The *NEW* Good Morning Thread!
Hi everyone.
Nice trip to Pensacola yesterday. Got a warning light on the Fiat about 2/3 the way here, no noises or smoke so I didn't worry about it. Turns out there's a Fiat place about a mile from my Mom's house so I went in and it was just the oil change light. I keep the owners manual at home or I could have looked it up myself.
Scot I was in the IL Olds club years and years ago. Like 1984. If I remember right it was the Illinois Valley Oldsmobile Chapter.
John I remember when the Pope was shot. He later met with his would-be assassin and forgave him. Funny, I happened to hear Dr. Laura on satallite radio yesterday and she was saying people are crazy for forgiving people if there's nothing in it for them. Good thing she's not the Pope.
Clint I heard about that virus. So far it hasn't shown up in Georgia. I hope someone figures it out before any more dogs die from it.
Jamesbo in the past the best pain relief I've found is Extra Strength Tylenol and Khalua. Not suggesting you try this, just sayin' .
Well meatloaf tonight, chili tomorrow, and plenty of stuff to bring home. It's so nice to spend time with my Mom. She's so much closer than before but I get here so little. Of course it doesn't help that she watches my niece's little boy all the time.
Okay have a good evening everyone and a fun weekend. Gonna be 32 for a high in Atlanta on Sunday. I should probably just stay here.

Mike you are correct and the newsletter is called "Good Olds Days"
They are pretty interesting and even have a few color issues. Jeff Meister's (sp) cars are in several and on the covers of several as well

I'm jealous, Jamesbo... maybe you need to double-up on dem analgesics to help you sleep a little later....
Whelpt, I'm all hung over from da' huge party last nite.... can't remember it, actually ;-) Maybe 'cause to the best of my knowledge, my keester was in bed a wee bit after 9. (Man, I needed that rest.)
Hopefully I can get some stuff done around here today, altho' it's dark and dank. Temp is 61 now, but spose to be fallin' all day and be in the 30s here at the Plantation by tomorrow morning.
Hope your're improving, Jamesbo, and hope Nicole's back is continuing to improve, Sandy.
Y'all have a great Saturday, Oldsmopartners.

Evening All!
Well it started out as a nice day with sun and in the 30's. It has ended up at 19 degrees and has been snowing since this afternoon with cold winds blowin.
I hate it!!!!!
I had to go to Kent this morning for an hour or so. Come home about 10 and fired up Teepo and took her over and filled her with gas. I probably should have driven her a little longer, but there were flurries coming down.
So tell me about tranny leaks. There was only a tiny spot of fluid on the cardboard under her since she's been out there, (I looked under her before I started her) which has been a week, but today when I got back from Speedway, I noticed there was a saucer size puddle on the cardboard and drops on the floor where I backed her out.
Does this leak happen when I start her, or when I put her in gear?
I know one of the seals leak (rear)? I don't remember what Defer told me when I had the pan gasket replaced last year. I really dont want to be pulling the tranny this spring.
It's always something....... Ease my mind and explain, please!!
Larry set up his new 50" TV today when he got home. Jr. came over and helped Larry load our big old TV cabinet in the truck and Larry took it to Jr.'s. He gave him our old 48" TV too. I'm gonna see if Lin wants Jr's old TV stand. Larry had to put together our new TV stand when he got back. I like it better than the old one. It's more modern. It's like oak and wrought iron with 2 shelves and 2 drawers. This new TV is soooo thin! It has a nice picture.
I half a$$ed cleaned earlier and did laundry. Helped Nicole color her hair back to brown this morning, then she went to get it cut. Her back is feeling better, but not normal yet. She only has one pill left of the spasm medicine. I think she's over at Tony's now, I know she had to go to work and walk the dogs tonight. Hope she's careful out there.
I have Bob looking for a set of rims - or at least one rim - for the Intrigue. The one tire leaks slowly and they tell me it's because of corrosion on the inside of the rim. It doesn't seal against the tire anymore. Nicole has to put air in it all the time. Pain in the butt, especially in this weather. So hopefully he can find one cheap, lol.
Well I gotta go take a bath so I'll talk to ya tomorrow.

