Mornin.

Looks like Scot gets the Friday worm

Scum, sorry to hear about the motor. Hopefully it can get by with a hone instead of a bore.

John I hope it dries out well for you and your neighbors.

Paul, When does league start? We had our second week on Wednesday. So far so good.

Allan, I'm figuring that out. Sounds like you're coming right along on the Cutlass.

Mike, I have it back on the road, but the mechanical fuel pump started leaking. I have found a place that offers a kit for it in Ma. So I have that ordered and he'll have to take it to the cruise on the electric pump. I made a block off plate yesterday.

Everyone have a great weekend. stay safe.

Generators are a'buzzin'

Whelp, boys and girl, the water's all down at the Ponchatoula Planation, thank the Good Lord. They will still have some standing water on a few roads around here. Actually, I-55, which I take to N.O. every 'normal' day, is still closed, as is I-10 near LaPlace (the other half of my daily route). So we're going to have to take the Causeway across the Lake (open now).

The aunts are still without power, and it may be a while, as a huge oak had crashed onto their neigbor's house and power lines Tuesday night; it'll be a while before they get that straightened out.

Unfortunately, it's supposed to be in the 90s today, so I'm a little worried about them. My brother that lives a mile or so from them has power as of this morning and offered to bring them over, but they said they'd rather have some hot coffee! So he's doing that for them. We're going to stop in on them on the way to the airport; if things are as bad as they sound, we're gonna' have to get them outa' there; but as I said before, they'll be kickin' and screamin'. They don't need more trauma, and I want to honor their wishes, but there might come a point when we have to lay down the law.

No sign yet they're working on our power around here; it would be great if they restored it before we left, but that's the way it goes. And still no land line.

Anyhoots, thank God for my 2 brothers.

Again, thanks to all the well-wishers and pray-ers.

James, congrats on the step-son's graduation; put that $$ in an account and take a vacation to Europe in a few years....or buy another '69 H-O.

Morning all! Hard to believe its the last day of August already.

I'm sitting the Toyota dealer waiting on Tincanio. How exciting... its starting to get warm out. Temps in the 70's now, heading for 90. I'm sure I'll be turning on the AC at home when I get back.

I'm watching the weather... they're calling for a 50% chance of rain on Sunday and a 60% chance on Monday now. There goes the BOP on Sunday and the Riverfront on Monday. Hopefully I'll get to a show tomorrow. Nothing close tomorrow - one in Akron I might try to go to. I'll have to see if there are backroads I can take.

I don't know if we're having a cookout or not. I planned on being at shows, but we'll see.

I think I'm gonna go home and work in the front flowerbeds when I'm done here. I noticed a bunch of friggin thistles hiding in the lambs ears last night when I watered, and I'd like to get them out.

I should go by Lins when I'm done though, since I'm this close to Ravenna. I'll see.

The guy came and dumped the gravel around 7:30 this morning! $437.00. Larry had him dump it in the dirt driveway of our rental house next door. He was afraid the truck would smush the asphalt in our drive if he backed it in there. So Larry will be schleping the gravel over to the dug out drive with the bucket on his tractor tomorrow.

No... Teepo will continue to be in the house garage during the months she's out. Larry will probably be going over the gravel with his tractor more than I will with Teepo, lol.

Had a nice cruise at Bellacinos last evening. The place was packed as usual. I have to get the pics downloaded yet. Man I hate it getting dark before 8:30.

Well you all have a great Friday!!

Great Friday Mawning People!

Beautimus here today too. Nice crisp 48° and brisk breeze. Perfect for walking without working up a huge sweat!

Jamesbo - raise?? Ha ha!! Just got my statement from de pension peeps. Dey are increasing da amount dey are takin fer ma health care by closta 35 a month. I kin hardly wait fer Graeme ta gradumacate so he can start lookin after me... LOL that's not gonna happen anytime soon. I feel sorry for the younger generation. They are entering the workforce at a time when the economy sucks and there's no jobs. I predict a huge surge of babies being born in the next few years as dey try to figger out what to do wit der spare time...

Scot - how goes round 2? Haven't forgotten about you. Hope all is well.

John - should try fishin from the porch and see if you get anything. I hear fish will migrate into the shallows in search of more food? Just got an email from Greg at Big Sky this mawnin. They had to custom order and make the cover so he just got it and shipped it yesterday. Looking forward to getting it.

scumdog - Ya have to wait till 7 to have a beer?? Sorry to hear the Cierra's engine is toast. Is Pontiac or Buick more common down there? You could prolly transplant one of them into your Olds. They are the same engine IIRC

Happy Friday night everyone.

