Inline. I know what you mean about neighbours. At the new house I've only got one neighbour and he's ok, then it's a mile or so before anyone else. As for my life being near perfect, I wish it was. My life is way too stressful for my liking. Too many employees, too many woman (workers, not my own) and not enough free time.

Jamesbo - fair point.

Nice day today, weather is chilly but very sunny at the moment, which is good as I have a bit of building work outside today.

Mike. I didn't know you had an amphicar, any good?

Elsie's on her way

Mike, What ever you do don't use that welded wire crap.I did once and regretted it

Inline, I used to have only 2 neighbors within a 1/2 mile of me but it's growing p around here. I hate it

London, The way I get the phone to ring [some one needs to buy a lot] is a] Go out of town to the mountains b] get out on the golf course. If I sit around here no one ever calls

John, any luck in the mountains?

Had a swell road trip to pick up the new GS bumper in TN yesterday, and stopped at Biltmore (2nd home?) for lunch on the way home. Rain held out until we hit the road from Asheville to Hiawassee, at which time the skies opened up and didn't relent until well after we arrived back home in GA. Mike, you'd have enjoyed the old farm implements on display in the "farming" area, consisting of a bunch of (very nice) barns and some (live) animals. Somewhat reminiscent of Dillard House, but we didn't get too close to the animals themselves this time.

Here's a pretty cool old Fordson tractor with steel wheels that had been used on the property back in the late teens and '20s. Had never even heard of Fordson before.

Clint, hope you pull out of the slump.... sounds as if you might be beating your head against a brick wall lately pharting with personnel issues. I hope it's not worse than that, and that it ends now!

Happity (Ash) Humpity, Olds friends.

Hi everyone.

Seventy Nine degrees when I woke up this afternoon. Yippee! But it's going to be 40 tonight wth.

Clint go kick up your heels, that will make you feel better.

London I've had an Amphicar for a long time. They are a lot of fun. Had it out on the lake I live on and a woman watched me drive down the boat ramp and thought I was trying to kill myself. Lately the car has been sitting all but neglected. I've started taking it apart for restoration.

John I think Fordson turned into New Holland. I could be wrong on that. I didn't know Biltmore had all that on the grounds. Now I really want to go. Where did Vanderbilt get all his money, railroad wasn't it?

Jamesbo I'm building a wood privacy fence. A wire fence would be done before it was put up.

Okay Night 2. Happy Hump Night everyone.

Cooler this morning

Strangest thing lately, when I'm awake, I want to go back to bed. When I'm in bed, I want to get up Weird

Mike, I'm gonna vote for a ramp on the wall so tiger can go for a ride in the Amphi straight out the back door

Inline, Your economy with words is thunderous

Clint, Cheer up, "Nothing difficult is ever easy"

A guy from the VA wanted to come by yesterday and ask me a few hundred questions about running a green cemetery, Said the government is gonna build a veterans green cemetery in Colorado. Maybe I'm on to something

Jamesbo. those wise words are deep. I'll have to ponder that this weekend when we are at the hot springs.

Mike, Inline, thats what I'm gonna do.

John it's a sad state of affairs when you can't get anyone to even apply for a jab. but it may just be a time for change.

Have a Thursday

Clint,
I know of a great candidate for your employ-- My son.. He is wanting to learn more for mechanical work and wanting to be a mechanic both Gas and Diesel.. If he were a little closer to your location I would recommend that he come..Not sure that my 19 yr old would want to move to Colorado.

Kwik mernin', all... dropped dern near 35* from yesterday a.m. -- it's 32 right now in da' hills.

Jamesbo, no -- in fact, our latest prospect was over on Ash Wednesday and today I await the financial impact statement from him (estimate). I'm bracin' myself.

Mike, that's right... George's dad really made (or initiated) the family fortune. There's more at Biltmore than I could ever hint to here... It really sucks you in... and only having been there twice now -- and being a born critic -- I'd say it's a 1st class operation. I heartily recommend everybody to go! LOL We became members, so we have access to the place for a year. We're planning on going back at least once whenever we're here until the thrill wears off. It's 2 hrs each way, and it's thru the most beautiful mts. of NC; so that part is a no-brainer.

Clint, pain is a fabulous teacher. I'll keep you in our prayers.... you may be on to something there.