Hey everyone. Happy Saturday, hope you all enjoying the weekend so far.
Clint - guess I had you fooled. I must have sounded older in my posts.
John - Glad to hear you had too much fun last night. Hope you're starting to remember it buy now, at least before it shows up on someone's facebook page. LOL BTW, I would love it if it was hot and muggy here. Today it was about 45, tomorrow about 30.
Jamesbo - hope you're on the mend. Not sure what you mean when you say "worm". Must have missed the code word.
Laughing too hard right now, watching Blazing Saddles. Have a good night Oldsmofriends.

Morning All!
I'd say worm but Dan was on wayyy early, lol.
Still 19 degrees this morning, snow is blowing. We don't have much snow, maybe 1-1/2". There's the little fine stuff coming down now. Nicole said the roads were bad last night when she came home.
Dan... what gasket are you talking about? The rear seal? Pan isn't leaking. I sure don't. Like it, whatever it is!
Well going to help Larry with breakfast so you all have a good day!

Good Sunday Mawnin All
Yup it is a bit chilly here. Supposed to dip down in the upper 20's tonight
Sandy, if it is your rear seal then all they have to do is pull the driveshaft and replace the $2 seal. But you may also need universal joints as well and they run around $25 - $50 each depending on size. Labor is a different story. Most shops should be able to pull this off in about an hour and Clint should be able to back me up on this. That said you should be able to get this done for around $150 - $300 by a shop. You can check your u-joints by crawling under the car and seeing how much movement you can get out of your driveshaft by wiggling and twisting it around. Hope this helps.
Jamesbo are you ice fishin up yonder?
Whelp it's getting closer to my favorite day of the year Thanksgiving
I simply cannot wait for the big feast

I would think rowing through the gears would tend to accomplish the same but movement would seem best if possible. Also if you can get the tires onto casters helps with dry rot issues and keeps the suspension where it likes to be.
Sandy, like Scott said, the seal at the transmission tail shaft and yoke, I was quoted $600 in 2011 for my '71, but this guy basically wanted to go through the whole thing, not taking no for and answer, so I took it elsewhere, and had it done for about $180.00. My buddy had it done for $ 300.00 10 years ago by that same guy that I first took it to.
Evening All!
Still cold and snowy here, temps in the 20's today, felt like 10.
Had a little sunshine on and off.
Scot and Dan.... Thanks! I'll get a price from Defer on that seal when I get her out there again. I don't know if I'm gonna get the oil changed this year or not, the way the weather is looking. I have an appt. scheduled for Wednesday night, and another one for Friday morning - they are hoping I can get her in one of the slots, lol.
So Scot and Dan.... when is the tranny fluid leaking out? When I start the car or when I put her in gear? It doesn't seem to leak much just sitting there parked. I don't understand....
I checked the coolant today and it's good to like -24 or so.
Jamesbo.... I always put Teepo through the gears and move her forward and backward a little when I go out and start her through the winter. I also turn on the AC and the heat too.
I filled the bird feeders again today - the pigs ate what I put in there yesterday! I'm hoping that huge woodpecker comes back this winter, I haven't seen it since spring. I got my hair washed, finished up the laundry, and tried to find places to put all the stuff I had hidden underneath the old TV stand, today. I didn't go out anywhere. Larry went to Home Depot. I don't like to be out in the cold if I don't have to be!
Brian is off this coming week, so that's nice for me!
It will probably be dead anyhow. I have to make deviled eggs Wednesday night, and a couple pies. Last year we got off at 3. I bought some pies from Brian and Clay's kids that they were selling for school. A french silk, a lemon meringue and a cherry strusel. Expensive but yummy!! They keep real good in the freezer. We just had the Oreo pie a few weeks ago that I bought last November, lol.
Well I better get off of here and start rounding up my stuff for work. You all have a good evening! Walking Dead is on at 9........

