, the market calls it a full size car now. How times have changed. I remember both of my 98's and Custom Cruiser as full size. So when you described the Silverado as 22' long it brought a smile to my face. Ironically, I also thought about just driving the Cutlass in the summer and using another car for the winter. After all, neither it nor me is getting any younger and I seem to be piling up the miles more than it is. It would be really hard on gas though unless I transplant a 200 4R into it, now that it has 3.42:1 gears instead of the 2.73:1.
Well have fun with laundry and changing oil in the dogmobile. I guess it's kinda handy when you're under it to tell Tiger to hand you a wrench and he does
Ohhhhh, Jooouuunniii?? I've got another batch of jerky in the dehydrator now. Today's it's Teriyaki flavor. Tomorrow's is traditional season with spices. Can you smell it in the air? Smells like the inside of a teepee here...
Greg, no snow over here. 44°, supposed to be in the 30's tomorrow. Went and picked up my Amish coat rack and doorway bench a little while ago. Have to get a couple of long screws to mount the coat rack to the wall, so that will be my small project of the day.
Spend a day masking ice from driveway and yard; tinkered with car stuff, heated sauna, took a few beers, and soon watching tv.
Not much else, but all in all, nice day; +10c outside, t-shirt time! Plus i could turn few days back almost all heat off from the house, so my electric bill also thanks the weather.
Allan R - Quess what? I passionately hate Teriyaki And Wasabi, yuk. Almost makes me womit. Sooooo you can keep your batch
1969w3155 - Any pics of those amish treasures you bought? I like woodwork, doing and seeing quality one
bry593 - What not to like? That 6-speed manual Ill have manual on my beater for reason that their cheap, but noo.... I always even jump as many gears as possible- usually goes from 1st to 3rd, then from 3rd to 4th, and then to 6. Or if its 5 speed, from 3rd to 5th
Okay, wife came from shop, bought Coca-cola with potato chips. Ill quess im off to spend evening, our little boy just went sleeping. Have a day all.

Gorgeous day out here, I think I'm actually going to take a Buick convertible out for a drive this afternoon.
So; getting back to Allan's "Hastings" moment; here's something I picked up at an antique show this morning, and it was positively the last thing I'd expect to find there.
So does anyone want to hazard a guess as to what it is?
Alright, the picture isn't the best, but if you look close enough you can see the googly eyes, nose and mouth. I'll spare you the internet search, it's a William the Conqueror English penny, known as a "Paxs" penny, circa 1066-1086. It's fairly rare; almost impossible to find around here. And this antique dealer from Grande Cache of all places had it. I got a good deal on it, I paid less than half of what it catalogs at.
So; - getting along with the topic du jour; - I used to be loyal to GM, I'm a Buick guy through and through. My last brand new car was a Buick, and it was an incredible let-down. It was a 2008 Allure (LaCrosse), one built before the bankruptcy. Biggest POS I've ever owned, and I've owned some Eurotrash that was more reliable in the end, so that should tell you how bad it was. The company didn't stand behind the lemon one flippin' bit, they were happy to take my money though.
On the flipside, the best new car I've ever owned was a 2004 Olds Alero. Besides going through 5 dash clusters before i could tell how much fuel or how hot it was, it was a great car. If they still built those, I'd buy one. When I went to trade it in, they tried to stiff me on it. Brand loyalty accounts for nothing these days. As for what to buy, I have no idea anymore. I'm completely turned off just about any modern car and tend to view them as I would an appliance. It's hard to get excited about a stove, the same goes for any car built in this century. What worries me is my LeSabre is getting very long in the tooth, and things are starting to go wrong; - I'm going to have to replace it, but with what, I have no idea. I will not entertain a Mopar, at all, no questions asked. I absolutely detest them and always have. My first job when I was 16 was working at a service garage, and all I did was swap engines and transmissions in Chrysler products. I swore I'd never ever own one, and I'll hold true to that promise.
Here's a fun bit of trivia; - next time you go to a VW dealership ask why there isn't a picture of the founder on the wall like there is in other dealerships. Anyone want to hazard a guess why?
Now to get a convertible started....have a good night!

Founded under the leadership of a **** as a state-owned manufacturer.
Alright Jouni, here ya go. I tried to show the grain of the wood, cherry with ashbury stain. The hallway where they are located is about 40" wide, so a little hard to get pics with the lens that I have.

