Hi everyone.

Nice day out. Don't know if the rain is gone or what.

Allan I'd need that second job to do maintenance on those cars. Older European types don't age well sometimes and parts are expensive. What I want is something easy to live with. People can ride along. Gets fair to decent mileage. Not a nightmare to work on. Not freakin' ugly. What I really want is another 70 Cutlass 4 door.

Got the rest of my tune up parts put in the van. And now it doesn't run as well as before I started. Didn't have time for a lot of troubleshooting, so next week I'll go back through it all. I don't know if this is a wives' tale, but a couple of the ignition wires are touching, maybe they are getting their signals crossed. The factory looms are long gone so I need to find some way to separate them better.

Dan it's easy to get down the stairs. Sit down and scooch. Of course coming back up might be a little challenging. Crawl up on your hands and knees maybe. When I hurt my foot years ago the nurse wanted me to use crutches. I wouldn't. So to get around the house I'd be on my hands and knees. My dog loved it. I just had to tread lightly when I was out somewhere.

Work tonight. Not looking forward to it. I've been working on a scheme where I'd sell auto parts online(I'd buy out a vendor that's been in business 40+ years) but it doesn't look like that's going to work out. I really want to do my own thing. Gotta keep at it something will pop up.

Okay gonna head out a little early today. Need to stop and pick up a part for the van on the way in. Hope everyone has a good weekend.

What exactly is 'doesn't run as well as before'?? Does it stutter, not start, shudder?? Hopefully you didn't cross your plug wires and put 2 on the wrong plugs or not seat the wire boots onto the plug tips? That would sure do it.

Are you actually looking for another 4 door 68-72 Cutlass? Like this >>> 71 CS HT Sedan in Bittersweet lower, white vinyl and Sienna interior? Suhweet!

I did a copy & paste into my address bar, looks to be a very nice car, not much for photos though. I don't care for the 4drs too much, but that is a nice one.

Mornin,

Bought a 1956 Merc 100 PU yesterday. An older fella spent 10 yrs restoring it. He passed and his son did not want it, so I bought the truck. I have a feeling the old fella is smiling, cause his kid was showing no respect towards it.

Allan, why was your son hesitant to get his DL? Are the fires subsiding?

Clint, I see Texas is flooding!

Show today, takin the w30. Maybe I will win something

Have a day friends

Good morning everyone.

Worked with a new guy last night, he talked all night long. Yam yam yam yam yam he just wouldn't shut up. When I would feel my ears start to bleed I'd walk off for a few minutes then come back.

Actually Allan I had a 4 door sedan in mind, but I wouldn't kick a Supreme out of bed for eating crackers. And of course I'd want a 70.

I was thinking, maybe the van runs the same, but I can hear it better with the doghouse off. I guess I was expecting it to run like new. One thing I did see was there is no idle adjust screw. I can see where one used to dig into the flat surface, but there isn't anything there now. But there is a spring-screw going through the linkage and touching absolutely nothing. Now I can't imagine why that screw would have been moved, but I think I'll try putting it over where it should be, maybe a bit of an increased idle will help it out.

Ted, that sounds like a nice pickup. I don't think we had Mercury pickups down here. I can't understand why the son wouldn't want that truck, even if he isn't a car guy, it's something his Dad liked and worked hard at for a long time. Eh, so much for heirlooms these days I guess.

I see Denver is on the bid. If I didn't have such a deep footprint here, like John says, I'd seriously consider it. My best friend lives out there, and I'd have an ace mechanic to change fuel pumps for me.

Okay off to bed. Hope everyone has a good Saturday.

Hi all. Working a show today in NYC at the Roosevelt Hotel. Left the house at 5am to be here by 6. Hoping to pick up a few new accounts for the business. We'll see, it's been slow so far. So much for the early bird, lol.

Sammy - congrats on the new ride. good luck at the show.

Clint - I had my 63 Riv rear bumper rechromed and the 85 Riv front bumper (from the accident. They only had to replace it no dents to fix. I didn't unwrap the front bumperettes yet but they did a great job everything else. The ROA meet is in St. Charles,IL this year from Jun 30 thru July 3rd. Would have been great if it was by you again. Was fun eating barbeque with you and the misses.

Alan- those are some nice cars. My dad had a 79 Mark V till the mid 90's, it was built like a tank.

Mike- I don't blame you for wanting another 70 Cutlass. The new German stuff is a nightmare to maintain once the warranty is over.

Mawnin all

Beautimus day shaping up. Still breezy and cool but no real moisture till mebbe next week...sigh....

Jim, yer MIA agin. Wutchu up to in de mountains?

Mike, that is a sedan, just it's called a hardtop sedan. The one you're used to is the town sedan which has pillars around the glass. I like the look of the HT better. There's really not much difference between 70/71 except the front clip. Why would you be stuck on only one year?

