I see that they are going to be building De-Loren's again, a run of about 300, by the people who bought up all of the nos years ago. New federal rules allow boutique builders, w/o having to meet all of the federal crash standards. They are looking for a modern powerplant (one required fed law) to stick in them. Sticker will be $100k.
Just got back from the Awful house. I did better than yesterday, I didn't get home until almost 2. Sometimes it's nice to just hang out and talk.
John are you asking if I'll go back up there to live or just to visit? I doubt very seriously I'll ever go back to live, as I'm not a fan of arctic cold and feet of snow. I need to go up and visit, since I don't have family up there anymore I don't get up there.
Clint that sucks about the identity theft. Hope you catch it quick.
Sunny today but cold, it's windy out. Might go check out the shop and see if I can move some things around. I'm fighting off a cold that I think I must have gotten from John, so my activity will be limited. The only cold medicine I have is Nyquil, and if I take that I might as well pack it in.
Well have a good Friday everyone, the weekend awaits.
Yes sir. Caught it fairly quick. they first applied for credit on the 24th. At this point it looks like a little over $10K worth of purchases at this point. I was able to stop the car loan before approval. Along with several other accounts. I wonder what kind of Mopar I was buying?
Well, we dug out of the 26" we got last Sunday. It was close to 50 on Tuesday and Wednesday so most of it is gone already.
I did some research on white letter tires and I decided to swap out my stock 14 inch rims due to limited sizes. I have a set of 15" Olds Rallye Wheels and I'm going to buy a set of Mickey Thompson Sportsman Radials, 235/60 R15. I've seen some limited but good reviews on them. Anyone here have personal experience with them?
Clint - Sorry to hear that you were a victim of identity theft, hope that you don't have to deal with too many headaches from it.
Darrell I don't envy you digging up all that snow. When I was a kid I would tell my Mom, why shovel it will melt eventually. Didn't work.
Clint, I'd say that since the crook wasn't actually paying for it, it was a Hellcat.
I saw that about the DeLorean. Hope they don't choose the Northstar. Are those even being built anymore? A small V8 would be real nice but there's limited room back there. I'm pretty sure the original motor was a Volvo V6.
Time for the Awful house. Gonna clean up around the shop today. It was the dumping ground for things like tires and old TVs for years. I can't stand looking at all that stuff.
Mike, no worries on the Northstar as it isn't being used anymore. You are right with the Volvo power, something like 135 hp, that's why it needed the 1.21 gigawatts to get moving.
Gee, I'm loath to claim the worm at 10:30 CST... what gives?
Clint, did you have to duck for any bullets? That must've been quite a scene. Did it affect y'all at all? Thank goodness it seems to have been combined to the bikers at the expo.
I'm going to do a rain dance and wash the cars today. We'll see how long I can keep 'em dry once they're buffed off. More fun than going to parades. ;-)
Sunny and warm out. What a nice day. The coldest month of the winter is done so it can only get better.
John I haven't washed a car in months. My fleet is dirty as can be. Seems every time I'm off for any amount of time rain is here and it thwarts my efforts. A couple of the cars need a good coat of wax, so after the pollen season is over I'll get right to it.
Good luck tomorrow Jamesbo. This the first time you've golfed in awhile?
Well it's my Monday. Not feeling it. I've been fighting a cold for the past several days, I may need my neighbor to make me some of her magic soup. Hope everyone has a good start to the week.
Mernin', friends. Froggy & muggy in da' swamp, with very mild temps. Rain tomorrey and drop in mercury. How surprising.
Whack 'em good, Jamesbo.
Just as well, Dan. Hadn't tasted worm in a while. Hope y'all are keeping yer noses above the snow.
Darrell, what is your project? Are you using local wood as a building material?
Mike, hope you get better... It took me a week of sitting on my **** and taking better half's remedies in the warmth of home; but maybe I'd have been better off getting out and working. BTW, I was taking (generic) Loratadine (non-drowsy antihistamine) and I think it helped me a lot during the day. Only 1 pill per 24 hrs. (That wasn't part of better half's regimen.)
Well, we've had a warm spell for a few days, with temps in the high 30's to low 40's, and most of the snow is gone, lucky for me, that system hitting Clint will go North of me and dump it's snow, not so good for my sister 75 miles Northeast of here.