When you park it. It sounds like a small leak, as it is saucer sized on the cardboard, it will take very little to get a stain of that size, mine dumped it when parked, usually when I parked it after a drive, the weird thing is, that it didn't do it every time, but when it did, I would have a 3 foot diameter spot on the driveway. I put cardboard down, then an absorbent mat from Cal Car Cover.
Good evening everyone. I hope everyone had a great weekend.
I guess I can tell you why I was mostly absent for the last month and a half now.
In mid-September, I was told that due to restructuring at work, my term contract was going to be shortened and that I only had a job for 2 more months. That worked out to cutting my term in half
Part of the restructuring included creating some senior positions in my group. Even though I had not been there that long, I decided to apply to the competition and see if I could get one of the new positions. After a month and a half, a test and an interview I found out last week that I was successful and now have a permanent job at the same company with the same group. Basically I am doing the same type of work, but am more responsible for my own work and will be taking on projects.
At the same time, a friend had offered to have me bring the Cutlass over to install a 4-wheel disc brake kit and new exhaust. So I have either been studying for the test, preparing for the interview or working on the Cutlass.
Oh, and now the temperatures have dropped well below freezing and the snow is here to stay.
Have a great week everyone!

Mornin all.
Paul thats great news. Congrats.
Sandy, Scot is spot on.
Jamesbo, Yes it is a good idea to move the car back & forth a bit, but it would actually be better to run her around the block if possible. exercising each gear is good for the tranny and going around corners helps lube the rear axle seals and bearings.
Darrell, Must be the white shock of hair in your avatar
Well, It t'was an eventful weekend. Got Old Tommy dressed. Why is it when you make a critter about as nekkid as you can, then you call them dressed? Not sure how to get the blood stains out of the fence
Not ready for this week to start or for turkey day. I guess we are having the feast here at the house. Thats gonna be a lot of people in this little house. Oh well, looks like nice weather. Mid to upper 50's so maybe we can hang outside as well.
Have a great Monday all.

Mornin', all... was 41* at the Plantation this morning with storms abrewin'. Spose to be a wash-out from this afternoon all thru Tuesday, and even to early Wed a.m.
We'll see... but if the stuff TX and the West have had is any indication, we need to brace ourselves... from what I hear, sleet is not out of the question; but no snow threat, supposedly.
Our plan is to stuff a big bird on Thursday and bring it (and a lot of the sides) over to my aunts' place in Metairie on Turkey Day. Better half returns from seeing Mom manana.
Whelpt, y'all have a great Monday, Oldsmogang.

Scot, My South Gawga family allways put blackberry or strawberry preserves on thier dressing cause de didn't have no cranberries in de rural south. Ever heard of dat before.

Brrrrrrrrrrrr

Sandy would Larry do the rear seal on Teepo for you? You would save a good bit of $ if he did. And being that it is this time of year, he'd have all winter to do it.
Paul congrats on the permanent position
That is a good looking bird Clint
Good luck with the crowds on T-Day, I will try and do the same since that same cast of Spartacus is heading here
Have a great day all

Morning All!
Sunny and a crisp 17 degrees here. Supposed to get snow tonight and into tomorrow. Guess the East coast is in for a storm.... Hopefully it will miss us.
Not much traffic on the roads this morning, which was nice. Steve is back, Brian is off. Works for me!! Quiet in here.
Paul.... good news about the job!
Congrats!!
John..... you all be careful! I heard them talking about that sleet and bad weather. I hope you don't get any of it.
Scot... I doubt if Larry would do that.
I'll just save my pennies and have Don Sitts or Defer do it. It may be the front seal.... I can't remember what they told me.
Jamesbo... sorry to hear your accident stuff is going to get ugly. That's not good. Hope it comes out in your favor.
So on my review Steve did, he put in the comments that I am 'capable of doing more sales related things, like estimating and quoting' if I am interested. I don't want anything to do with sales! Nothing, nada, nil..... I think he's trying to get out of hiring a 3rd sales person like the owner told him he needs to do several months ago. I don't want to be that 3rd sales person! I feel bad cause I sit here bored, and Steve gets a ton of quotes - more than the other 2 guys. The stuff they do is soooo complicated! Charpy tests, HIC tests, all sorts of abbreviations that I don't know what they mean.... I can't even read a tape measure, lol! There is never an easy quote here. Nothing simple. And there would be no training here, either. No one has time to train anyone. Steve is gonna retire in 2 years, so he doesn't really care. Just wants to keep going as it is. I told them when I interviewed 5 years ago that I don't want anything to do with sales. I'm not looking to climb any ladders.... so I don't know how to tell him I don't want any part of it....
Well I better check Brian's emails, so I'll talk to ya later. Have a good Monday all.

