Mike - I wasn't aware there was a CO forum get together in ATL - what year was the get together? Is it SOP for someone to yell at you?
I pulled up an image from The Varsity landing (home) page (URL) & zoomed in on it:
(1) What make, model, year is the convertible? I was thinking 1971 Buick Skylark?
(2) Is that a Valiant wagon in the background?

I think that 'vert is a Pontiac, cuz of the 3 gauges in the middle of dash. Maybe 62-65 cuz of older wide buckets- no head rests, Bonneville- Grand Prix?? Think the wagon is a full size Dodge or Chrysler and 2 door is a Chebby Impale 1961?? Great picture!
-- Cold here as has been about 12 degrees this morn. This maybe a snowy winter which I hate - and maybe sort like. Purple Elvis should go for a snowmobile ride.... Problem is, I know better than to ride alone, And my riding buddies are not able to go. I may sell my 2 machines and trailer.

Good morning everyone.

So a different scene when I woke up this morning. The alarm went off and I started laughing. I use my phone as an alarm clock and the noise it gives is a cuckoo clock. I must have been dreaming something funny when the alarm sounded.

I concur with Greg about the convertible and the cars in the background. The hook at the Varsity is when you walk up to the counter to give your order, the person yells "What'll ya have!" and sometimes if you aren't fast enough responding they will throw you out of line.

Greg we've heard this before. You were going to sell the convertible how many years ago? Purple Elvis would be sad if you sold the sleds.

Work is not bad this morning. Not humping it but not slow. And the lead says we'll get out early. Even better. No plans for after work, I really should come up with something.

Okay gonna sign some wheels. Have a good day everyone.

Good morning guys,

I had a fun New Year's day watching some really great college football games. All of the teams I had hoped would win in each of the Quarter Final games of the College Football Playoffs won. That will never happen again!

I was thankful that my daughter Blaire and family made it up to the Wisconsin Dells yesterday without incident for Gabe's tournament this weekend. They have a little fresh snow up there, but the roads don't look too bad from the single pic she sent me. It's definitely cold there though, I see it's 6° there early this morning.

Weather is a little warmer than normal for this time of year here, mid-30's this morning, getting up to mid-40's this afternoon, with gray skies.

No big plans today, or this weekend for that matter. I'll check out how the final games of the NFL regular season go, and see hows the NFL playoffs shape up.

Hope everyone has a great day and week! 😃

Hi guys,

Spent most of the morning catching up on bills and medical insurance crap while Dawn was down the street cleaning house for her elderly friend.

When Dawn got home we clipped Monty's nails which is always an adventure. Maggie just sits on my lap and takes it, but Monty is a terror. We have to muzzle him, and I have to hold him on my lap like a vise! We got him done, but it's never any fun for any of us!

Hope everyone has a great evening!

Watching a news conference right now on the mission to scoop up Maduro. The Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff gave credits to the CIA, NSA, and my old Agency NGA for invaluable support to the planning and execution of the mission. Still makes me proud my Agency is providing invaluable support to our warfighters when they need it and the lives of American servicemen are on the line.

It could also be argued it is what I did when I stood next to Lexi Thompson at the tee box for the US Women’s Open.

Well, Gabe's team took it on the chin this morning up in Wisconsin, 5-3, with the other team's 5th goal being an empty netter after Gabe's team had pulled their goalie.

The loss itself shouldn't have necessarily been a bad thing, but apparently there was some significant team drama centered on Gabe and his Coach. What I'm going to say next is obviously 2nd hand, and from a very biased source, my daughter.

Gabe's Coach started him on Defense, why is anyone's guess when he is a natural Offensive player and his team's leading scorer. Halfway thru the 1st Period the other team was already up 3-0, with all their goals being scored against the Defensive shift opposite of Gabe. Then I guess Gabe's Coach came to his senses and realized, hey if we can't score, we can't win, so he moved Gabe back to his usual Center position. After moving back to Offense Gabe scored on his 1st shift off of a rebound in front of the net making it 3-1 at the end of the 1st. About 5-minutes into the 2nd, Gabe got the puck deep in his own zone and skated past 3 defenders to score making it 3-2. When Gabe came off the ice after scoring his 2nd goal Gabe's Coach casually said to him, don't forget you have teammates out there to help. Gabe didn't really think anything of his Coach's comment and went about his business. The other team scored again near the end of the end of the 2nd making it 4-2. Then a couple minutes into the 3rd, Gabe stole the puck near his own Blue Line and had an open lane, and outraced everyone to the other end to score his 3rd goal to make it 4-3, with about 12-minutes left. When Gabe came off the ice his Coach came over to him and literally started chewing him out saying he needed to start passing the puck. WTH, he had no one to pass it to on his scoring play, it was a breakaway! The poor kid had scored 3 times to get them back in the game, and there was still plenty of time left, but Gabe's Coach's actions left him totally deflated and his aggressiveness was squashed. After the game my daughter confirmed with Gabe's teammates that the Coach had literally yelled at Gabe in front of his teammates about needing to pass the puck when there was no one for him to pass the puck to when he was in a breakawy, she was livid, and thinking about pulling Gabe out of the tournament and coming home. I don't think she'll do that though. Makes me sick that Gabe had a incredible game, but it was overshadowed by his Coach's bullshit! This part is just total speculation on my part, but the only explanation I have for his Coach's behavior towards Gabe is that other parents have complained about Gabe being a puck hog and not a team player. If that's the case, my response would be, well folks, do you what your kid to get more touches, or do you actually want your kid to actually have a chance of winning? I know I'm very biased, but Gabe's team overall is not talented enough to win without Gabe carrying them Offensively. I'm kinda thankful I was not there because had I been, I would have had a hard time restraining myself from saying something to his dipshit Coach myself. Who in the hell chews a kid out for doing exactly what you wanted him to do, score goals! In case you can't tell, I'm just a little pissed! 😠😤🤬