Nice, nice day out. About 70, sunny, good day to sleep. I think I've discovered the secret to sleeping well after work. Alcohol. Took some Nyquil when I got home this morning and slept good all day long. Not sure if the dogs wanted me to get up at all, I was really out. Felt good.
Thanks John. I don't usually take medicine, so I don't know anything about what's good. I stick with the old standby, Tylenol. And now my new favorite Nyquil. For my next feat, I'm getting a hot tub and then when I get sick I can just boil it out of me.
How'd you do today, Jamesbo?
Okay night #2. Last night wasn't too bad. Hope that continues. Happy February everyone.
Hey everyone. 50's and mostly sunny here. Quiet day, just work and a doctors appt. Went for my once every three year physical, lol. So far I passed with flying colors but I'll have to wait for the blood test results to come back.
John - I'm redoing a bathroom. I am putting up chair rail, wainscoting, crown moulding right now. Tile is next.
Mike- night #2? Do you normally work the night shift?
Mernin', friends. Kwik worm. Jamesbo must still be on hole #19. Elsie upon us, and will likely remain so 'til tomorrow morning.
Caught a rock on the Vette windshield yesterday and de-virginized it with a nice star chip. Called Hagerty and they said it was 100% covered. So nice to hear a "yes" from an insurance company for a change! I had Safelite come to the house and they did a swell job on it. Can still see a spot, but it's 75% better and no chance of spreading now (or at least the guy said). The windshields for Head Up Display are about 2X more than a "regular" windshield. The guy said a replacement is about $800, so that's good news.
'04 -- the last C5 -- I had bought barely a year before the Great Flood. It was spared the waters by parking it on Level 8 of a Downtown New Orleans parking garage before we evacuated. The "rub" was that I was unable to retrieve it (or even see it) for months afterward due to the owners' absence.
When I finally was able to access it, I found that all the cars up to Level 4 had been vandalized and looted.
I've mentioned it numerous times, but it's prolly been lost in all the other BS I post about...
Sorry "The Goat" made an appearance.

We made a special trip there before evacuation.... just to store it out of harm's way, theoretically.... I knew we would get SOME water... didn't plan on 7'. Wish I could have towed the (red) GS there!
Friday. Seems like it's been a long week. Last night was the second in a row working on this particular A319. We changed an engine, and the one they sent us was set up wrong. So it had to be replumbed. It also had a bad start valve. None of us had ever changed an engine on a 319 so we were all thumbs. Just finished it up as turnover came out this morning, so that was a good feeling. No telling what's in store for tonight.
Yes Darrell I've worked midnight shift for the best part of 22 years. A short stint on dayshift when I first moved to Atlanta, and a couple years on second shift, which I loved, but in hindsight it wasn't the best two years of my life. I've been trying to change departments for awhile now, so if I'm successful maybe I'll have enough time to hold dayshift.
John that's quite a story about the Corvette. Why did the vandals stop at the 4th floor? Odd that you wouldn't have chosen to take the GS first. I know, with a short time to react, how do you decide anything.
I'm actually starting to feel a bit better. My mother's old remedies of Vicks VapoRub on my chest at night really do work. Though I'm now out of the stuff. I happened to see the date on the jar, it said it expired in 96. And that stuff is good forever so it's hard to tell when it was actually bought.
Okay. Gotta hit it and quit it. Gonna storm in the morning but by the looks of things outside it might get here early. Have a good night everyone.
Evening everyone. Another warm one today so when I got home from work I finished cutting the wainscoting. Next is the crown moulding, my favorite, especially when there isn't a straight wall in the room.
John - that's some story about your C5. I must have missed that story if you said it before. Burglars must have been out of shape that they could only go up 4 flights of stairs and no further.
Glad to hear that you're feeling better.
Mike - I've always admired people who could work the midnight shift. I'm a night person but I would not be able to do that. My sleep patterns would be all screwed up. Hope it hasn't affected you.
Elsie came during de wee hours but maybe she blew thru
Not to belabor de point but John ya got my curiosity up
So you [and I guess others] had a flood plan? Did the guy who owned the parking deck let people store cars there for emergencies?