Well I know the beetle was designed by Ferdinand Porsche. But it was commissioned by Der Füerher under the German Nationalist Socialist party.
Would you want to be looking at this picture in the showroom?

Yup; I guess that was too easy.
Yes, Adolf started the whole mess, and if only would have known what the the private enterprise version of what he created did as opposed to the state-owned mess, I think he'd be shocked. If he'd survived the war, he probably would have had Nordhoff shot for suggesting that they market it outside of Germany, and for changing up the model line in the 50s. Porsche probably would have retired to obscurity in the late 40s instead of giving his name to a line of cars, Adolf would have insured that there would be no competition to his KDF-Wagen. At any rate, it's for the better that VW became what it did and didn't end up as the KDF-Wagen company. VW is having a lot of trouble living down their **** past, they just figured out that the Wolfsburg factory used slave labour during the war. What German factory didn't?
Good thing the Brits never conceded to moving the borders a few miles further west when they stumbled on the factory. It didn't figure on their pre-war Michelin guides, so they had no idea it was actually there. So when they wondered what to do about it, the Russians quietly suggested that the borders could be pushed over a few more miles. The Brits considered it because they didn't want any more mouths to feed, they were effectively broke in 1945.
Just had the Electra out and about, - man, was that nice to get behind the wheel of a real car again! First time since September. So I got my kicks for the month; - at least if it snows again I can say I've been out once. Hopefully the roads will be clearer when I come back in two weeks, but this being Alberta, there's a better likelihood that it'll snow at least once more before it completely clears away. But the car thermometer said 50 today...nice!
Ah the KDF-wagen. Strength through Joy. Sounds like you're going on vacation. Just think, if Hitler were around in the 60s he'd be riding with hippies.
The oil is changed. The car is vacuumed and all the crap that's been riding around with me in the back has been redistributed.
Speaking of Buicks, I missed out on a supreme bargain yesterday. There's an old couple a few blocks away that have had an 80s Century forever. One day it showed up wrecked. Looked drivable, just needed a header, the headlights, maybe a bumper cover. I thought, if they ever sell that it would be an easy project to get it going. Yesterday when I was coming home from work, lo and behold here's the Buick on their driveway with a sign, for sale $300. I was so excited. I thought, I'll go home, take care of Tiger, and come back up and talk to them. Well guess what, an hour later I went back and the sign was gone and the car moved. Later on the car was gone. Guess where it went. Two blocks from me in my own neighborhood, so now I get to see it every day. Where's the luck. It would have been an excellent airport car. And I would have written Dynaflow on the quarter panels.
Nice looking furniture, Dan. My plan is to have nice looking furniture some day. I couldn't have anything nice before because the two dogs would have torn it up. Tiger isn't like that, so I need to get it together and fix the place up. Hm, I'm saying this two years after getting Tiger.
It got up to 75 today. Glorious. Tomorrow should be just as nice. Not gonna plan anything because pretty much once it's planned it never gets done. So I'll just go with the flow.
From: Sherwood Park, Alberta, in the Great White North
Good Morning!
Last day here, then off to BC for a couple of weeks. Just taking care of some loose ends before I have to pack. Might get another run in the Electra in yet, who knows. Weather looks "meh", cloudy but slim chance of precipitation, which at a couple of degrees above freezing would likely fall as snow.
Wish we had something like the "Awful House" up here, the closest thing is a Denny's, but I'm tired of paying $20 for a crappy breakfast.
Still trying to finish up that article; - writer's block and procrastination are terrible things. Have to get it done today.
Slow to get moving today, slept until almost 9. Wasn't gonna go to the Awful house, but figured what the heck.
Marc I don't like Denny's, either. But I go about once a month when I go to see my Mom. She likes Denny's so we go. One opened just down the street from the Awful house I go to maybe a couple years ago, and it's closed already. Bad, I mean terrible service for one, and it was never busy. Now pieces are falling off the building, it looks like ruins. Haha. Suck it, Denny's. Don't even get me started on Ihop.
Good luck on your trip. Be careful. Have some fun despite packing up a mansion.
Never did hear from the Deuce guy, so I'm not planning on going up to get it today. Last I heard he was about to work on the winch. After he finished with the axle seals he took it on his errands all afternoon. I would like to know what it's going to cost me, and talk to him about the next round of work(which will likely be next year).