No rain yet....
Anybody hear the expresion, "It's like waiting for it to rain"? Whelpt, I can relate...

Thanks, Sandy... I hope we're spared any freezing rain, fer sure....
Jamesbo, do you make your cornbread from scratch? Or do you just use Jiffy or Uncle Remus or some such? And is that recipe just for one pan of the bread?
I've always wanted to do a cornbread dressing, but I have the Pepperidge Farm Seasoned Breadcrumb stuffing down pat and it's so good, I just go the "bird in the hand" route. I save up all my liquids from my baked chickens throughout the year and use that instead of water. It shivers me timbers thinkin' on it.... Is it Thursday yet?

John Boy,
I make 2 black iron skillets of Aunt Jemima corn meal mix, brake it up let it dry out good. Sautee an onion or 2 with celery [think cajun triliogy less one] in a whole stick of butter. cook de thighs an chop dem up, Den mix de whole thing in a bowl and add the chicken stock til It's about as thick as as grits. Pour it in a big aluminum pan, pop it in de oven @ 350 til de top lightly browns.

Good morning everyone, for a little while longer anyway.
Had such a nice visit with my Mom. We didn't really do anything, it was just nice being together. Got home last night around 830.
Paul that's great about the job. And about the Cutlass. Four wheel disc brakes, can't beat it.
Jamesbo just be sure the 'Burban doesn't get crushed before things are settled. Maybe you should go fetch it and keep it at your house.
It's 40* here right now, don't know what it's supposed to do the rest of the week. I hope it's nice. I need to get some things done over my next days off to make up for being gone this weekend.
Sandy when I drove my green Oldsmobile years ago it had a trans leak at the front seal. I never did fix it, I just made sure the level was good and had a piece of carpet in the garage.
I'm going to my neighbors for Thanksgiving. His grandson is supposed to come up from Florida with a buddy of his, but might come on Wednesday. No matter, I'm off Wednesday. The wife makes such good food, and I get to bring home leftovers.
Okay gonna go get the dogs and see what I can get into this afternoon. I hate that the dogs have to be alone tonight when I'm at work after being in the kennel all weekend, that's just how it shook out this time. At least they will be in their own home and not on a cold concrete floor.
Have a good day everyone.

Thanks, Jamesbo(y). I might give that a try, but I'd prolly just have to do it in my miserable aluminum cake pans.... we still haven't replaced the cast iron skillets that we relinquished in '05.
Hope you have a good Morris Bart or Michael Hingle (the quintesenntial chasers in our neck of the woods). Sorry to hear it will turn into a battle, but if they want to up the ante, that's their decision. When are you buying another vehicle?
Congrats, Paul!

Er... OK.... Thought you needed it for your bi'ness.
As fer the skillets, I'd be a delighted recipient; perhaps you'd like my snail mail address
? Or perhaps we can rendezvous at end of year -- I hope to be up in God's Country for at least 2 weeks in the not-too-distant future....
Y'all have been threatening to come see the place.

Evening everyone. Another cold on here today, expecting heavy rain tomorrow evening through Wednesday. We really need it but still not looking forward to working in it.
Sandy/Clint - I guess no one is safe when the Govenor's around. Poor Martinez, what a way to go. All he wanted to do was hit some golf *****.
Clint- guess I would really mess with your head if I make my avatar my favorite picture of Jessica Alba.

Jamesbo - hope that since you're writing more posts that it means you're feeling better.
Well, have a good night Oldsmofriends.

Mornin all.
Darrell, That may might just make you quite popular here on the site.
John, I have a bog ol irun skillet tucked away that the missus just wont use. We got her some white ceramic ones, and she just seems to love them.
Mike, If yer plans fall thru, you're welcome to fly on up and help us with ol Tommy. Hes a big ol bird and there's gonna be way too much food. We dunked him in a cooler full of brine last night. Usually she sticks them in a 5 gallon bucket, but he doesn't fit. Still has about 1/3 of him sticking out.
Not sure he's gonna fit into one of them oven bags.
Scot, I have to go get the 'Holiday cheer' tonight. This year i'm getting a bunch of different Bombers. Not sure how many will partake, but whatever is left over wont go to waste. We have a local store that is working on an inventory of a couple hundred different bombers. Should be fun.
Have a great humpday eve all.