Hope everyone is out whoopin' it up. I'm headed to work.

Tony I'm not sure what a boiler is for a house but good luck. I've had all summer to come up with an alternative to giving the gas company copious amounts of money to heat my house and I haven't done it. My plan was to just keep the wood stove going all winter, but I chicken out doing that when I leave the house.

Scumdog the only obvious solution here it so shoehorn a V8 in there. Sorry about the engine. Holden must have used something in the 90s that would work in there.

Hope tonight is an easy one. The last few haven't been great. I'm meeting my neighbors at the airport in the morning, their boys are flying back to New York. They've been here a couple weeks "on vacation" from their duties/jobs at the Jehova's Witnesses home base in Brooklyn. Want to know what they did on vacation? Their dad worked their asses off taking them to work and bidding on big jobs. They probably have to get back to NY to relax.

I'm headed to Chicago after that. Gonna be a rushed weekend. Hope everyone has a good time and parties safely on Monday.

Have a good evening everyone and I'll check in before I leave in the morning.

Good Evening Everyone.

Rainy this morning, but the weather cleared up throughout the day and I ended up going to the drag strip for the evening. I think word is spreading about this strip being open again. There were about 30 cars and a few bikes racing tonite. Unfortunately I wasn't one of them, since I need to keep the Delta not-broken while the driver's window is out of the Cutlass. Still had a great time waching the racing, and I think my hearing is finally coming back, after hearing an Anglia go down the track.

Clint, I don't know when my bowling season is going to start now. I got an email tonite saying that my league is folding. There is another Friday night league, but they are very competitive and I am not sure if that is for me. My teammates and a few other players are looking at a Monday night league, but not sure about that. I will have to think about it.

Allan, thanks for the offer. I'll look into it. All I really need is a new plastic roller I think. I guess I need to take more out of the door to find out.

Have fun at work tonite Mike.

scumdog, good luck finding a solution for your engine.

Hope everyone has a great weekend.

Howdy doody everyone.

In just a few short minutes I'll be headed to the airport to wing my way north. Took the dogs to dog jail when I got home from work this morning. Hopefully the 16 hour trip in a Uhaul with my sister goes smoothly.

Jamesbo you sure do have a lot of company all the time. I forgot how many s-i-l's you have, a bakers dozen?

Come on down to the Awful house any time. I'll introduce you to all my friends. There's Steve, Johnboy, Jim, Joe, Rex, Lil Laura, and then all the people that irritate me. Did you ever make it to the Cuban place you were asking about?

Paul I'm surprised at the number of people who race in the car that brought them. Now I'm not necessarily a fan of trailered cars, but something tells me that if you have one car, and that car breaks, you got a long walk ahead of you.

Allan I've been reading all your work threads and I can't wait to see the finished product. You may need to start wearing your anti-MAW immunity cloak.

Okay time to get going. Hope everyone has a great holiday weekend. As for me, miles to go before I sleep....

Good Saturday evening all!

Been a rather cold day up here. Started out with a hot cup of Arabica coffee with some international flavor (butter pecan) before putting on my windbreaker and heading out for the mawnin walk. My walkin podner across de street was no where's to be found so I went by myself. Good brisk walk for little over an hour.

Then I conned my son into driving me to Part Source (Autozone) and getting a new trolley jack (3 1/2 ton Michelin). Then off to the pet store to buy my weekly supply of pate cause I can't afford much else nowadays. Also bought him a new 1 TB external drive for his puter. Found out the college wants him backing stuff up every day in case of puter failure. I get it now. But at first I didn't understand why his new 1.5TB memory needed another external drive. That gives him an effective 2.5 TB of memory.

Devised a devilishly smart way of draining the rest of the gas from the car and got it done. I'm going to lift it another 5 inches with the new jack tomorrow and start taking fuel hoses off the fuel lines. Should be able to get the tank out with some luck.

Mike - c'mon down and visit that thread anytime and feel free to make comments there. I was busy yesterday and today just updating that and almost didn't get here. If I don't make it to this thread each day, you'll know why.

Paul - If you want I'll go see if I can get that roller off the regulators. They are spares and I'm not going to use them anyway. Can you post a pic of the roller so I get the right one? If it's something I can help you with, it's yours at no charge.

Dan - I witchu bud. Right about now a cold beer and a game seems to be in order.

Jamesbo - You can always crash at my place. I don't allow SIL's here and MILs are only allowed to visit for a few hours. I got 1 cat and it will only sniff ya once and leave ya lone. Git paddlin son!

Scot - Have fun with the RWYD!! I've never done one of those. No guts I guess. Time to buy a new Dodge Ram so I kin have de Guts n Glory!!

