Mornin. All,

Sorry Jim....I have to answer Allan's question...it takes 9 trees 12" Diam 16ft long to make one bush cord. Okay, back to more important things like golf

I thought a peck was 1/4 of a bushel?....and a song by Doris Day that my mother would listen to all the time

Safe journey Mike

Mernin', All.

Whelpt, I'm missed da' whole weekend here and certainly da' worm. Lookin' dark, dank, and damp here in da' Swamp today. Spose to be one wet week without relent 'til Friday or so, best the prognosticators can tell.

I think I'm done with the firewood. Want to get me a propane insert before next year and toss all the firewood. The GA fireplace has us spoiled.

Mike, when is Aussieland scheduled? I thought you would be gone by now. BTW, I think those old big Dodge and Ram vans are some of the best vehicles Chrysler has ever made. Can't seem to kill 'em... at least the 318s.

Saturday, we went to the Ponchatoula Antique Trade Days and Craft Fair downtown, which was real nice. We spent about 6 hours down there, after eating breakfast at a little place. Picked up some stuff we could have done without, but ya' gotta' support the local economy. They call Ponchatoula "America's Antique City," but they took it on the chin in '08 and '09 during the slump. A lot of the places closed and didn't reopen. But it seems more are now opening up, so we're encouraged.

Clint, that's always been my motto: "If you can't bag a guy's groceries, sell him nightcrawlers!"

Jamesbo, that "doorbell" story is a hoot (now). Bet it wasn't no fun when it happened. I remember taking off in a car when I worked at the car wash, with the gas nozzle still in the filler neck. One of the worst days at work I can recall as a kid. (I was 15.) I guess we were lucky nobody was smokin', 'cause there was gas everywhere.

We used to sing that "bushel & a peck" song when weez wuz kids.

Scot, for some reason, I can't open that embedded thing you posted on Friday. Better luck for me next time....

Darrell, hope you had a good visit with the pup yesterday.

Ted, you got yourself a mill there! I'd say it's da' "deeeluxe model" alright...

As Chicago so eloquently once said, "Does anybody really know what time it is?" I keep havin' to look. Still have to change the grandfather clock, but I'll do it later.

Y'all have a great day, Oldsmofriends.

Hi everyone.

Had the disappointing lead last night and got home at 730. Eh, they can't touch me for 11 days.

Got my travel authority in my email this morning. What a relief. It takes the place of a visa and I didn't apply for it until last Saturday. Don't know why I didn't think to do it before then. I leave tomorrow night.

Gotta make copies of stuff and get a few things, so I'll see you all later.

Ya'l are right 4 pecks to a bushel. I was stuck think'in but Claudine's pair

Ted, I was gonna answer de tree question but thunk it depended on de diamater of de trees. Thanks,I'll try to remeber dat one along with how many sq. ft /acre and number of feet /chain

John, Gald ya like de door bell/ garage door story. Ya know it's true cause I could make dat kinda stuff up.Kinda like my wonder Pauline Bernadette Prevot
Story from New Iberia.

Mike, Dis may sound stupid. But wouldn't it make more since and be more efficient if every crew werked as a team insted of getting different leads Evey other day.

Jamesbo we used to do that. There are several leads every night because we have several airplanes and if we only had one lead he wouldn't be able to sit at his computer and surf ebay as much. Or sleep. So each lead is assigned two maybe three airplanes. There are usually around 30 guys at work each night. We used to have crews that stayed the same. We all had the same days off. Some guys didn't like it because they were stuck with a bad lead.

On the surface a bad lead is one who won't let us go home early when we finish our work. But it's much more than that. A bad lead is one who won't order parts for us, or look up maintenance manual references. They say that's our job, never mind that it takes us away from the plane and it takes longer for the work to get done. A bad lead also looks for ways to hang us out. He will also be unavailable when we need a decision made that we can't make, and then be mad when work stops because of this. All this describes probably 90% of the leads. What gets me the most, is every one of these leads was a mechanic and complained about this very stuff.