Mike, much to my pediatricians horror, when I got the croop at my grand mothers she made me eat a spoon full of Vicks. Believe it or not it werked like a champ
BTW I think it's like Velveta it really never expires
Man did we get a lot of rain this morning! This was at the airport. It was a monsoon. Drove home with bad wipers, the traffic was slowed to about 40. Got home and nothing. Just a little drizzle. But then it started here and you couldn't even see out the windows. Nothing now but holy cow.
So work. Spent all night in the aft bag bin repairing floor panels. My knees have had it. We made two fiberglass panels and one aluminum/composite floor panel. What a pain. Looked good when we were done.
Darrell I can transition pretty well from sleeping during the day to sleeping during the night. In the airline biz it isn't a question of whether you want to work midnights, it's a question of whether you can hold dayshift. Everything is done by seniority. If I stay where I am I'll be able to hold dayshift when I'm in my 50s, but other people who hire in later in life, like from the military or other career, will never see dayshift.
Jamesbo I guess the stuff can't hurt you if you eat it, I mean it absorbs into your skin so the end result is the same. Don't think I'm gonna try it, though.
Guess I'll figure out what to do with the rest of the day. The lake looks like ***** Wonka's chocolate river. Oh what happened with the groundhog yesterday?
We had a deluge last nite as well... tornado warnings went off around 7 last nite, but nothing really close, thank goodness.
Jamesbo, not much else to tell... No, it wasn't any kind of "special" or anything. It was just one of those lots where you push the button, the ticket comes out da' box, and da' arm comes up to let you in. We actually took the lowest spot in the garage that looked "safe"; i.e., where we could park without cars on both sides of us.
I'm not sure why the looting stopped on the 4th level; but it could have been that the cops, National Guard, etc. popped in while the looters were still moving up in the garage, in mid action?
There was obviously a lot of stuff in some of these parked cars, and clothes were strewn all over the floor of the garage. When we were on our way up (walking up each ramp), we had a collective lump in our throat, wondering what the Vette would look like. Then when we got to the 5th level and saw it was unscathed, we began to breathe just a little easier... and the car was untouched, just as the guy on the phone had said.
Aat that time, the car only had about 2,000 miles on it; it was just about a year old. Wish we'd have taken pic's or movies, but that was the last thing on our minds at the time. I had called the parking garage (I was in VA at the time for work) almost every day, once phone service was restored to the area (it was weeks before that happened fully). The guy finally answered some time in September. I told told him over the phone that it was a black Vette on the 8th level, and he said just come on down and drive it off. I didn't even know if he was going to try and charge us!
It was a happy day indeed to drive it over to my parents' home in Metairie, where Dad loaned me the garage (he had quit driving a year or two before that). It stayed there 'til I had the garage built at the Plantation in 2010. And that's all, folks!
Here's something I don't think I've ever posted: here's the house as we bought it in '05 (but taken in 1/10 -- right before they broke ground for the garage), and the house after the garage was built the following month.

Sun's out and the temp is holding fast at 40. Hope it warms up because I want to work outside today. Everything is a muddy mess but I don't care. Really feeling cabin fever.
John that's a nice looking garage. Is there an upstairs to it? I'd have one about that size if I'd clean it out. When are you hitting the road?
Dan what did the doc say? What was your crash?
Time for the Awful house. Got squat done yesterday so gotta make up for it. Have a good day everyone.
John, Dat's a great story, I never would of thunk to take my car downtown to be safe. Glad de dude didn't charge ya for the extended stay.
From de little I know about de Katrina disaster Everything was pretty FUBAR. It's nice to hear a happy ending.
Mike, I have a lotta days dat squat don't get done but an ole farmer friend of mine used to say, " There will be plenty of werk left when we're gone. Yep, he's gone and there's plenty of werk still left.
Not sure why I think dis is kinda funny but I had the honor to be a pallbearer at his funeral along with sum "real" farmers. One of dem had lost an arm in a farming accident. So we're gett'ing line up to take Pierce to his final resting place and the guy says," Sorry but I gotta be on de right side"
Welp GTG Have a great day Olds friends
Mike, got to get x rays this morning, and then wait to hear back (I would prefer a follow up). It goes back to '82 when I cracked up a '76 Vette, I believe that I posted pics of the car here a couple of years back.