Good Evening Everyone.

Nice day today, and looks to continue tomorrow.

The next 2 days (gotta love long weekends!) have a few choices for car shows, 2 each day.

Allan, 2.5TB of memory? He'll have to design quite a few houses to fill that For the rest of this weekend I plan on just having fun with the cars. But I will probably get back to working on it next weekend, if you can wait that long for me to take a pic.

Mike, I think everyone at the track last night that raced a car they drove there also have another car, so less of an issue.

Jamesbo, good luck with the family visit.

Adrian, I know what that can be like. It took about 40 days to get my Cutlass from Phoenix to here. And all but 7 of those days I think were dealing with shipping companies.

Enjoy the rest of the weekend everyone.

Evening All!

It was a hot humid day today. Just yucky. Temps in the 80's with humidity the same.

Teepo and I went to the show at the Akron Baptist Temple today. I had a hard time finding it. Got misplaced once in a not so good part of town.... it was scary!! But we finally got there. Didn't leave early, I was waiting to see what the weather was gonna do. My friends Chris and Pam with the black Buick were there, and Chris said I could follow them out and it would be easier than my mapquest directions. So I followed them and he took us through places I've never been before.... right into a hellacious thunderstorm. I was not happy!!! If I would have come home by my directions, I'd have missed the storm cause I would have been heading in a different direction. Oh well. Looks like Teepo is destined to rust this season.

I spent 4 hours in the garage drying, cleaning and waxing her when I got home. I sure didn't plan on that, lol. We did get a nice Top 30 black plaque. It was a nice show. A few Oldsmobiles were there. I saw the guy, Dave, who is a member of our chapter. He showed me the nice plaque all participants got this year at the Olds show. I still feel guilty that I didn't go.

Nicole came over yesterday afternoon and spent the night. She left about an hour ago. Hope she didn't get in the storm that just came through. We've had several of them this evening.

Larry got the gravel all spread in the driveway today! It looks nice. I'll have to drive Tincanio over it tomorrow.

Well I reckon I'm gonna go to bed. I'm trying to wait to see the weather forecast for tomorrow so I can decide on the BOP show...

LOL Paul. I told him my PVR only has 16GB and it works ok. If I had a 1TB external drive for it, I wouldn't be able to watch it all.

You could, you'd just need 2 or 3 TVs next to each other... Or picture in picture in picture in picture...

Good Morning Everyone. Midway through the weekend. Did already mention I like long weekends!

Sandy, I think you need to get another Olds to use as your rainy day show car. That way Teepo can stay clean and dry and the other one, you'd never have to clean the underside of it.

Speaking of rain, We got our share several times yesterday at the cruise. The Hup and Brittney didn't melt so all was good. The hupp made good time beck & forth from the shop. A coupla times She was doin in excess of 40mph Really 'Splittin the breeze' as me grandfather would say.

I need some help. Found a w-30 for sale but I didn't see red fenderwells. What years had and didn't have those? Seemed like a dry car (always in and from CO.) I have a pic or 2 and info if anyone is interested.

Hope everyone is have a good 3 dayer.

Clint '67 was the first time they used red inner fenders on the W30 and there were the 1st 10 in '72 that had them. So everything between '67 and '71 definitely had them. Some people didn't care for the red contrast back in the day and changed them so that alone cannot be the deciding factor. Documentation is they key here unless it is a '72 and has an X in the VIN. What year is it? Maybe I can help you sort it out.

Allan the "Run What You Brung" is Sept. 29th so I am getting the coupe ready for a day of fun fun fun

Whar's Jamesbo

Have a grand Sunday and a safe rest of the Labor Day weekend

Ya know, I'm an hour and a half from Lansing, and I never see W's for sale, rarely run into them at shows around here. You would think being in Mich. and this close to where they were made that they would pop up once in awhile, "regular" 442's hardly make an appearance. Hope you figure out what it is, and have a chance to buy it.

Sunday mawning an I'm up with de larks, I don't think I'll take me walk in de parks Cow cow cow it's mizzerble day... Bremember dat song from way back??

No kidding it's crappy out. Cow all night long. Wind is gusting around 30mph now, afternoon gusts forecast for 50mph!! Yikes.

Jamesbo - how's de canoe trip? Didja ferget yer paddle somewhere or get waylaid by the IL's? Hate it when dat happens.

Paul - Is it a long weekend? I sometimes forget what day it is now after a year of retirement. Oh wait. Course it's a long weekend - I see the tell tale signs now - Gas is up 7¢/litre (that's 27¢/gal US) to take advantage of those who love to drive. I don't think I could do the 3 tv thing - I get too focused on the shows that I really like to watch.