I won't need to make a run to the liquor store. Gabe's team bounced back tonight and won 6-3. Gabe didn't let the crap that occurred this morning distract him, he's tearing it up. He started as Center on the 1st line and had 3 goals and an assist! 😃

As the years go by, I see hockey parents and grandparents haven't changed much. I stopped going to watch the kids play years ago.
The games were good; the parents were insufferable.

My grandsons have been involved in Jr. Hockey for 4 years now and they both love it. My experience with the program as a whole has been a very positive one to date, with an occasional blip of dissatisfaction like the one I experienced yesterday. Maybe since I'm still kind of a newbie to it all I haven't had enough time or experienced enough to become jaded, but right now getting to watch them play is one of the great joys of my retirement and something that I look forward to every time they're on the ice!

Hi everyone.

Survived Walmart. My plan of going on Mondays didn't seem to work out. The bathroom workers will be there tomorrow, hopefully it will be their last day. So we had to go today. There were no electric carts for Mom and the woman standing at the door wouldn't go get her one and Mom raised the roof. Then a customer came in and said, there's one out between two cars. The woman said, I'm not allowed to go outside. Mom said call the manager. The woman said, I can't. It would have been funny if it wasn't so absurd. So much for customer service, that's Walmart for you.

Beautiful here and 60, and it's gonna get better as the week goes on. This afternoon I'm gonna work on my waste oil still. I've been gonna do this for years but have never fully figured out just what to do. Well the day has come I'm going to figure it out.

Chris is that coach paid or is he a volunteer? Kinda hard to bitch at someone who's doing it for free, but he doesn't seem to be the brightest. Maybe if the parents want their kids to have more puck time they can tell them to be better players.

Okay out I go to come up with something brilliant. Hope everyone has a great day.

Mike - What is your proposed waste oil still end product? Is this truly a waste oil still or a used oil still?

Step One- mix waste motor oil with 20% stale unleaded gasoline

Step Two- let settle one week, more won't hurt it

Step Three- filter through 5 micron sock filter

Step Four- Pour it into diesel Suburban and use as fuel

This is exactly what I found on an F150 forum and everyone said they had good luck with it. The engine smoked a little more but they got a tad more mileage.

What I'm calling waste motor oil is what I drain out of the crankcase every 5000 miles.

The point of me buying the diesel Suburban was so I could make my own fuel for it, which would essentially be free. I've got a little into some hardware, but so far less than $100. If it doesn't work eh, so what. If it blows up the engine eh, I'll stick in a big block. If it actually does work, then my monthly expenditures go way down.

Mike - To the best of my knowledge, the coaches are not compensated. However, Gabe is at a level now within the system where in my opinion the Coach should be exercising strategies that not only maximize player development, but also give their team optimal opportunity to win as a team. Gabe's Coach, on more than one occasion, has implemented strategies that in my opinion are not only contrary to player development, but also have significantly impacted the team's ability to be competitive in several games. Just my 2-cents.

Chris - You call out valid criticisms; yet, you get what you pay for. What is the name of the hockey league? Is it Tier II (AAA) level?

Hi guys,

As a result of their 1-1 record in their first 2 games, and their net point differential for those games, Gabe's team was in the 3rd/4th place consolation game today at 1100am. I found a website named Gamesheet that gives a very detailed game summary with all the stats for the Tournament.

The opposing team apparently had a superstar that scored the first 3 goals of the game within the first 9-minutes putting them up 3-0, and it ended 4-1 after the 1rst Period. Gabe's team did not lay down, fighting back to score 2 goals to 0 in the 2nd, one by Gabe. Gabe's team outscored them 2-1 in the 3rd, with Gabe scoring his 2nd and the tying goal (5-5) with 3:37 left.

The game then went to O/T, but unfortunately the boys lost. A valiant effort for sure and nothing to hang their heads about. I really wished I could have seen that one in person! Gabe had an incredible tournament, by my calculations ending up with 11pts (8 goals/3 assists) in his 3 games! I'm so proud of the way he kept fighting and playing his best hockey the whole tournament, especially after the way that 1st game went.

Norm - Something funky is going going on with the CO site. When I open the email notification of a new post from you, I can see the text you posted in the email:
"Chris - You call out valid criticisms; yet, you get what you pay for. What is the name of the hockey league? Is it Tier II (AAA) level?"

However, when I hit the link to actually go to the site to respond, your post is not there???

In any case, I can't answer your question? All I can say is the boys are playing in the "Missouri Amateur Hockey Association - Youth Division", which is affiliated with USA Hockey.

Norm - My bad, I had expected your post with the question to be after my synopsis of Gabe's game, but you had snuck in before that post. I see your original post now.

Chris - The CO website is an IB developers playground replete w/ funky ill-configurations. New IB developer says where can I learn/practice & break stuff (sic=play)? Head to CO.
