Hey Inline, thanks to the weather gods our wind is now blowing from your part of the world and it's damn cold. Down to -5 tonight, but still no snow just a biting wind.
Going shopping now. As I've lost quite a bit of weight my jeans keep slipping down. Lost 4 inches off my waistline.
No probs, we can pass you guys some more fresh air
You should actually forgot all the dreams of buying house from Spain, you should invest for winter-time cottage from Finland
Youd get the sauna too with it!
As Pooh would say, Happy Windsday! It's blowing like a mother out and cold as can be. But this weekend it's supposed to be nice. I'll take that.
Some friends of mine bought a VW Vanagon camper waterboxer in Alabama, and are having trouble getting back to Florida. They called and asked if I knew of a place they could take it. He said coolant is leaking when he decelerates. I looked up a couple VW repair shops around them, and said if they don't work out I'll go down and help them. They're a couple hours from me.
Clint what does she say when she finally shows up? Forgot to come to work? Alarm didn't go off for days? Didn't feel like it?
Night 3. I'm afraid the blustery day is going to turn into the blustery night. Eh, I wasn't the guy changing a tire last night when there was a huge downpour. Have a good night everyone.
Mornin all. Mike, Jamesbo. She texts me when she doesn't show up. Sometimes several hours after she is spose to be here. And it's always a different excuse. The latest is she fell last Thursday night and hurt her leg. But when she saunters in late it doesn't seem like it phases her at all. I don't understand.
Spose to hit 76F today but with that comes the winds. They just reopened I70 west of here to the big rigs. they still don't recommend travel since they are having over 100 mph winds up over the passes.
Okay guys. If ive understand correctly, at some point at this thread, you guys were sharing cooking-recipes. Was it so or not, id like to share mine.
This one is almost "traditional" food at here, but almost forgotten, mostly due to the time it takes to make it. So join and enjoy!
God does it taste awesome? Second best salmon ive ever tasted, and it was done by myself, not by restaurant.
Okay. Lets do it.
1. First, buy salmon, half of it, or filé. Then add spices to your liking one night before of making, and put it to fridge to wait.
2. Then on second day, take it out of fridge. Nail it to wooden board ( recipes usually call for board made of tree which has leafs; i did it from pine, and as i long as i understand, its really more of a tradition to do it on tree with leaves) with wooden nails ( carve them with hunting knife or comparable) through the fish.
3. Do campfire. Correct distance from fire ( from every place ive read) and just experienced it to be correct, is so that you can keep your hand 10 seconds there without burning it, play the distance back and forth according to this. Take some beer with you, youre gonna sit there for a while.
4. Various recipes call for ~1,5 hours to do it, but i kept it there 2 hours to be sure its ready. It wont burn no matter how long you heat it, just be sure its not too close. If it starts to show sings of burning, move it farther away.
5. During the cooking, brush it with some of the following, or one for your taste: salt-water, vegetable oil, beer, conjac/brandy. Reason is to keep it moist, and second is to give it one last touch of taste.
6. Serve as you want.. We had good white-wine and potato with butter.. Yam...
Did i say already it tasted heavenly? Oh my... Im doing this again!!!!
Wow that sounds like too much hard work.
I wonder if I'm the only vegetarian on this forum!!
Not sure, but im almost sure meat-eaters are playing the major role there
I like vegetable foods aswell, im not so strict as some are. Some tastes really good.
Mornin', all... Cool last nite, a bit warmer today. Today's car (and truck) washing day, mostly to take advantage of the gorgeous out-of-doors.
London, I'm an omnivore... kinda' like Inline; me likes me veggies, but me likes me ani-mules as well. I guess most vegetarians do it for moral or ethical reasons rather than for health reasons; but I haven't arrived at any of those yet, and don't see it in my future.
I can see a lot of the negative aspects of big farming, including animal abuse (big time) and environmental degradation and transportation of the "goods" across vast distances.
So I keep telling myself to buy more local foodstuffs that have been raised and harvested a bit more humanely and less greedily -- and more sensibly. And I do it to an extent (with local produce, as well). We've actually been eating quite of venison hunted within 20 miles of home (including sausage, roasts, back-strap, etc.).
But one stumbling block of vegetarianism for me is the concept that animals are essentially equal to us humans. I can't go there. We humans have too long a history of hunting and gathering. It ain't murder.