When we had dedicated crews we knew who was strong in some areas and who was weak in others. We knew how to help each other when we got stuck on something. Very few times were there conflicts. We're all adults and professionals, and for the most part get along pretty well. One day we got some new manager who didn't like it, and that's when we started the different people with different leads every night. Don't you just love when someone who doesn't know their head from a hole in the ground comes in and starts making arbitrary changes. Our department turns out an enormous amount of work, and as is typical, the more we do the more someone expects. It's very political. We've lost probably 20 people in the last two months. Everyone is fed up with the BS. We aren't getting people to replace them. The management is like an ostrich. They stick their heads in the sand and refuse to deal with it. I can't say for sure what other departments are like but all indications are this is standard for Maintenance in general. It's a wonder we get anything done.

Now what was it you asked me?

Evening everyone. Felt like summer here today when the temps hit 50! Snow was melting at a pretty good rate, it looks like a foot of it melted off our back patio. Another two days of this and we'll start to see the yard again.

John/Sammy - the visit with the pooch was good. He seems to be adjusting there pretty well with all his new friends. He was very happy to see us and of course it was difficult to leave. I certainly miss having him with me in my office when I'm in there working. I took some pictures and I'll post one or two once I get them loaded on the computer.

Well, have a good night all.

The day has finally come. Got a couple errands to do then it's off to the airport. Why do I always have so many errands?

Nice day here so far, gonna rain later. I hope the spring and summer aren't as wet as the winter was.

Ted does the blade on your machine actually explode from time to time?

Darrell I'm glad it's working out with the pup.

Okay gonna head out to the Awful house, come back for the dogs, run my errands, head out. Might try to check in later. Have a good day everyone.

Mornin all.

Mike hope you're there and its probably tomorrow already.

Jamesbo, none of them were near as enthused about getting into the wifes underwear as I am. Wait. that didn't sound quite right. Lets just say they were as happy to get those off as I am Nope. I think you know what I mean.

Spose to be about 70 today. Still have piles of snow everywhere. but the ice dams are mostly melted.

John, the missus keeps telling me she'd be happy bagging groceries compared to the crapola we've been thru this year. I tend to agree with her.

Have a humpday all. gotta go order some seat covers.

Mernin', all...

Mild, damp, & dank again today. We have at least another day of this, if not two, before we dry out.

Tragic news this morning about the 4 National Guardsmen who are missing and presumed dead after their Black Hawk crashed near Pensacola last nite. The Guardsmen are based here in Hammond, and 7 Marines based in Camp Lejeune (NC) were also in the chopper.

The victims' names have not yet been released. I know one of the Black Hawk pilots that are based in Hammond well, as he's a member of our church. Has 4 kids and a wife... I'm hoping and praying it isn't Wayne. This blasted fog all along the Gulf Coast might have had something to do with it. God rest all their souls, whoever they are, and I pray their families are consoled and are able to carry on. Here's the story, and I'm sure it will be updated all day today.

Clint, there was a certain therapy involved in baggin' those groceries way back when. Sorry your businesses make y'all think like that... and too bad you can't really raise a family on bagger's wages. The worst part for me was that back then, people could smoke like trains in the Winn Dixie if they chose, and the customers puffing in the checkout line could almost make me sick. Never a fan of the 2nd-hand smoke.

Whack'em good, Jamesbo.

Time to break the fast... Y'all have a great Humpity, Oldsmofriends.

Good evening everyone.

Spring has made a brief appearance up here. A few days of above freezing temperatures and the snow has been melting nicely. Unfortunately, starting this weekend they are predicting 5 days straight of snow

Just stopping in for a quick Hi.

Paul good to hear from you.

John those were different times. I still like the smell of smoke as long as its fresh. I think I always will. I'm super glad I quit all the tobacco tho. Wouldn't go back now.

Allan, I ordered 2 rows for the Wife's taco. and then I ordered a digital camo cover for the Hoopdee (Toyota plow truck)

Jamesbo. I think they would have enjoyed something a little more lacy so they could see. They don't mind the full face flymasks.

Another nice day today then rain tomorrow. The wife got the horse trailer sandblasted yesterday. I hope she gets it covered up or to the paint shop today.
The Datsun finally left yesterday. What a project. The car sure impressed my tech tho. And he's a Sprint car guy.

No way Dan. I'm not mocking you at all. Actually I'm really amazed I'm at that level myself. It's one of those games that just keeps on playing so I'll keep giving it a go till I tank. FWIW I believe I've been playing this round since August?? or so. My son is betting that I'll make it past a year but as the top rows fill it gets a bit more tricky especially when the tiles are numbered in the 5 and 6 digit numbers. I currently have 2 in the top row (separated of course ) that are over 1,000,000! If the updates are annoying you I'll stop posting them?

