Mike - I'm glad your buddy is getting the filter for you!

Thanks for the well wishes for Monty. I'm sure he'll be fine, although I do worry about when the day will come when he starts to show a decline because he is past the average life expectancy of an English Bulldog which is 8-years. The good news is he is still very active and playful. As for the separation anxiety if the 2 are separated, I have never noticed it, but they have never been separated for more than a couple of hours. Where I do see separation anxiety is when Dawn is out of the house even for just a few hours, and especially overnight. Monty pouts around and just wants to sleep, then when she gets home he goes crazy. Maggie could care less.

I seem to be somewhat improved, Chris. Went into the plant today.

Norm, the method for those eggs is half a cup of hot water in a coffee mug and drop in egg so it clumps on bottom. The recipe says nuke for 30 sec. My combo oven is not strong, so I nuke for 1 min, or 2 min if there were two mug water egg assemblies in there. Pour off water with a plate blocking the egg, then dump egg on toast. These were slightly overcook as poached implies full runny yoke, these were 30% solid.

John - Thanks very much. I think this is awesome. I routinely drop my eggs in boiling water w/o a poaching utensil to contain each egg. I think your microwave method is superior. Thanks for sharing. I'll get the timing worked out relative to microwave wattage so they are, indeed, runny. I like my poached eggs runny.

John - Hope you're on the mend. I swear to you, a packet of Emergen-C + two Alka Seltzer tablets is the BOMB!

Norm - I may be completely wrong on this, but here's what I think Jim is saying. Jim thought he was buying water skis for a younger child, which would be shorter than adult skis. When the seller brought the skis to Jim they were 64" in length, which would be a length for an adult.

Chris - You make a good interpreter. So, skis are ~2' too long for a young kid. They'll have to grow into them.

Thanks. The only reason I know about this is because when I was young, my parents had a 16ft Starcraft aluminum runabout, with an 85hp Johnson on it that I learned to ski behind. I learned to ski around the age of 7, and my parents bought me child skis because they are considerably easier for young ones to control.

Left the plant, drove into town, bought a white board which was in stock, in the back, that a very zaney and hilarious Asian girl running the Office Depot helped me find. Moved on, got gas, got medicine, got food, got home, and bombed up my driveway in the truck which did indeed hit 300,000 on I-69 while on the phone with Mom.

Grilled chicken, and, while grilling, put one pack of Emergen C and one dose of Alka Seltzer Cold and Flu into half a cup of water which will be known as the Stormin' Norman in our man's honor and slammed that. I feel better already.

Good morning everyone.

John I'm glad you're feeling better. Norm's not going to steer you wrong.

Chris I learned a long time ago not to put any stock into what the "experts" have to say about dogs. I've read any number of German Shepherd books and they all say a GSD will live to be 9 years old. My first Shepherd lived to be 16. The next two lived to be 11. Tiger is 9 now and is fit as a fiddle. When dogs live as well as ours do, they will far outpace the average life span set forth by the experts. That being said, I am already thinking about what I can do when Tiger starts to wear down.

Jamesbo you got enough space out on your lake to start your own Cypress Gardens. How deep is that lake?

So I was working on the diesel Suburban yesterday. I got new V belts for it, the AC belt is exactly the same size as the old one, but will not go on. The old one goes on and off rather easily. The compressor is backed off all the way. I have to be missing something there isn't anything to it. I will loosen the power steering pump and maybe that will give me more slack. I don't remember how I got the PS belt off, the pump looks like it hasn't been moved in decades.

Friday, so I hope things go smoothly today. Errands with Mom tomorrow. I might try to wash the car. Holy cow is it dirty.

Have a great day everyone.

"The Stormin' Norman". I like it!

Pretty frickin cool your truck hit 300K-miles! I've never had a vehicle that even got close to that. I had an 85 Nissan 4x4 Supercab that had 225K on it when I sold it. The buyer (read buyer's kid) blew it up after only having it a couple months. I didn't feel bad because I knew the kid was abusing it by off-roading it.