Dan, putters are funny beasts aren't they? 88 meelyun now. Hoping to get to 100 meelyun before July.

Darrel, good to hear the chromers did a good job.

Ted, congrats. Mercs were cool trucks. I remember them well, stable mates to the F100 which was a real popular truck. Sorta the same storyline as Dodge and Fargo trucks. WTH! No pics? Have fun at the cruise. Honestly IDK what happened to his motivation, could be the thought that I would give him the Saturn?

John, hope you're not doing anything that hurts the shoulder. You still in de mountains or back at de plantation?

Hmmm lawnmower going next door cuttin down the foot high weeds. About time.

Ok, koffee time. Enjoy your day courtesy of Saturn...

Been awhile since we heard from some of the others like Scot, Adrian, Gerry, Terry......

Sammy, post pics of the truck. I believe Mercury trucks were Canadian market only. I wouldn't mind an old pu, I think that they are cool, and I would have no problem with one with the original drivetrain, no need for a crate motor. I used to get rides in early 50's Chevy PU's by my ex-under performing brother in law. The trucks stuck with me, he didn't!!

Hi everyone.

My girl just would not leave me alone today. I even got up to see what the weather was doing. Bright sunshine not a cloud in the sky. Must have been someone shooting a gun or fireworks. For awhile my boy was into the act. Finally got to sleep unbothered and woke up at 430. I don't like the feeling of running late.

Allan I suppose I favor the 70 because that was my first car. I do prefer the burled look on the dash and the square lights in front. Maybe if my first car was a 71 or 72 I would be thinking differently. I've always like VWs. I had a lot of air cooled stuff when I was younger but I know a VW mechanic and he said don't buy one out of warranty.

Dan I think I ran off a girlfriend because I said I had to go home to get my dogs rather than spend another night with her in Boston. Well, I said it nicer and it was the truth. If I would have stayed(I already had been with her a few days in New York) then the dogs would be stuck in the kennel an extra three nights because I wouldn't have gotten home in time to get them before the weekend and work. It worked out for the best because anyone who doesn't like my dogs doesn't belong with me.

Okay off to work. Night Two is upon us. Have a good night everyone.

Hmmm, my first car was a 67 Cutlass Town Sedan. Compared to the 72 Cutlass S I have now, I'd rather have the 72. To each their own I suppose. Now if the first car had been a 67 442? Might be a different story. Hard to pick an outstanding favorite out of all the ones I've owned.

Good morning everyone.

Gotta love the planning people. They loaded five or six things on the airplane for us to do tonight and they were all on Number 2 engine. So one thing got worked on and the rest turned over. We did a few other things on the plane and stood around a lot.

Ted that's a nice looking truck. Are you going to do anything to it or just enjoy the heck out of it?

Allan it almost sounds like you're saying I'm wrong for liking what I like. I get that a lot from people when they find out I like Corvairs, too. I don't mind. Corvairs and 4 door Cutlasses are two of the hobby's best kept secrets as far as I'm concerned.

Hope I get to sleep a little more today. Friday tonight. Gotta remember to leave early again so I can stop and fill up the truck. June 1 sees a 30 cent tax hike to a gallon of gasoline in Georgia. Might as well save a few bucks now. It won't make a lot of difference to anything but it will be a few bucks the greedy, conniving State won't get.

Okay good Sunday to you all.

Mornin, Cool here today.

Car show was small but fun yesterday. I had the only Olds there!Had a buddy bring my Merc over and I floated a 54 chev 1430 dump for a friend....lots of fun.!
the merc is a mod. it is sitting on a 1989 Cougar with the 3.8.
Dan, all that wiring is from the donor...hope your recovery is going well
Mike, it is a driver! My wife wants to paint it a sunset orange, but for now it is a cruiser.
Allan, where were these trucks built? Oakville?
Darrel, is the Riv on the road?

Elsie came for a visit last night about 02:30. Brought Thor with her. They partied for about half hour and moved on. The ground loved their performance.

Ted, looks interesting. What's the drivetrain?

Mike, I didn't say anything of the sort. You're reading too much into that. If 70 is your year there's nothing wrong with that. I just happen to like a wider variety of years and maybe models? Good luck with the search for the 70 town sedan. There's got to be one out there waiting for you.

Dan, I was out at de market the other day and a clerk came whipping by doing something in a hurry. Then I noticed he had one of those cast boot things on his foot. Seems like it's a pretty stable and comfortable 'running shoe' when ya get used to it!

Jim, I perfer not ta have exes dat keeps de farm. Guess I'm one of de lucky ones dat still gots de same missus almost 23 years later. Yeah she's gots some quirks, but so do I.