Yum yum
That's a combo I just discovered recently; quite a good quick breakfast that requires no cooking or heating; just a gallon of coffee to wash it down.
Clint, we could have salvaged the couple skillets we had, but we had bigger fish to fry at the time, so to speak
. Wiffey almost every Sunday used to make a frittata in one of them ... and we miss 'em; but now I usually go the eggs-over-easy route in the bacon (or sausage) pan and I don't see any frowns at the Sunday breakfast table
. (We've definitely kept the tradition of the big Sunday breakfast.)
Mike, glad you enjoyed the visit to Mom's. You know, like my better half, that you need to be with the girl while you can. It was good that D was up there yesterday, as the weather was horrendous in Peoria and Mom had a dentist app't; so D was able to go with her... not that she wouldn't have gone alone otherwise. The ol' girl is doing pretty amazingly, I must say -- especially since she'll be 89 in a couple months. She still drives, has a mouth full of (real) teeth, no glasses after cataract surgery, and is completely mobile. God bless us all.
Jamesbo, we'll work towards that. Yeah, you'd have to take out a 2nd mortgage to send them parcel post. I did hear the N. GA mountains were part of the target for the storm. Kinda' glad we're not up there now.
Hope the aches & pains are subsiding. If yer keepin' the Chibby 4X4, you can get a numbers-matching body-off restored '69 H-O with dat insurance $. Jes put a little magnetic placard for your enterprise on the side and make it bi'ness expense.
Clint, sounds like Tommy will never fly again.... Hope you can fit him in a bag. We got a 20-pounder, but those frozen things are about 1/4 juice; so we'll prolly end up w/ about 15 lbs of bird. But that Pepperidge Farm stuffing will blow him (actually, I think "her") up like a balloon.
It was "only" 47* at the Plantation this morning, and about 51 on S. Shore; steady mist on the way down... plain ol' miserable. Rain spose to continue all day -- along w/ north wind -- then drop another 15 degrees or so tomorrow nite into Turkey Day. But at least it should be dry.
Lakeshore Drive, which runs along the S. shore of Lake Pontchartrain in N.O. (and also happens to be where I work), is flooded and closed this morning after an all-night rain with steady N. wind.
Y'all have a great tooze-day, Oldsmopals.

Morning All!
Dreary here but warmer, temps at 32. Snow to start this afternoon between 2 - 5 pm they're saying. The brunt of this storm is supposed to miss us, but they're saying the Akron area is gonna get 6-8" possibly. I don't know if Jean will be able to make it down on turkey day, Portage County is under the storm watch.
This week is the 10th year anniversary of us losing Chrissy and Bob in car accidents a week apart, so we don't go out in the snow if we don't have to.
I went out this morning early and backed Teepo out of the garage so I could put the tarp down on the floor to park her on. I added Stabil to the full gas tank and let her run about 20 minutes. No oil change this year, lol. I figured I better get that tarp down this morning before the snow hits us and I couldn't back her out.
Soooo..... I got some bad news yesterday. Maybe bad news. I'm trying to think positive, but am really terrified, lol. My mammogram showed something.
I went to see Dr. Smith yesterday cause I see him every year for an exam after I have my mammogram. He did an ultrasound and then a biopsy. He took like 3 tiny pieces of whatever it is. He said he should know on Friday, and he will call me.
I asked him how big it is, and he said it's bigger than a pea, smaller than a grape. I asked him what he thought, and he said 50/50... I'm sure he knows, he's a surgeon, lol. Not like he hasn't seen it before! So please send prayers my way!!!!!!!
I got home and told Larry and of course I started crying. He didn't even hug me and say everything would be ok.
Just said Oh my God. I coulda used a hug...... So I have to tell Steve and Clay today. You know.... those who never friggin get sick. Clay is out this morning taking his wife to have some kind of procedure, so I'll tell them when he gets here.
Well I can't concentrate, so I'll talk to you all later! Love ya!!

Sandy, I wish I'd have been there to give you a hug.... Keep thinking positive! No amount of worry will change one iota of the results.
Be assured my prayers are with you, and keep the chin up; prolly just an anomaly. The better half had a scare about 10 years ago on an X-ray, and when the biopsy results came back, it was a total false alarm