Scot - Make sure you take your camera to RWUB, love to see how it turns out. Anything special you're doing to the coupe?

Clint - if it's a real W30 just load it up on your wife's trailer and bring it home. You have any pics? I know Scot said 67-71 had the red wheel liners but I've really only seen them in 68-71. There are a lot of cloned 72's that have red liners but that would be highly unlikely for regular 72 production. I'm hoping you're looking at a 70 or 71 car. Both of those should start with 344 VIN's - you prolly know that though. Check the cowl tag if you have doubts about the W30 issue. The W30 was ONLY produced at Lansing. Other factories produced 442s but only Lansing did the W30's.

Ted - you need a W30 car?? What am I saying? Of course you do! Hope all is well on the farm. Harvest going to be good this year? We might be having some bumper crops out west. Some places got flood damage but that will be covered by insurance.

Sandy - consider getting a compressor (doesn't have to be large - somewhere around 8 gallon) in the garage. When you're drying out TPO use the compressed air to blow out the moisture from behind emblems, side marker lights, trim bezels, vinyl roof moldings. You'd be surprised how much moisture and dirt will blow out of there.

Nothing too special Allan. It's already tuned up fairly well, I re-installed the tachometer that was MIA since my Dad passed. And after fussing with new electronic gauges that wouldn't work with the MSD ignition without a special filter, ammeter that didn't work, temp sensor that was a pain in the derriere, speedo that used some crazy sensor and a fuel gauge that required cutting a hole in the fuel cell to install the sender and float, I decided to go back with the Stewart-Warner wings gauges in white that was in it when I inherited it.

Next I need to swap some tires that are on another set of American Racing Salt Flat Special rims that are for a Mopar bolt pattern, change the oil and filter, drain the antifreeze (not track friendly if you have a hose burst) and replace with water and water wetter and finally install a seat belt in the passenger side just in case the TW wants to take a ride down the 1320

Evening All!

Well it was another cloudy humid 'if-y' day here. I decided not to go to the BOP show. Should have though. Not a drop of rain fell. Here, anyhow. I coulda had me another top 20 trophy. Oh well. I don't know if Bob from the bodyshop went with one of his Old's - he called me Friday and I told him I'd probably go, but it depended on the weather.

I went over to the cemetery today. Larry went with me for a change. We stopped at Jeans and visited with her and David, and she went with us to the cemetery. Boy, the grass and weeds on the graves... I felt terrible that I haven't been out there since May. We pulled and tugged and dug weeds and crabgrass out. Looked much better when we were done. Then we went to the DQ and had hot dogs with sauce and milkshakes. We dropped Jean off and came home.

That was about the extent of my day. I don't know what I'll be doing tomorrow. I haven't seen the weather all day, so I don't know if the Riverfront will be cruisin tomorrow evening or not. If not, I'll probably do some cleaning. I gotta get ready for our trip to the New York office golf outing next weekend.

Well you all have a good evening!

Well all. It is a '72. and its a nice car. Probably about the condition of my 67. At least on the outside. I didn't get to look under the hood but underneath is very rust free and not newly painted(AKA covered up) It is a nice car, not sure what it is worth. I did snag a little info sheet and this is what is says:

... looking for new home. 455 is correct casting but not original bloc, original tranny and heads, X in the Vin #, automatic, P/S, front Discs, 81,600 miles, Owned 10 years, stored last 5. Saddle Bronze/White? Saddle interior. One of 632W-30's From 1972. Includes Protectoplate and owners manual. Always a Colorado Car since new....
Here is a pic.

Asking $18,500

Allan, I have seen 67's with the red liners, didn't care much for it myself.

Well, We didn't get much done today, Kinda lazy watching old westerns on AMC. Heard some real loud booms and wondered WTH? went outside and saw this:

The neighbor down the street has a son who is a gear head (and junk collector) had a bunch of cars & motorcycles he was always patching together. Something happened and it looks like the Fiero caught fire and burned his transmaro (Camaro with a trans-am front clip) a couple of Cycles, the fence, the cavalier, and maybe the Blazer. No-one was hurt and they had it out in no time. the house was ok. The good thing is maybe it'll get spiffied up a little.

Listed at 442.com. even w/o the original block, it is a nice looking car for the price.

That's a nice looking W30 Clint. Since it has the X in the VIN that would guarantee it was built as the W30. I'd be curious to see what heads and block they put in there to replace the original. It's a stunning color combo. If the interior is in the same shape as the outside, and you couldn't see any problems under the car I'd be a serious buyer.

Dan - there aren't any 1972 442 W30's on 442.com anymore. Must have sold it?

