Allan, I have one of those squeegee's. I bought it from Cal Car Cover as well. I saw them advertised years ago, but was reluctant to get one until I saw a guy at a car show using one on a black Trans Am. He said no problems scratching the paint, as long as you got everything cleaned. They work fine. I bought mine to use on the '71 Supreme that I had back then, and used it on my brothers black '74 T-Bird a while back before selling it for his trust. Head over to California Car Cover website. You should be able to find one there.

Thanks Dan. What I'm seeing is a trend to support the squeegee is a decent product. Are you still using the product on your Hyundai? One thing I wonder about with all the new designs is the enormous number of compound curves. So it works well on paint and glass. Does it also work well on the plastic parts like head lights and tail lights?

Evening.

Sauna is on fire and beer is at froster, could life be better? No way. Messed with trans today, just cleaning and spending time. Was pretty warm, +5.
They promise +10 and sun for tomorrow

Allan R - Special question. When Oldsmobile made some Limited runs of aluminium intake manifolds, did they paint them to engine colour or left to bare aluminium? Congratulations for the 3rd Place! Money hided already?

My work car get washed max 2 times a year, when i change wheels. And even then if im in the mood. $600 beater looks better when its covered in dirt

Okay, have a day everyone, i go see if theres anything left of my sauna.

Hi everyone.

Beautiful out. Gonna go change the oil in the dog van because I got more important things to do this weekend. News at 11.

Had a cake party today at work. The foreman announced the employee of the quarter, and also two guys getting service pins. One guy was yours truly. Later on a guy with about 40 years came up to shake my hand, he said he was very happy for me and that 25 years is quite an accomplishment. I thought that was nice.

Allan I don't know why you wouldn't address those small rust spots on your car, especially since you're going to keep it in perpetuity.

So I got a text from my neighbor over at the shop today. The old lady that lives next door to me(and whose step sons I bought my place from) has died. She was in her 90s and very frail. But she'd take her little dog to the mail box every day and that was her big excitement. Anyway, she lived there by herself and I had been thinking lately that I needed to build a big fence across the property line so that when new people eventually moved in, they couldn't see my stuff and cause trouble. Or relatives selling the house thinking they were going to make things easier for themselves. I'm guessing now there will be a steady stream of people going in and out for various reasons, and I need to get this fence built post-haste. So that's what I'm going to be doing this weekend. Gotta come up with something clever for the gate. I don't want any hardware showing on the outside, but need to be able to get in from the outside.

Actually I had thought maybe I'd buy the house, that way I could live next door to my shop. How convenient would that be. I don't know, though, I try not to be superstitious but this house now has a 100% death rate(her husband died there years ago). Although, this is the second next door neighbor in two places I've lost in a month. A tad freaky.

Okay gonna go get to work on the car. Early again for tomorrow so that makes 8 over this week. I'll take it.

I never mock anyone, Mike. Mocking someone is extremely rude. I do enjoy having fun. You wanted a gate w/ no hardware.

You might have never watched any of the Netflix series SHAMELESS. It's a crazy insane funny series (in case you get Netflix). I just finished watching this season's last episode. That is the type of gate Frank would install.

You're right I did ask for exactly that...

Nope, don't have Netflix. In fact I don't have TV at all.

Got back from Costco and then went to get some stuff for the garage from Princess Auto. Came out to the car and popped the trunk. Surprise surprise surprise....There were my old winter tires wrapped in bags. I was somewhat pissed especially since I had told them the tires were junk and they could keep them. Somehow they interpreted that as "I know they're junk but I want to keep them". WTF is going through their heads? I was really specific at the counter that I didn't want them back. So a special trip back; a waste of time and fuel to get those things out of my trunk. The tire jockey who was taking them out was none too gentle on the trunk weather stripping - he ripped it off the metal ridge it's clipped to so I told him I wasn't happy with that. He didn't seem to care. I will be submitting a report to Costco about this so I'll see what happens.

The new tires ride well and are very quiet; of course most anything would be after listening to those GoodYear Ice radials humming for the last 2 years.

Mike - Do you know something I don't? Funny you should comment like that because after seeing the start of that rust I suggested to the missus that this fall when the 19's are on sale we might just look for a new car. So much for your theory on keeping it for perpetuity. I learned from my 95 Regency Elite that rust repairs are never done right and they always come back. This is an 07 Sonata, but only has 79K miles on it. I am not prepared to shell out $$$ to have those repairs done, so as long as I keep it looking good through the summer and spray some WD40 into the area where it's bubbling that might keep it at bay for the needed time.