Cold today and overcast. I don't know where this came from because last I saw the forecast was for nice weather for the foreseeable future. It rained over night and now all the pollen is paste. Don't know what I'll do today. Yes I do, stay in and look at the internet.
Was a nice enough day outside. Some car stuff and cleaning, as usual. My Brother went and bought Jaguar XJ40 Vanden Plas, 89' with 3,6 litre and automatic, Black of course. Really really nice. And so joins the great hobby of cars.
Can you imagine what? We have elections for new parliament for next 4-year season, And surprise surprise, our NATIONAL media, funded from tax-money, have just happened "miracuosly" lose one particular interview of one party chairman. That party is nationalist, and our lovely tax-funded national media ( they should be neutral, but havent been for decades) position to far left with greens. Ah the joy of the hassle incoming They must be really in fear to do such a move under week before pre-voting starts. Theres Small change that this national-minded party ( its not far-right like *****, just people tired to uncontrolled immigration and outsale of our country national fortunes to outsiders) is going to win. I sooo hope it happens. Im full of this crap here.
Canada is on a 2 game win streak...if 2 games can be called a streak. But they were very convincing beating the Koreans and Russians yesterday. Wow are the Koreans on fire or what??? Their skip is a force to be reckoned with through the competition by the remaining teams they face. In a smashing surprise victory, Netherlands (the underdog) beat John Shuster (USA - defending World Champions) in their opening game. Jaap van Dorp has dropped to throwing thirds rocks but this team has matured so very much in the last 3 years. Not the pimply faced kids that went to their first Worlds back in 2017 here in Edmonton. The drama continues to unfold this afternoon for Kevin Koe as he takes on Italy and then China tonight. Shouldn't be too hard to beat either of those teams.
Hey Jouni - The Teriyaki jerky turned out ok, but like you said it's not the greatest. Right now the traditional blend is in the dehydrator and it's going on 3+ hours. Should be ready about the time you get up and are looking for something to eat... I think next time I'll use a different cut of meat and let it cure for 2 days to get extra flavor infused in the meat. Next time I'm at Costco I'll have to check on their price for eye of round beef.
Marc - I went to 2 Denny's in Red Deer. One was for a curling breakfast and the other when I accompanied my son to a business conference. I was greatly underwhelmed by their offering. There's a Denny's just outside of Revelstoke that we used to stop at for burgers and fries. Key words - used to - when their food and service was good. Too many places have dropped the ball on quality control it seems. Have fun on the island, and safe travels there and back.
Think I'll head over to Lowes and pick up some Scotts 30-0-3 fertilizer. They're selling it for 1/2 price early spring sale. I can store it a while till I need it. I got tagged on FB to check out Superstore. They were selling 10kg bags of Alaskan Ice melt for $2.14 instead of the usual $12.78. I may swing by there and see if they have any left. That stuff is like the Fort Knox of ice control.
Dan - The furniture looks really nice. We have Amish communities up here too and they have an on line and physical store in town. Simply Amish
Mike - Too bad on the Buick. Maybe you could go over and offer the guy $350 to get it for yourself? Why would you want that car anyway?
Break time. Been puttering around the house since I got back from Awful house. Sun is trying to come out but it's a little breezy and cold out.
Allan I don't have a good answer for you. Even though most of the cars I buy are wrecks, the vision I see for them is to put them back the right way, so they are nice. I think it would be fun to have a car I don't care about, give it some rattle can stripes, fix the damage by scrounging junkyard parts, that sort of thing. I would then drive it to work and Walmart and not worry about door dings. Then when I got tired of it or it broke, send it off.
Might go check out the shop for a little while and stand around daydreaming.
Regular work tomorrow. I'll sit at my buddy's desk since he'll be in inspection. That will give me a reprieve from Irritating man. Might postpone my trip to my Mom's for a week, depending on when I need to get my truck, and if my friend can help me with the fence I need to get built.
Dan, I gota a Boston Whaler I need sum wood refinished on. I'll feed cha if ya feel like sanding
Kinda cool and breezy down here
Jes MHO but the VW bug was a death trap, easy to roll and not the greatest location fer a gas tank during a head on collision. I do think a Thing" with Africa corps paint and insignia Would be kinda cool but not very PC
Gonna go smack whitey inn the mawn;in if it isn't snowing
Afternoon all, raining on and off for the last few days so the temps have been hanging around the 20 degree mark.