Whelpt, have a great one, Olds buds.

morning to all. back home again. Medicare will pay for 10 days in the hospital, then they kick you out. home from round 2, it sure gets old after the 1st day, besides keeps me from working on the Delmont. I need to remember where I left off on it. Anybody have any suggestions? had thought about tackling drivability issues first (i.e. kit carb, tune up, change filters and fluids) Then check out front suspension, and put tires on it.
What are anybody thoughts?

Have a good one, and remember any day God lets you wake up is a good day.

Hi everyone.

Cold as a mother last night, and promises to be colder tonight. Might have to break out the jacket. Don't know why but it always seems way windier at the airport than anywhere else.

Golden glad you're back home. Hope the doctors cured you before Medicare pulled the plug, so to speak.

Didn't know you could become a member of Biltmore. Equally surprising(to me) is the Taj Mahal has its own website.

Well night 3. This week seems to be a tad better than last week, but it will be real good once it's over and it's the weekend. Time for Tiger to go out and then get ready for bed, and me to get ready to leave.

Have a good evening everyone.

Good Morning.

Friday it is. Today ill go to garage to get my back to wheels again. Yesterday it was melting snow so that i had to do snow-work 2 times to get all the "slosh" out of walking-ways.

Jamesbo - Better spare, you never know when you need them
What is Green Cemetery? Not a "normal" cemetery?

Oh well, tomorrow to fiancees parents. Have a weekend everyone!

Like Mike said, chili

Don't tell him I said this but the reason the wind is so bad at the airport is cause there aren't any trees to block it

Golden, Glad you're on the mend, I'd take it slow, most parts don't get up and walk off the floor. [I've left some on the floor for years]

John, Congrats, Maybe Ash Wednesday will bring you some luck [and I'll have to find a new punching bag]I'm Feeling kind of privileged to be on the same forum with some whose a 'Member" of the Biltmore House, Do they let cha sleep in any room ya want to?

BTW, I just found out the "beagles from hell" are coming to the mountains this weekend. Got any spare rooms for an old friend

Inline, Here's a link to my website telling you more than you probably want to know about green cemeteries

http://miltonfieldsgeorgia.com/

There will be a pop quiz later on cemeteries so study hard

Inline, That's because [at least in the U.S.A] the funeral business has been taken by giant greed ball corporations that want you to spend [and bury] a lot of $$$$

And it's totally unnecessary [end of shameless plug ]

Geeze Louise,

Don't get me started on colleges. IMHO they are doing a great deal of harm to students by continually raising tuition just because kids can get student loans. The more they can borrow the more the tuition rises but when the kids get out of school, they've got a tremendous dept load and the schools still need more money from their alumni

Wow, all kinds of fodder for ranting & raving today (colleges & cemeteries)!

Cool one in da' hills.... Jamesbo, come by to avoid the hounds of hell. Hate to tell you we're having fish sticks tonite, though...

Mike, it lets you get on the grounds during their open hours, take any tours they give, and gets you 20% off on all the food and goodies sold at the estate. If you go even three times in a year, it's much cheaper than paying a la carte. Example: we paid $51 each just to tour the house the first day ($40 for the tour and $11 for the "electronic tour guide" !!!). Membership is about $100/person/year; so it's not like taking out a mortgage. If you're not a member, you can't even get on the grounds unless you buy some sort of tour ticket. During "regular" season, there is a minimum of 5 or 6 different tours you can take.

Whelpt, the new wall guy came back out again today 'cause he said he fergot to get a vital measurement. If I judge his general work speed on the time to get me a written estimate, he & Tony might be "kin" (as they say up here) (in N.O., it was decades before I ever heard that word used for the first time -- I had to figure out what it meant when Jed & Granny kept repeating it). So our new guy "Kenny" said he'd have the written proposal by COB Monday. We shall see. I have grave doubts, but maybe that's just my nature.

OK, y'all have a great weekend, Olds pals.

Evening all.

Quiet day today, had a meeting with my architect to discuss my wish list for the new place and that's about it.

Watching lethal weapon (the series) first episode, not sure what I think so far.

I haven't got any rants about colleges or cemeteries so I can't join in there.

Not much planned for the weekend though I'm off to an architectural salvage place tomorrow in search of a few goodies.