Jouni - What Jim said. They were installed as aluminum. There were several different castings. I've seen some people paint theirs to match the engine but that seems wrong to me. What's up with your intake? And yes the money is hided. (Word you're looking for is 'hid') Actually I showed the missus the winnings but she didn't believe me. She thought I'd gone to the bank to take the money out. Wimmen

Jim - Whuuuut? ya mean we're all gonna die???

I pulled the plug on my cable TV subscriber subscription w/ Spectrum (formerly Time Warner POS) about five months ago. Yeah, I miss the Stanley Cup playoffs (the most), Golf Channel every single weekend (for sure). But, outside of those two channels, there is absolutely NOTHING on TV I care to watch - nothing, nada. Additionally, I'm so ANCIENT (I prefer vintage) I have a 36" cathode ray tube TV which works flawlessly for which I am not about to convert to an HDMI flat screen. Hell, my desktop monitor is a 41" HDMI.

I play A LOT OF GOLF - TV gets in my way of GOLF.

EDIT: If I elect to get more TV programs, I'm going to look into one of those free thingamagingies (can't recall the name of them).

Allan I'm sure you've said that you were going to drive the wheels of that car. But if you buy a new one when this one runs so well, you obviously will keep the old car and use it for some sort of custom project, like a Sonata-powered lawn chair or something. I would.

Norm I hated my cable company, but took me years to finally make the break. What's funny is now I'm on the mailing list for hundreds of pieces of junk mail a day from them. That's okay, it all goes into the wood stove and helps me keep warm.

And now, bedtime. Six hours until I have to get up and do it one last time for the week. Hope everyone has a good evening.

Mike - Nope. I'm not about to become a collector. The wife still has her Saturn so I'm not about to keep another car around that just takes up space and costs money to insure and license. If we buy a new one at the end of the summer, this one is gone. I'm not investing time nor money into something that will still be an old car. Yes I take good care of it, so I can leverage that into whatever I decide to buy. I don't have the luxury of all the land you do for storage.

Interesting that you guys have a hate hate relationship with your cable companies. We must have better service and products up here because I would never give up our flat screens, nor our internet or cable system. I guess it depends on where you live and what your lifestyle is/has been. Not being critical, just comparing.

Funny that you guys are talking about improperly repaired rust spots coming back, because they do. I just got the appraisal out on the Beaumont I was looking at, and while it's a nice car, there are spots coming back that were attended to professionally over 20 years ago. It's enough that it knocked the value on the car some, - the owner isn't all that happy with me, it didn't come in as high as he'd hoped. That's the one thing I hate about this business, I'm bound by a code of ethics to be honest and call 'em like I see 'em, and people don't like that. But it was an amazing car; it's the first one I got to look at in depth. For those of you who don't know a Beaumont is a Canadian version of a Chevelle; I'd even say it was slightly upscale to a Chevelle because it had GTO trim and dash, and some extra and very specific trim pieces that are unique to the car and nothing else. This one was an "SD", but not the rare SD, the slightly more common one. All the same, the production for Beaumont (all models) in 1967 was just over 12,000, - a fraction compared to how many Chevelles were made that year. So these things are stupidly rare, and virtually unknown outside of Canada or Chile.

Refinished a "South Bend" pocket watch today; - put on a mint dial, the thing looks like a million bucks. South Bend watch company was owned by Studebaker, and the watches were built as good as Studebakers were, they're almost bullet proof. However, the company went the way of the Dodo during the Depression in 1929. The Studebaker Brothers decided that high-end railroad watches were a declining market and so when sales slipped, they let it go in order to concentrate on their cars. So my watch is one of the last ones, it was built in 1928.

So there you go; there's your car based trivia for today.

Been a busy week; finished rebuilding my boss's mantle clock, wrote an appraisal, and now putting the finishing touches on an article for the coin magazine.

And yes, Allan, count me as one who hates cable, I'm ready to cut the cable as I find there's nothing on worth watching or paying $200 a month for. This computer is pretty much good enough to stream just about anything I would want to watch.

And now I'm going to veg-out....

Good Morning folks. I already see temp creeping up to +10 today… Hope that our driveway would melt so i could change winter-tires out. No hope to get on "top of the hill" with summer-tires. Same time its shame to worn perfectly good winter-tires on pavement. Hmm..
Sauna yesterday was good, as was beer. Today im visiting our capital, if by some stroke of luck one of two shops who concentrate to old American cars, would have gasket set for TH350. Ill particulary only need 1 lipseal, but i might aswell buy complete gasket-set. Just in case i need to torn back to it at summer when it loses all forward gears
Might aswell visit at work when im there.

Thanks to both of you, Jamesbo and Allan R. Reason i asked, was because i was thinking do i paint my dual-quad intake or not. Not even close to factory, but Still id like to keep the original paint-scheme, go figure ??? One thing id die for would be if Oldsmobile ever had produced 3x2 intake for small-blocks. Shame they didnt, but for me, that would be coolest thing on the planet.