Subaru is quite a popular car down here. Big aftermarket scene too. The WRX sti is the one most people strive to get. newer ones are rated at just under 300 HP from a 2.5 litre turbo charged engine. 4 wheel drive with that much would be fun in the snow Allan Downside is their around the 40K mark I couldn't justify that much for a sedan unless it was high end luxury and that's just not Subaru.
We had Denny's for Christmas dinner where we got into Vancouver at the beginning of our trip. After the traveling we had done to get there and the fact that it was the only place open Christmas night we found it to be ok for the price. Had it for our last meal in Canada as well since it was within walking distance from the hotel we were staying at
Good luck smacking whitey, may your shots be straight and true
I'm sure you could rig up some sort of automatic gate opener for the place Mike.
Time to stop procrastinating and do some work.
Take care everyone,
Adrian
Dan, I gota a Boston Whaler I need sum wood refinished on. I'll feed cha if ya feel like sanding
Blah ha ha. Oh, you're serious. If you take it up to Ohio, I am sure that you may find some Amish who would to partake in your en-devour. Of course they may have the same reaction as me. Marc, I have more info on the Mitsu/Hyundai engine history. In the late 1990's-early 2000's Hyundai had a distribution parts center in Michigan (the may still have it). At that time they had a 2.4L four popper that was used in some of the first cars that they built for the U.S. market. They came out with a new design four cylinder engine to replace it, and that 2.4L was shelved as it was then old tech. The joint Chrysler/Mitsubishi partnership at that time needed a four cylinder engine to use in their collaboration. They approached Hyundai on it, and Hyundai sold them the design to use in the jointly produced and/or labeled cars like the Dodge Stealth. My understanding was that there were 1.8, 2.0, and 2.4L versions of this engine. So, Mitsubishi was not the supplier, rather a builder and user along with Chrysler, of a Hyundai designed engine

Geez, it must be morning because no one else has posted and I got the worm. At 3pm! Hope everyone is having a good Monday.
It's beautiful here, sunny but a bit nippish. Well it beats rain so I'll take it. Got some running around to do this afternoon.
Work was good. That dude still irritated me, because we use the same printer and even though I'd wait to print my stuff until his is done, he'll still reach into the printer and grab my stuff and hand it to me. I'm not a freak, I'm not a germaphobe, but I hate people touching my stuff. Found out both guys that use this desk are gone all week, so I'll be working by myself all week.
Thought I finally found a winner in the Find a car built on the day I was born game. A guy in Florida has a Chevelle that had numbers really close to what I wanted, and he's the original owner, but he sent me a picture of the data plate and it was a full month off. Not a bad car, I really wanted it to work. But I wouldn't buy a 4 door Chevelle just for the heck of it, deal or not. So I keep looking.
Nice weather outside. Been tinkering with stuff ie. wandering mindlessly getting nothing worth mentioning done. Except i torn my trans apart a bit, and im going to try one thing i tried to ask on trans topic, but i quess i wasnt understood or i expressed myself really badly. Might be both
Jamesbo - Your absolutely correct about that real World beats april's day pranks. Unbeliavable stuff happening..
Hmm... What to do for the rest of the day. Not sure.. Probably kill time? Have a day all.
Marc piicked a good time to head to the coast. It's -1 here this morning. I see all these comments about global warming and wonder who the heck they are trying to fool. I have friends who moved to the East coast who claim that much like Chicken Little said "The Sky is Falling". I'd like to see some real proof, not just what the politicians say so they can spend money on their pet projects.
The missus wanted me to make burgers last night but we were out of burger meat. Fortunately the market had extra lean ground beef on sale this week for $7.69/kg which is really good. I bought 2 warehouse packs so she could freeze the leftovers. Those burgers turned out really nice on the grill. Very little shrinkage. I topped em off with some sharp cheddar. Mmmm, mmmm, good.
One of the contractors was here yesterday to do an inspection and quote on the attic insulation. Unlike the previous guy who poked his head into the attic and just looked NSEW in the space, this guy went up into the attic and checked everything. He showed me the pictures of some of the problems. It appears the insulation there has compacted to about 5" or so which means its R value is only around 18-22. Spoda be a minimum of R40 by code here. We decided that we want R60 which will put less stress on the furnace and AC. The quote from this guy will be coming today via email, and I suspect it will be higher than the first one. I have one more guy coming, and then we'll decide which one we want.