Today at curling practice, everything went really really really well. My draw weight is in my back pocket, even after making upweight shots. I have determined that if I need to make 'normal or peel' weight shots I really need to use inturn because it does what I want it to. For some weird reason (prolly my release) the outturn 'normal/peel' curl like crazy and I get up to 3' of curl where I should get only 1". I'll go with what I know for the last game on Sunday. I'm looking at next year already and there's a few leagues that look really promising; Wednesday and Friday morning Senior leagues in addition to both Sunday Open 1 & 2 leagues. Cost is pretty reasonable too at only 115.00 for 10 weeks. Of course I'd be looking for the extension to curl 20 games in each league, and with practices 2 times a week that should keep me hopping all next winter.

Ted, c'mon over anytime and I'll run you through some beginner drills that will make you look like a seasoned pro when you start next season! In return you can promise me I never have to operate that saw of yours....

Aloha everyone.

After a giant exercise in futility, I'm back home. We left LA on time and about an hour out a passenger fell ill. Then came the dreaded announcement, if there's a doctor or nurse on board, ring your call button. A few calls back and forth to Atlanta and some medical outfit that governs things like this, we divert to Honolulu. The idea was we land and deplane the sick passenger, refuel, then get back in the air.

After we land it was discovered that by the time we got to Sydney, it would be the middle of the night and Kingsford airport closes and no one lands. By the time we could land the crew would be out of time. So we stay in HNL, they tell us it will be a new flight number and at 11pm we'll depart. This doesn't make a lot of sense to me, but they didn't ask me. A couple hours later they cancel the new flight and rebook the [paying] passengers on other airlines. At this point I, and the few other non-revs, are completely screwed.

So our plane has to get back to Atlanta. They add an extra section for a non-stop HNL-ATL that left the same time it would have for Sydney, and I arrive in ATL at 2 this afternoon. I just talked to one of the guys I became friends with, who was traveling on a buddy pass, and he made it back to LA and will start that leg over, arriving in Sydney on Saturday morning. If I would have done that I would have gotten there pretty much in time to start coming back home, and I would have missed entirely what I was going there to see.

The silver lining was that I spent the day on the beach with two very nice people that I became friends with, and on my return got Business Class with the lay flat seats and slept a full 7 hours. My neighbor saw the van back home and thought I had cracked. The wife said, you might as well stay for dinner. I tell you she really takes good care of me.

So I purposely didn't pick up the dogs. I was thinking, heck, I still have a week to go on my vacation, so I might as well go somewhere else for a few days. But in the car, though. I've had it with airports for awhile. I'll probably go down to see my Mom.

I'll catch up here and unpack and see what's what. I'm pretty disappointed that things turned out this way, and that it cost me 260 bucks for a plane ticket I won't use flying SYD-MEL, but as is typical in aviation, when there's an emergency, all bets are off. I heard the guy had had a heart attack. Hope he got better.

Good evening everyone.

The temperatures are dropping again and the white stuff is forecast. I guess I shouldn't have gotten too excited about spring.

Mike, sorry to hear about your trip. Take the Mustang for a drive, that should calm you down! Hope the passenger was ok.

Clint, that engine doesn't look factory ok, I might be a little behind in the posts.

Have a great Friday everyone!

Paul - sorry to hear. Today I was out front chipping some ice build up on the front walk. It's close to 17" thick in places. Not a darn thing to do but let it melt now thanks to how the City has plugged the drainage by putting windrows up against the sidewalk. On the + side, the temps here were 13° here today and for the next few days we might even get as high as 17 or 18!! Woo hoo. Gonna fire up the blower and shoot all the front yard snow out onto the street. Might be one way to keep the dang snow mold away??

Mornin all. Mike that sure is a bummer.I'm sure your mom is happier about the situation than you are.

Paul, one of those 'over the winter' projects to fill any dead time. things have been a bit slower than usual the past month. But looks like its starting to pick up now.

Allan, Yes. lots of extra room, but nothing really to put up there. He needs a cowl hood to fit an air cleaner, and really needs a much better exhaust than the little cherry bombs that are on there.