Allan R - Any particular car looked yet? Id suggest atleast checking out Subarus. I really like mine over all other far-east products. Plus you cant beat 4x4
Seems to fight against rust good, too. Our 06' has no signs of rust ( thats my wifes car, and costs alot more than 600$, so it gets washed regularly ) and interior panels aint rattling like hell

Jamesbo - That "news flash" was good, almost spilled my coffee to Computer

Nailheadcanuck - Thanks for the trivia, interesting tidbit for sure. Sounds like youre liking the Beaumont Still? is the seller contacting back or did he get too mad about the price you offered?

Norm, I think you're speaking of Fire Sticks. I [like most of the world] hate my cable company. The charge more and more for less and less [that I wanta watch]. I've been looking into a Fire Stick but from what I can determine they have sum draw backs

Mike, Why not use a regular door hinge ? Ya need to decide which way ya want it to swing [in or out]

James, yeah - Fire Sticks, that's what they're called. I've only done a little bit of research on them. They may or may not be a good fit for me. The one issue I have, is where I live (town of 3800 - including all feral cats, dogs & birds) is situated on the Atlantic Coastline away from any large city so I may not get much of anything. Still, need to do more research (when I'm not playing pasture pool).

Norm, What I know about them wouldn't fill a thimble but my brother in law is a puter Geek. What I understand is the signal goes thru your modem, to the WiFi in your house and the Firestick plugs into your TV. Problem is if/when ya signal is week or hiccups the movie stops and starts

So, if your watching Sharon Stone in Basic Instinct and it stopped at certain parts of the movie ya might be inclined to throw the whole thing out the window

James- I'm one of those geeks. I understand the signal(s), the bitrates of streaming, the WiFi, etc. - no worries on that end. I need to better understand the deltas between the various types of Firestick devices (and others); and, whether they will actually provide me with anything I am interested in viewing.

My other option is this. I'm considering purchasing a used satellite dish. You can pick up a pretty decent compact used dish for minimum $$. I have no issues w/ purchasing a used satellite box for which I can obtain a black-market chip with the required filters to capture the programs I want to view. Entirely outside the realm of FCC regulated rules - I could care less.

Fire stick and cube, both Amazon with Alexa ears. Small computer that plugs into HDMI port of TV. Stores programs that allow you to view various services, i.e Netflix, sling TV, Amazon prime, Hulu. Most are monthly subscription, some are free, i.e. tubi, IMDb, crackle. Requires an internet connection of 15mbps or so. Can download application of non approved software for free movie streaming, i.e. Kodi. Kodi is simply a peer to peer file sharing, like Napster. Not very stable and lots of buffering.

Morning all,

So Jim, it appears you and Norm are 'set in Stone?" Most over rated gratuitous beaver shot ever IMO. yeah she was pretty and hot at the time. I think she played well in 'The Quick and the Dead'.

Jouni - There's no problem painting your aftermarket intake to match the engine color. If it's what you want, just prep it for paint and shoot away. +12? Good for you. We likely won't get to +9 today. Funny you should mention Subaru. I have had them on my radar for a couple years. Them and Mitsubishi. The wife likes the new Santa Fe from Hyundai so we'll see how this plays out. I'm the principle driver so I'm going to have about 96% of the say in the purchase. She kinda holds the purse strings and reins them in if she does't like things too much. No worries, I can always go to my own account instead of the joint one if I really need to. Oh, you'll like this - I got an email from Jerome (the skip of the Wednesday team that I've complained about) discussing the next season. I said it was best we look forward to the next season with different teams and perhaps better opportunities. I've put my options in at another facility to curl Tu/We/Th and then perhaps I'll re-enter my Friday team at the Saville. Haven't discussed the option for them returning yet but I'll put out some feelers soon.

Furnace guy is coming to do a tune-up and inspection on the new HE unit today. It's an annual benefit of a low cost maintenance contract that pays for itself in no time at all. Plus all the filters I want over the course of the year.

Hi everyone.

Just got home from work. We couldn't leave early because another department complained that we got to leave early. We still left by 130. I think what it was, we had to wait until that department left early before we could leave.

So at work this week I've been doing the wheel inspector thing. The guy that taught a class I went to, in December, came down to give me an assessment. He watched me run the machine, asked me a couple questions and had me look up a couple quick things on the homepage. I must have done okay because he signed me off to be a Level 1 Specialist. I've always wanted to be a specialist. Really it just means I have to be responsible for a lot more work. Such is the life of a specialist.

Got an email from the Deuce guy. He thinks the truck will be ready to pick up on Sunday. I hope I can find a ride. No word on what it's going to cost me and that's what I really want to know. He said he'd email again tonight.