To be a good steward of our resources is one thing; but there's room for stewardship and meat-eating in a reasonable person. Better half is a big bison fan: ground bison is super lean and has a fantastic flavor. You usually pay thru the nose for it, but it's a tasty alternative treat to cow-beef now & again -- especially on the grill.
As for the time & trouble factor, having been an amateur chef most of my life, I've found that the rewards of the meal are usually proportional to the effort put into it. Iffin' ya' want to play, you gotta' pay -- whether at home or at a restaurant.
But that's just me. In any case, that salmon looks fabulous, Inline!
Umm that link doesnt show anything? Just asks you to log-in.
But from description; sounds delicious.
I have to admit; its just few years before that i heard about coleslaw; and i love it.
103 Etiqueta Negra. I think ive found my favourite brandy from price-range of " drinkable" brandys. IE; which you can afford to drink more than one snap per week. Or maybe the problem is i dont earn enough?
Bee-Oh-Pee - I completetely agree with you on " you get what you pay for/ you get as much as your willing to put effort to it" thing.
My fiancee would eat mostly vegetables without me; but shes not so much vegetarian that she would do two different kinds of food for us. Sometimes we eat just vegetarian food due to that, and its fine for me. Just like its for she to eat meat. Shes not completely vegetarian tho; red meat is "no no" for her, but white meat goes by some amount, and fish is totally eatable for her.
I only became a veggie when I went to an slaughterhouse twenty years ago and I have never eaten meat or fish since, but I don't preach. Each to there own whatever you want to eat. Must admit though it's really difficult travelling around the states as they don't cater too much for me, there's only so much salad you can eat. So much easier in the UK being a veggie. My wife is also veggie but the kids eat mostly white meat.
We still have a weather system coming from Scandinavia so it's damn chilly with a few snowflakes in the air, mid to high 30s.
So much for shopping yesterday, massive shopping centre and guess who loses his car keys. Took two hours to retrace my steps till I eventually found the keys.
As my house purchase has fallen through, I've come up with another plan, so I'm going to be building a house on a piece of land that I've had for years, gonna be a busy year.
Beautiful day out. Gonna be nice tomorrow. And it's Friday, can't get much better.
Thanks Clint. That's a nice looking car. Not a big fan of that car in white. If it's a W30 and not factory, is that what a Track Pack is?
No way I could ever be a vegetarian. I mean, just look at me. One of those guys with the freezer in the back of a pickup knocked on my door one time. He had a great deal on chops and steaks and what all, and I said no thanks I'm a vegetarian. He said, ya you like it.
My friends did okay with their VW. They found a shop and said it was just a bad oil cooler, not a big deal, and they still got a good deal on the vehicle. So the trip took an extra day, no big deal. They are campers anyway, they probably grabbed a blanket and slept under a tree.
Okay running a little late. Hope everyone has a good weekend.
When it comes to food I'm a lil'more. A lil'more of this, a lil'more of that, before ya know it, I'm gettin' kinda fat! Clint I don't see much documentation on that '67, is there more that I am not seeing? Mike the Trac Pac was when you ordered all of the W30 goodies over the counter, and had the dealer install it. I'm not sure if that included self installation.
Saturday. Sauna. And gonna do that fish again cause it was sooo good.
Nice way to spend whole day. Besides, its beautiful outside again, suns shining and not too cold.
Inline, Jack Danial's distillery used to sell planks made from their charred oak barrels for cooking steaks on. Ya had to soak them in water and your steak had a bourbon flavor to it
FWIF, I'd starve to death if I had to eat tofu
In the south we cook our veggies with so much pork they don't qualify
I just ate. Same stuff than yesterday, just from sander, and two filéés this time.
Spiced with lime and salt, and brandy. Oh my..... Was wonderful!!!! Theres even left some , to eat after sauna. Just came to make you guys hungry
Morning Gents!
Time to pull the tank , sender is clogged.
Be careful when dropping it Johnny. Being a Fremont car,
it may have the build sheet on top, under the rubber pad.
You'll want to try and preserve it if possible. Good luck!
Kwik Saturn Day mernin' -- got the F-150 and the Fusion warshed (as they say in Maine) yesterday, & took a little jaunt in the Vette just to get the oil flowin'. Unforunately, I got my first little windshield "star" on I-12. It's not bad, so I'm going to bring it to Safelite on Monday and see if I can get 'em to fix it. The Vette windshield with the Head-Up display is its own animal (roughly twice the price of standard); so I dunno what they're gonna' tell me.