London weather changeable.and a bit chilly.

little frost on the pumpkins this morning

Headed to the mountains

John, I LOVE fish sticks. When I was in grammar school we had them every Friday AND back in those days they were made with real fish not these ersatz
fish sticks I find in the grocery store lately

Good luck with the wall. I feel for ya.

London, Maybe when the construction begins on your new project, you'l have more to rant about. But I hope not

Mike, I bet it was as cold as a brass bra in Alaska at the airport last night

GTG Wish we luck with the beagles

Good Morning everyone. Sun is shining, and few degrees minus. Nice weather outside.

So.. Yesterday we visited whole day at fiancees parents, from awakening to straight to bed. Was a fun day, and we heated sauna even there. They were excited to hear that were getting married this summer.

Today Morning, when i woke up, first thing to do? Go heat the sauna!
Sauna at Morning is second best thing in world after sauna at evening

All in all, im at really good mood. Really good sunday for everyone!

Greetings from the kennel

The pack of hounds have now increased by 1 to a total of 3. Since that's not enough, we needed to add my friend's sweet Golden Molly.

Red Dog wants to take a chunk out of hound number 3

Molly and I are now hiding out under the bed.

Will report back soon

Good morning everyone.

Been a couple days. I have circulation problems in my leg and Thursday night it decided to flare up with a vengeance. Left work early, called in Friday. Stayed in bed most of two days straight. Poor Tiger. He was very patient with me. He kept himself busy by shredding pretty much anything he could get ahold of.

Well I'm tired of being tired. Things don't slow down for a sickie so I need to catch up. I haven't eaten anything since Thursday. Gonna give Awful house a try and see if I can do anything around here. It will probably work out to the Jamesbo method, do nothing then rest. Was supposed to meet John and Better Half for lunch today, but I'm surely not up to that drive.

Okay have a good Sunday everyone.

Definite frost on the Hiawassee pumpkin as well this morning; 'twas 29 around 7 a.m.

Jamesbo, I'm going to add that video to my Youtube watch list until I can get somewhere we have some bandwidth I can play with. We're stuck with the hotspot here in the house. Sounds like a riot! Wish you, Molly, & Red good luck with that evil #3. And BTW, I love a good fish stick as well. When I was a kid, I "invented" putting a slice of Swiss cheese to melt on top of 4 sticks... I was in heaven.

Clint, what up, dog?

Inline, congrats! Have you set the actual date? And as Dr. Laura (don't worry if you've never heard of her; 2/3 of the folks on this side haven't either) might have asked, does the lucky bride have her ring yet?

Mike, hope you're on the mend. There's always next time (and we can add Biltmore to the list next time).

Mernin', all.... a bit cloudy and dank in da' hills. Tomorrow's spose to be a washout, so we're gonna' get our long Jackrabbit Mountain hike out of the way today.

Mike, hope you keep making progress. What you have there is no picnic... and to pour salt in the wound, I shudder to think of your driving home last Thursday and not even remembering the trip. Kinda' like blacking out --> one false move could really mess up an evening. Makes me think thoughts of horror -- yet gratitude -- regarding my younger days.

Jamesbo, glad you survived. We didn't have the fried okra in your honor, but next fish stick I bake will have your name on it.

Inline, send us some pictures when you're trying on your dress. (Congrats, tho'!)

OK, no Clint again. Gonna' have to turn up the heat on those prayers...

Y'all have a great week, Olds pals.

Good morning everyone.

I actually feel pretty much back to normal but my leg hurts like a mother. I'm gonna see if I can get into the doctor this afternoon after I take the car in to get service. I actually did make the Awful house yesterday, at 730pm. Like I thought, I did nothing and rested all day.

John the drive home was a horror house. Luckily I didn't really experience it. I've made that drive so many times I could do it in my sleep. Evidently.

Clint I hope you feel better soon. The point of vacation is to feel better, not worse.

Jamesbo an omelet would calm me down, too. With mushrooms, peppers, and mozzarella cheese.

Okay gotta get something done before my hour trek to the dealership. I don't know why I thought it was a good idea to buy a car an hour from my house. It isn't that far, really, just a pain to get to. About 800 red lights and no direct way to get there.

Have a good Monday everyone and thanks for the well wishes.