Jim - Would it make a difference?
Mike - What if someone had a more door that was the same month, but it was a full size? Now I can't help but wonder what our old 67 Town Sedan's data plate said. It was a really decent car but it had that heavy duty suspension so it rode kinda hard. I don't know why Dad didn't just replace the springs and shocks with different ones.
Adrian - WRX is not for me. Most of them here have the crap driven out of them and the dealers won't honor warranty because it's designed for performance. Besides, it's just not the right car for the missus and me. The Outback is nice though but I don't want the 3.6 nor the poor handling, and so is the Legacy but it has that AWD CVT that I just don't like. Car and Driver write ups score the Subaru lineup fairly low overall. No worries, the search goes on.
I'm still trying to figure out how gas prices have gone up 42¢/L (1.58/gal) in the last 2 months here...
Good Morning Guys:
I wasn't on last week. I spent about 3 days building a trash can enclosure. Since our house backs up to the lake and we have a side swing front entry garage, the trash containers have to sit in the driveway. They really distract from the appearance and we have discussed building and enclosure for most of the time we have lived here which is 21 years. I put two post 2 feet down in concrete and dug the holes with post hole diggers. That was the toughest part. I will put the stain on it this week and be done. It is amazing what you can get done when you retire. The weather here was perfect last week until Saturday. They had a local car show on Saturday that benefited Patriot Paws that provides service dogs for veterans. It was at the bowling alley. The temp was about 48 and the chill factor was in the 30's due to the wind blowing. A few of us sat in the bowling alley for about an hour and then I came home. They never had the show which was unfortunate. It has been chilly here ever morning since but the sky is beautiful. Allan, I have a hard time imagining -1 anytime but especially this time of year. I know our 90 degree weather is only about a month away. My wife and I went up yesterday and saw the great granddaughter. It was the first time we had seen her and got to hold her. She is a doll.
I hope everybody is doing well and has a good day.
Glenn
Just got back from the chiro. I like these later appointments, instead of stopping after work. I can go home and unwind a little, get out of my clunky boots, take care of Tiger, etc. So far I'm not sold on all this, but I handed over a huge chunk of change so I'll at least finish up this program.
The enclosure looks good Glenn. I wish a small project like that would make my house look better. Eh, it's getting there. I've only lived here 13 years, so I have a while to go.
Allan for the purpose of this mission it doesn't matter what the car is, Ford, Chevy, two door, wagon, whatever. It just has to have been built on the day I was born. Hard to verify, sure, but what fun would it be if it were an easy task.
Work wasn't too bad. Early in this morning, and early again tomorrow. Word is we're working Saturday but alas I'll be in Florida. Eh, it's going to be a busy summer.
Okay gonna get something to eat then hit the sack. I love it being light in the evening but it's tough getting to sleep when it looks like noon outside.

Ok, you got me wondering. How can you find out what day it was built? I'm under the impression that the Cowl tags only show the week the car was built, not the day. Do you know something about production that's a secret we don't?? The documentation I have from GM on my silver car shows what day it rolled off production, but you don't have that in the US. Hmmm, are you thinking of the time the car was initially started production in the FBW or similar areas of Ford or Chrysler plants or the day it came to life off the production line or the general week that you were born? Maybe I'm just reading too much into your quest. It's been awhile since we discussed it on this thread
I'm "assuming" the Broadcast card was printed at the end of the line, at least the end of the Fisher line. I would also assume the build sheet would be printed at the end of the line, but since most of the [Oldsmobiles] I look at are from Lansing, I'm not going to see that. I'm sure there is flaw in my thinking. I think at this point if I found a car with 06C on the tag that would suffice. Remember that convertible with the ugly seats I looked at a few months ago? It had 06C, but the guy didn't have any paperwork to go with it, and a few other issues kept me from really being excited about it. I texted that guy a couple days ago and it's been long sold.
Funny thing about this Chevelle, the guy put a picture of the VIN tag on the ad, and after some sleuthing on Chevelle enthusiast websites found out that car was built the last week of July. The Chevy factories reports the start and ending VINs of the cars it produced. Sure enough, when he sent a picture of the data plate it said 07D. I have yet to find a website that says Olds reported information like that.