Rained last night and is still in the 40's smells good. Hopefully the part for the washer comes in tonight. Need to get some laundry done.

Have a friday all.

Gonna be a wonderful Friday everyone

Took out the pressure washer and got the car cleaned up yesterday afternoon before heading out to pick up de boy. Let him drive on the way home and darned if he didn't hit most of the puddles I would have missed. Sure is nice to no longer be hostage to those coin op car washes for awhile.

Today I'll pressure wash the drive and then go around back and do the deck. Grilled rib eyes last night and boy were they good.

Clint, chery bombs? Why waste money on those now that he has some real muscle in there? You gonna source out a nice system and install it?

Mike, so much for not hitting AH for a week Huh? Bet they'll be glad to see you back.

Jim, how'd that billyboinger thing turn out? They willing to commune in yer dirt?

Dan, thanks.

Don't think it's time to change over from winter tires quite yet. The weak end beckons, enjoy your day.

Uh, yes and no. The only thing that I can figure, is that the apocalypse is coming, that and the American FBI agent sucks at his job.

Hi everyone.

Ah, what a good night's sleep. I stayed up until 1245(read that, I slept on the couch until 1245) so I could see if my friends got out of LA, then went to bed. Woke up at 730 thinking, where are the dogs? Then went back to sleep until 1030. Oh how nice it was! I sort of feel like I sold out the dogs but I'm leaving again so they'd have to be there anyway.

I'm going to go see my Mom for a couple days. Paul it will be a nice ride for the Mustang. Mom just had eye surgery for a detached retina. My sister will be there helping out with the household. It should be a good time.

Jamesbo what is Providence canyons? Also, do you know of some place called the little Grand Canyon? Is this the same place?

Think I'll take in the Awful house for lunch then get going. I need to swap cars around to get the Mustang out and put the van back. It's raining. Hope it's nice in the pan handle.

Have a good weekend everyone. I should be able to use the internet this weekend, I mean, it's not like I'm in Australia or anything. See ya's.

Afternoon all!

Haven't been on in forever! Just thought I'd pop in for a minute. Lots going on around here, I'll have to get on my laptop and fill you in.

Question.... Scot? I know there was a discussion about this somewhere once.... What kind of paint is used on the air cleaner? Is this something that can be bought at Eastwood? I need to know what color black. I want to re paint Teepos and get new stickers. And I want it to be the 'correct' black . Help me out please!!

Been warming up here this week and snow is slowly melting. Expecting rain tonight and tomorrow so some of these 8' snow mounds should melt. It's 55* out now!!!!! Tulips and crocus and daffodils are popping through the ground. Animals are so hungry this year though, I look for the deer to be eating them. Or the rabbits. I've seen a lot of them out lately. Had a stupid raccoon get hi.self shut in the garbage can the other night. He's been coming out and trying to get to the bird feeder I fill with mealworms. I have it hanging from the overhang of the house, right above the garbage cans. I hear him jumping on the garbage cans and when I turn on the light and go to the window, he's sitting on the deck rail and I chase him. Somehow he got in the garbage can though, and was thumping around inside. Larry came out and tipped the can over and he ran out. Dumb thing.... everything is hungry. Black birds are back eating like pigs. Robins are here. Haven't seen one yet but hear them singing. There is hope for Spring! I want this snow to melt so I can decorate for Easter. It's early this year.

Well I'll check in later. Have to read all the posts!!!

Good evening everyone.

Today I was between projects at work so it was nice to have a normal workload for the first time in over a month.

Now the forecast for tomorrow is a mix of snow and freezing rain.

Nice to hear from you Sandy. Glad to hear the white stuff is disappearing.

Mike, enjoy the time with your Mom and sister.

Allan, think of it this way. You get to enjoy the nice weather washing the car again!

Have a good weekend everyone!

Today (3/13) was my buddies 55th birthday, so I made him a gift box which contained a bottle of Geritol, a tube of Ben-Gay, and a hot water bottle, with a note congratulating him on being an official senior citizen... he got a laugh out of it. His wife, who is in her early 40's, asked "what's this?" while holding up the hot water bottle! She had never seen one! I explained it's use, pre-electric heating pad era, to which she replied, "well, I can always fill it with booze!" Good friends to have.