Jamesbo my screen must be going bad. I can't see a thing.

I guess the secret to having good rust repair is someone who takes pride in their work. And good prep. Now, if you live in a place where they paint the road salt on every year, I think you're pretty much doomed. Maybe a good automatic car wash with the under carriage spray would prolong things. Okay here is a question that I'm sort of ashamed I don't know the answer to. Does salt actually eat the metal, or does it eat the paint and then the metal rusts because it's unprotected? Now, I understand if there are two dissimilar metals that get wet that will cause electrolysis, and pretty much burn the metal away.

So Marc, the Studebaker bro's had their hands in several ventures. Watches, cars, buggies, quite the group. One thing I've learned is never take a non-Studebaker to a car show put on by a Studebaker club. All you are doing is paying for their trophies as someone in the club always wins. Are you about ready to head out to your folks? Safe trip to you. Wish I could help that sounds like a tremendous job.

Allan I'll let you keep your cars at my place.

Okay gonna go get something done. I did jack $hit yesterday because I wasted all my time looking at the internet. Gonna be nice all weekend, I ought to be able to get something done.

Allan, i strongly suggest atleast taking a closer look to Subarus. Then you know if its for you two or not. Atleast here on Finland they have a reputation of being very durable, and at new millenia, no more rust problems than anything else.
Of course i can paint my intake if i want, in fact, only opinion i care about is inspectors; otherwise doing to my liking.
I would just had "copied" it if factory had painted it. Since they didnt, i wont either. Anyways ill paint my engine with oldsmobile gold and not period correct corporate blue. Using POR15 engine enamel as paint.

Currently tasting beer at my favourite chair while wife watches something nonsence from tv..

Mike, thanks for the kind offer but then I'd have a heck of a commute any time I wanted to take one for a spin. Besides, the climate up here is better for storage (cold and dry). I'll be ok with letting the Sonata go. I like the cars features and creature comfort, power and also great visibility. I suspect the first gear clutch pack is starting to slip a little and if I'm right I don't want to fork out any $$$$$$ for a transmission when I cold just get a new car with no worries. Congratulations on being reclassified as a Level 1 specialist. How many levels are there?

Jouni, I understand about the Subaru. I watched a segment on TV about the Subaru production plant in the USA. It's a total zero emission facility and they are totally green with no waste. Everything gets used or recycled. I was very impressed with their build process, even though it's no doubt similar for other brands. I think that was on Discovery Velocity. The Subaru market here isn't as large as other brands either. One of the things that draws my attention to Mitsubishi is their QC is getting very good, and they offer a 10 year bumper to bumper warranty with unlimited mileage. Plus free oil changes. Maybe that's a dealer incentive; I see Honda and Toyota doing the same thing with various services such as an annual complete car detail while under warranty. I'll keep an eye on the market and see what happens. The option is to buy a demo, or a car that's 2-3 years old so the price isn't so bad. Problem is most of the dealers think that a 2-3 yr old car should normally have somewhere around 115-130K km. That's about the time the car is due for major component replacement.

Furnace guy just left and said it's 100%.

A few minutes later the doorbell and Fedex delivered the parts I bought from a member on the site. Pretty decent shipping time - sent Monday afternoon delivered at 12:30 today.

How could my week get any better???? OH, This weekend the World Mens Curling championship starts. It's being held in Lethbridge which is about a 4 1/2 hour drive away. I'll watch it on TV. See??? There's stuff that is broadcast that is just Must See programming in my crib.

Are you kidding me? Mitsubishi offers ( JUST verified from their site) only 5 year/ ~62500mile/100000km warranty Plus no free oils... Tho Subaru is only 3 years / same miles/km's than Mitsubishi.

Dirtiest thing ever said on TV.

Hey look at me I'm still here. Decided after scrolling through facebook for a half hour I needed a shower. So now I'm going to get my ears lowered and stop by the rent-all place. Still planning on changing the oil, for sure today, before it gets dark, and at some point think I'll hit Arby's and get Tiger and I a treat.

Allan I guess my argument of buy American doesn't hold the same water up your way, but would you consider buying American? Doesn't matter where the car is built, matters where the dollars go. Kia is built in Georgia, employs lots of people, but the dollars go overseas. Hyundai is built in Alabama, same thing. Actually I think you need a Silverado. Might have to add on to the garage, they are about 22 feet long. Built in Michigan, and also Oshawa. Even better.

We had a TV commercial here in the 70s, Whoopty doo for my Subaru!

Okay gotta go.

350hp/400lb-ft, 6-spd, inverted struts, 4-wheel posi, giant brembos, 17x8 forged wheels... what’s not to like?