This whole thing came from the notion that I wanted a car that was 100 years old, or one that would turn 100 while I owned it. That was easier said than done so I mused that maybe I should get a car the same age as me and we could turn 100 together. I still look at really old cars and if I should come home with one that is 100 now it would probably mean the end of my search for a birthday car. Who knows what I'm thinking sometimes.
Mike, the broadcast card is printed for the day the car starts being cobbled together at the FBW for GM models. My cars broadcast card shows April 7 start and also sequence it was put into production. I know from GM documentation that my car left the Lansing plant on April 10, 1972 (at what time I can't guess) so it didn't take a long time to build. Honestly I don't know if the Lansing plant ran on weekends or not, but I suspect it did since putting a car together from nothing to a rolling car in 4 days seems like a major production even by today's standards. Don't know about other brands but I suspect it's similar.
We know you'll never get a build sheet for the Lansing plant, but if you were lucky enough to get the actual build sheet for a car, those were printed for the actual date of final assembly.
There are no websites I know of that can report the data you described about the Chevelle, except for GM Canada. But you'd have to be asking them about a car that was either sold in Canada or produced for export to Canada to be that lucky. Sooner or later I'm sure you're going to find the needle in the haystack. Might not be in the condition you want or price range, but it's bound to be out there.
...the broadcast card is printed for the day the car starts being cobbled together...
I thought this was the case. The broadcast card build sheet was created by men (maybe a couple token women) who sat in large rooms up high in very large chairs. The information they had was fed (by minions) into a large database (probably an IBM 360 mainframe) using IBM punchcards, which were probably run through an IBM 77 electric punched card collator & an IBM 551 or 552 (maybe the 557) interpreter. The resulting broadcast card build sheet was most likely printed on an IBM 1403 chain (series) printer loaded with paper with perforated edges for tractor feeding. The resulting broadcast cards build sheets were provided to the various assembly line workmen at the beginning of each shift at the beginning of the assembly line so as each vehicle moved down the assembly line to the various stations, each assembly station and workmen knew which items were to be assembled for 'that' particular vehicle. As the vehicle passed from one station to the next, the broadcast card build sheet moved with the vehicle - I suppose. Complete conjecture on my part. At the end of the assembly line someone tossed the broadcast card build sheet into some dark & hidden compartment (or on top of the fuel tank). Or, in the case of Lansing, MI - the broadcast card build sheet passed through a Stargate wormhole (Einstein–Rosen bridge).

Reason: broadcast card>build sheet editing

Yup, conjecture it is. I believe you've mistaken the broadcast card for the Build Sheet. Classic newbie mistake. Broadcast cards were issued by FBW, not the final assembly line. That's why FBW cards are found in Lansing vehicles too. Lansing was careful to remove only the Build Sheets, of which only 1 was printed; and taped to the windshield of the car on the assembly line. Before the windshield was installed it was set on the dash.. Other divisions didn't apparently care. Sounds like you've been reading too much sci-fi and archaic IBM magazines. GM likely used IBM, but who really cares?
Here's a 73 Custom Cruiser being fitted with it's nose valence. Note the Build sheet taped to the Passenger side windscreen.
And here's a Delta 88 awaiting it's front clip and bumpers. See that build sheet taped to the windshield to the left of the workers head?

Ah...yeah. Newb. Those are great pictures - thanks for sharing those.

No. I assembled IBM printers, IBM interpreters & IBM collators as an undergraduate @ The University of Illinois while I took FORTRAN IV. You don't care, and;
Yeah, I remember doing punch cards for COBOL and having to take FORTRAN in college. PITA as far as I'm concerned, and a whole lot of wasted cardboard too just to get a lousy printout. Those are Lansing production photos.
Allan R - Since you seem to know something about buildsheets, whats up at year 1976? Mine is from Arlington, TX, and i have 5 build sheets.
Did they get sloppy at some point with the amount of those from manufacturer side and changed their instructions? Or was it strictly plant-based thing?
My last quarter at Emory B School we had to play this Business Game. The IBM computer took up a whole room on one floor, We were divided into teams all owing competing flatware businesses and made decision and put them on punch cards. At the time it was considered state of the art. Looking back, the limited number of decisions actually made make the whole process rather silly
Got 30 bales of long needle pine straw I need to get out before the rains come