OK, so it's warsh the Avalon today and then start the repair on the Yamaha that I dropped last month... I think I'll need a bit of luck for that.
There used to be a place in the N.O. CBD called Mike's on The Avenue (it was on St. Charles Ave.) that had the salmon on an oak plank. It was to die for.
Better half made a venison roast in the slow cooker yesterday using coffee, believe it or not. Was pretty good... couldn't taste the coffee, but gave the juice a dark brown "roux" appearance. Will be delicious on French bread (I'll refrain from calling it a po-boy this time).
Got home early and couldn't get to sleep. I was laying there thinking, I should just get up, when all of a sudden it was 10o'clock. Hm. Not a bad night at work, not a terrific one.
London I'd love to have a house built. I've always heard it's a colossal pain in the neck, but how cool would it be to have everything just the way you like it.
john I couldn't tell you the last time I washed a car. The water restrictions have changed I'm not sure I know when I could do it. I'm sure if I chose the wrong time my neighbor would call someone to come educate me.
Jamesbo I'll be in Roswell this afternoon. Is that anywhere close to you? Not that it matters, I'm leaving after I'm done here and won't see your reply. Hm. Yet another reason to get that damn phone.
And speaking of phones, who knows anything about T Mobile. I heard I can text while I'm flying and also get an hour's free internet.
Okay I'm off and running. Have a good Saturday everyone.
Work's been keeping me busy lately including extra hours. I've also been under the weather for a while now, but finally went to see my doctor and starting to feel better.
Took the aftermarket mufflers off and poured a litre of water out of each one. Drilled a drain hole in each one. The vibration was still there so back to the dealership. This week they replaced the dual-mass flywheel. Haven't driven it much since so I don't know if that was the solution or not.
Good luck on the house build London. Will it have a big garage? I would have liked to build one but not an option for me at the time. Maybe next time.
Mike, the description of your night at work sounds like my week. In the end not bad, not great.
Mike, you are right, it is a pain building a house. This one I started eight years ago but it was turning into a money pit. This is actually what's known as a barn conversion. The barn and surrounding buildings were first constructed around 1510 out of huge oak beams, it's a good size, about 6000sqft. But if you can imaging that rebuild costs are around £800 a sqft then it does work out expensive, however I have had a bit of luck with some land that I applied for planning permission for so one should pay for the other.
Car designer- On the plus side, there is loads of room for cars and a triple garage and three acres of land. On the minus side half an hour less in bed every day as it's further from my work.
Quiet day today, out for lunch with daughter and grandson.
Umm slantflat - I pay 15$ month for phone operator, which provides me unlimited internet usage and 300mins of calling and 300 text messages for that price.
Mike, Whatcha doing in Roswell? Let me guess looking at another car
I need to swing by Casa Depot on the way home and pick up another sump pump. My old one went Tango Uniform and I got a leak in the farm house basement wall.
Had poke roast,[the other "white meat} fresh beets, scalloped taters and a salad last night.
Sixty degrees already. I like it, though it looks like rain, I wouldn't like that.
Jamesbo I was going up to meet someone. Gotta tell you I'm not a fan of Jimmy Carter Boulevard or Holcomb Bridge Road.
Wow London a 500 year old barn? How awesome is that. That's probably commonplace to you guys over there. We obviously wouldn't have anything that old here.
Well Awful house and then I got some rearranging to do at home. The lake is coming back up and I don't think I can do any more work. Oh well. So have a happy Sunday everyone.
Mike. I wouldn't say 500 year old properties are common place but they can be found. I'm going over in the next week or two so I will put up some 'before' pictures if you are interested
Got my sister and my niece over today. I'm doing grilled salmon, chicken with chilli and garlic and a nice avacado salad. Not easy as my sister is in a wheelchair and it can be hard work. Rest of the day will be taken up watching football.
I went to the Pet Day at Petco in Roswell yesterday to see a boy I had seen on the internet. Wow what a beauty. He's one year old, very loving, and playful. The foster parents brought him over this morning. He doesn't know what to think about the new digs yet.
I wasn't going to get a dog because it was too traumatic losing two dogs within three months. But the house was so quiet and still. Almost eerie. I couldn't stand it.
This one will need a little training. First thing he did when he was in the back yard was chase some ducks right into the lake. Where's the luck. Most German Shepherds don't like water, I picked one that does. I hope I don't have to jump in and swim after him every day.