Going to the greenhouse later to pick up some liatris for the flower garden. The old ones apparently couldn't take the last winter and went Deep South. De missus was saddened by that so this is a surprise.

Koffee and take de boy to work time.

Allan, I assume that means you got rain?

The truck had a lot of work put into it and is a dream to drive. Still not the same as an olds, but as my wife exclaimed it is cute. I still have the feelin that the old fella is looking down and smiling because his project was saved. Apparently they are desirable...a fella told me he sold a 56 body 2 weeks ago for 8000$ . Really?...seems like a lot for an old farm truck

HeHe ...notice the 54 in the back .....it came from your part of the country!

I was told by the doc. that although the boot has a sole and treads, do not put any weight on it, when it goes back on June 10th, maybe the rules will change a little for me. It is more comfortable and stable than the cast in my opinion, though more bulky, and harder to get out of the way of my left foot when driving.

Ted, yes we got some rain but could still use a lot more. Some of the satellite communities are talking about water rationing. Brian also has a stock 54 that is on his radar for restoration. Low miles and bought off the original owner IIRC. It came with the original BOS and documents. I don't think the body quote is the best indicator of what your truck is really worth. I'm on the fence about whether it should be stock or resto because I see the values and opportunities either way. You'd have no trouble selling that ride here in AB. This is truck country. I'm happy that you found the truck and have adopted it.

Dan, it was just an observation. With luck your foot doc will approve you for a slim line race track model. A Hellcat? Heck yeah I'd love one of those too! Prolly couldn't afford gas for it though. It would make a nice stable mate for the deuce wouldn't it?

Hard to believe how fast this week has flown by.

I went and looked at the Littlefield Hellcat (on the web that is) and it appears they only did a resto of the outside. The interior was left as it last saw battle which I think is a fitting tribute. The one in your link has all the interior redone too so it's likely a different tank.

Hi everyone.

Typical day of sleeping. Got woke up a couple times but otherwise didn't do too badly. Friday tonight.

Dan once I thought how cool it would be to have a Sherman. Then I looked up prices and thought, maybe I could do without one. Hellcats are a little more reasonable. Too bad the gun doesn't work.

No Jamesbo today. Must be wall fixing day on the lake.

Got a spot of rain this afternoon around 3. The dogs were upset but seem to be calming down now. It's supposed to rain more tonight, so they will no doubt trash their room. Hope we don't have rain like we did last week, every damn day.

Okay headed off. Gas station and work. I wouldn't mind another early out but I see I have a bad lead, not to mention it's his Monday, so chances are slim. Oh well. Take it when I can get it. Have a good night everyone.

Good morning everyone.

What a miserable night. The first half was spent getting rained on, and the second half was just annoying because what we worked on just wouldn't work. Turns out it was something somewhat related that dayshift neglected to tell us about.

Beautiful morning right now. Rain is supposed to show up this afternoon. It will probably be my alarm clock.

Jamesbo try as I may, I can't figure out what those words are on the side of that car. Doesn't look like Eighty Eight, doesn't look like Eighty Five. I wrote to GM and they sent me a bunch of pictures and none of them are any better than that one.

Gonna hit the sack and if I'm lucky get something done this afternoon. Have a good start of the week everyone.

Jim, we also know who's gonna go whack whitey ever munday, likes to contemplate his navel, teaches chebbies what bollards are, dislikes beagles drum hell, is a TV star, fights city council on principles, an has a supermodel. Did I miss sumpin?

Clint, sounds like a fun weekend!

Ted, he hasn't lost the goal to get his DL. Just he's not wild about inheriting a satuRn.

Mike, sounds like the turnover forgot to update their notes?

Been lucky enough to get some rain almost every day for the past 3 days. Not much for duration but at least 15 minutes at a shot. Some of the neighbors are just too lazy to water but at least their brown yards are starting to green up a bit. Nice sunny 70 today.

Fresh koffee awaits.

Dan - that's on de eyepad. It's not really that big. The secret is keeping all the numbers going left/right and up (or whatever combo of that works best). NEVER down or you're screwed. I've been playing this game since around July last year I think...

Hi everyone.

The rain doth cometh. This would have been my first opportunity to go to the Summit Monday night cruise. Makes me mad. What happened to those nice years when we didn't get any rain at all?

Jamesbo if you pm me an email address I'll send you those pictures I got from GM. I wonder if someone smarter than I could enhance them and get more detail.

I'm seeing blue sky. Maybe it isn't raining at Summit.

Mike, I tried to find some info pics online for the Olds version of the Corvair, and looked to see if the GM Heritage Center had anything on their site, nada, hard to find anything.

No luck finding the name of the Oldsvair, but I found this Olds site. www.outrightolds.com