Allan, I think it has the original heads, but not block. ere are the pics that Dan is talking about. You say the word And I'll go take any pics you want of it. I did notice a little mud above the left taillight that wasn't smoothed out before paint. But the paint is nice. I may even meet you half way if you buy it.

Only 3 pics?? Looks really nice still. One thing that's not period correct though. 1972 never had deck lid spoilers. It was discontinued in 71. Still wouldn't be a major obstacle to the sale, just makes me wonder what else was added. If its local I'd love to see some better detail of the interior, hood, engine, VIN, Cowl tag. Don't go out of your way though, just if it's convenient.

Meet me half way? Heck I thought you'd just drive it up to my place and truck a load of cheap Alberta hay back to CO with your big rig gear jammin bride ....

LOL. Now thats an idea. I just assumed it should have the red fenders, so thats why I asked. I'm not lookin to purchase it, I've caught my limit. But if you are interested, I'll be more than happy to be your eyes and ears. I just googled your city, and am thinking you guys have about 34 days to get in Spring, Summer and Fall... Is that about right? Dang your wayy up there.

Yeah, being this far north has its drawbacks, especially with cross border shopping. That's one reason my Mrs. wants to move to lower BC.

34 days? Sometimes it feels that way. Our daytime high here for the past few days has been around 57-65°. We did have a really hot spell for awhile, but nothing compared to you guys.

Thanks for the offer to be a go to guy on your local car searches! I might just take you up on that one day. I'd LOVE to have that W30. Maybe it will still be for sale after my son is finished college.

re: red fenders. Very easy to think that especially when the previous years 67-71 all did. But then the 72 model year wasn't supposed to look like this. It was supposed to be the introduction of what we now call the 73 colonnade series.

Correction

Morning All,

I think it was Mike who was asking about the fender marker lights on the Chev PU..... The 1972 DID have signal indicators on the fenders....my bad

Sold this truck yesterday to a father, son duo...took a bit of a hit, but it went to a good home!

Love to have that w30car...but I am with Jamesbo, just not in the cards right now

Allan, harvest went really well this year...the wheat was a good crop and the yields were up from last. The hay was average and we expect the same with the soybeans. We seeded white turnip into the wheat fields to maintain soil structure and fertility. It is not harvested, but is left to rot. Then corn will be seeded next year, basically, the turnip is doing what the plough use to..sort of

Well better go clean up, had a 60 wedding anniversary party for my parents yesterday, , had the whole family here all 38 of them

Have a good day Olds people

Ted

Good Labor Day Mawnin All

Yep Clint that's a nice W30 Even with the X in the VIN but wrong block, wing and like Allan said wonder what else has been added, I'd think that $15k - $17.5k would be all of the money so to say. This economy hasn't hurt everyone so who knows?

Well I hope everyone has a good day

Morning All! Happy Labor Day!

It's muggy out and sunny this morning, calling for storms later. We'll see. Temps in the 80's.

Larry mowed the front yard - the grass is still too wet in the back to mow right now. Too many shadows already..... He has to wait until the sun can dry the grass some.

I made some macaroni salad this morning. Now I'm trying to load my pics on to Photobucket and it's taking forever.

I should go up and take Lin shopping and get that over with, but I don't know.

Well you all have a great holiday!

Monday Mawnin Peeps!
Nice to have a long weekend isn't it?

Cool windy one up here. Did the mawnin walk and noticed how many folks are starting to do the same thing. About 92.7% of them are also out being walked by their dog. Ran into one today that took me by surprise. Looked like a Dalmation on steroids. I asked how that happened and the owner said its a breed of Great Dane. That sucker was prolly 4'+ at the top of its head and about 130lbs? Needed a special leash handle to hold onto it. I was thinking maybe one of these mawnins I would take you guys with me....

Scot - from what's been on the news up here I don't think there are a lot of peeps who can justify 18K on a hobby car right now. What's weird though is they can justify 40-60K on a new car they don't look after. Go figure. I'm just as glad though - I'd hate to see someone snap that up as a dd and beat the crap out of it. Worse it could turn into a hoopdee.

Sandy - enjoy your day off. I'll go look for your pics in a bit.

Ted - sounds like you're having a great fall down there! Belated congrats on your Parents 60th! That is a precious anniversary most people don't get to see. Glad you had the space at your spread. Hope you showed off your Olds collection to them.

Jamesbo - ah see y'all found de paddle and wuz able t'come back up river a bit. Wet down der in de mountains? S'pose ta be dis time o yar.

nightshiftbbs - welcome to the mawnin thread. Arabica - 2 cups

Well, gots some things to do in de garage. TTYL