London, Don't envy your selections Try sum cilantro. It kinda taste like fescue to me.Or ya could do like Chic fila done. Kale with broccoli [ the cole
slaw and carrot salad with raisins and pineapple was better but they made a turn for the healthy. ]
Please don't ax why your spose to have healthy stuff with fried chicken but it makes sense to them
Welp gotta head out to de stow den to de mountains
Morning, got to make a dish to pass for the Superbowl tailgate luncheon at work tonight. A few layoffs this week, including non exempt salaried, a well regarded engineer from my plant, a couple of supervisors, and a plant manager.
Mike, I'm hourly and have enough seniority not to worry, most of the laid off were hired in 2014-2015, they are hourly also, but I still have a couple hundred under me. We have orders through 2019, but I believe (just my guess), that due to the split of Alcoa into two companies, that they are trying to make the numbers look good to investors/shareholders etc. In 2014, when we were hiring hourly to keep up with demand, they laid off techs and supervisors worldwide "because we have too many employees". John, I'll try not to overindulge too much, but a person's gotta eat!!
So I went out to work on the wagon and decided I should go get an alternator first. I go in to the local Advance Auto, put the alternator on the counter and say, 1970 Vista Cruiser, 350, air conditioning. The guy goes to 1970, then goes to Volkswagen. It isn't listed he says. I said, it's an Oldsmobile. Then he looks up air conditioning. I said, this is an alternator. Then why did you say air conditioning? I said because if it didn't have air it would be different. I told him he should know these things if he works at an auto parts store. So then someone else had to come help me. I worked at an auto parts store once. The first question the manager asked me when I went to interview was, do you know anything about cars?
Dan not long ago we had a big laying off of managers and merit people. The company said it was to "right size" that job description. Odd that as soon as they were done those same jobs were on the bid. Most of the guys walked out got jobs back on the floor or in shops, and some said screw you I'm retiring. We couldn't figure out if it was a cost saving measure or getting rid of people who were not yes-men. Some of them didn't have but a couple years.
Well I've done more this afternoon than all of January combined. Got the master cylinder cleaned up and ready to put the rebuild kit in it.
So my buddy in de mountains FINALLY got a new truck after his frame rusted. I jess gave him a new set of 235 75 15 fer Christmas Don't cha think I could run dem on my Vista Cruiser. It now has 225 75 15
Jamesbo I have 225-70-14's on mine. I don't like the look of the 15's on a Cutlass or a wagon, they look too stuffed in. The 235's you gave your friend would fit in back but the fronts would rub when you turned. I have 225-70-15 on the front of the convertible and they rub.
John, I'll try not to overindulge too much, but a person's gotta eat!!
Man, you is preachin' to da' choir, there, Dan! I put away the groceries with the best of 'em. (Just axe Mike or Jamesbo.)
'Twas a definite nip in da' mountain air last nite at 27*. Spose to be the same tonite. The outside thermometer had crapped out when we arrived on Wed., but I cajoled it back to functionality. It only took me about a day.
Went to the dam yesterday and had a brisk walk, and we're fixin' to go to walk a few laps around "the lake" this afternoon. Fixed a slab o' poke ribs when we got home last night, along with a baked ziti, which were both nothin' to complain about. Leftovers tonite, which is great by me.
Mike, sorry to hear of the lame-o's at Advance. You can consider this an endorsement: I've found in the last 10 or so year, that Auto Zone has consistently had more parts, more helpful counter people, and more guys who have a semblance of a clue than all the others. They're my first choice for anything I need at that type of parts store, whenever they're an option.
I've been hunting a numbers-proper alternator for the GS for the last few months, mostly on eBay and the Buick V8 board. I've pretty much given up on having a concours-correct date code as well; so I'd settle on the correct number (which is 1102448, BTW). There ain't a lot of 'em floating around no mo. Funny how 55 amps used to be a lot.
Whelpt, I think I'm gonna' start pullin' early for Peyton.
Where's Clint?
Y'all have a warm one, Oldsmofriends.