Mike - I agree with you 100% that most dogs that are well cared for usually outlive their average life expectancy by several years. Remember yesterday when I said Monty was still very playful and energetic. When my wife got to the Vet yesterday, they had about 4 or 5-inches more on the ground than we had at our house, maybe 9 or 10-inches total. When she got him out of the car on the lead and took him over to the grassy/snowy area to see if he had to go before going inside, he took the opportunity to go charging thru it like a snowplow with his face. She couldn't get a video, but was able to snap a couple pics of the result!

Hope you can figure out what's going on with the belt on the Suburban. Good luck and have a nice weekend.

Sometime in grad school (1984-1988) I bought a used 1976 Mazda 626 4-door sedan (184K miles). I moved to Florida (1988), 626 came w/ me, bought a large 21' boat in Florida & towed it w/ the 626. At 226K miles I lost all compression, service garage pulled & shaved the (warped) head 0.04 (I think), installed beefy/taller head gasket - cost = $400. Sold that boat, bought another 21' boat, towed that boat everywhere, cylinder head warped lost compression @ 300K miles. Returned to same mechanic who performed exact same procedure, cost = $480. Told me no more head shaving, max tolerance was 0.08. About 380K miles could tell it was losing compression again. Something about towing a 21' boat w/ a sewing machine 2.0L engine.

Sold the 626 to a salvage yard for $100.

Good morning guys,

Still very cold, 8° at 0800 this morning, but sunny and will get into the mid to upper-20's this afternoon.

No big plans for today.

Gabe's big end of the season League tournament starts tomorrow morning with a game at 0800 at a rink about a 45-minute drive from us. If they win that game, which I'm expecting them to with the way the seedings are, his team will play again at 9pm tomorrow evening. Then if they win that game they'll have a game sometime later in the morning on Sunday. So, I may be doing alot of driving and watching a bunch of hockey, I sure hope so!

Unfortunately, the U.S. hockey team lost the Four Nations Face-off tournament to Canada last night in sudden death overtime. I was bummed!

Hope everyone has a great day and weekend!

Chris - Sounds like it was a great Four Nations Face-Off tournament.

We used to visit Wisconsin Dells each year in the 1950s/1960s - watching the Tommy Bartlett water/skiing shows on Lake Delton was always fun. I used to water ski on many of the Wisconsin/Illinois lakes. I have a niece who trained/participated in those 'pyramid' stacks. Now, her daughter is training in the same pyramid formation stacks. Fun times.

Good progress on re-assembling tools after thorough cleaning, lubrication/oiling, etc. That makes me a very happy camper. Removed the router hold-down assembly from router table, evaluated my hand-held plunger router base against my hand-held router base, re-accustomed myself for depth of cut on each. Slid an appropriate router bit into the router mounted into the non-plunge router base. Pretty sure I have the depth correct, really wanted to give it a spin - I'd like to have a jig/fence on one side before I do this though. The new jig/fence arrives tomorrow afternoon - patience. Hitachi is doing a superior job on paint removal - making those areas a breeze to work with. Began @ 36 grit finished @ 80 grit, began 120 grit on the belt sander today. Found my stash of 3" x 21" sanding belts - have five packs (x5 ea.) of 120 grit. The adhesive which joins the two sides of ea. belt is breaking down & I'm breaking sanding belts. The belts are ~8 - 10 yrs. old (ACE Brand). I've gone through x5 belts where I should still be using one belt. This is getting old fast. Since I have ~25 belts I'll muddle my way through what I have left just to get what I can from them. I ordered two packs (10 ea.) POWERTEC 3" x 21" belts (Amazon) will be here Monday afternoon. Getting down to 120 grit makes the grain sooooooo....nice. No need to go beyond 120 for doors.

New Pfister kitchen faucet set arrives via UPS sometime tomorrow, probably around 12:00 noon. I might work in some door sanding in the morning - maybe not. I'll likely spend the afternoon disassembling/assembling the kitchen faucet set.

Ceramic stove top is removed. Dual heating element has been slowly (past year) going Tango Uniform on the left front. Spent an inordinate amount of time finding the correct element yesterday/last night. Ordered (new) the one I want - will be here later part of next week. Lots of used ones available which supposedly "worked when removed from donor appliance". Thought better on buying a used one - although I've been known to. New ones (still in box) are expensive.

Tossed out some corn for the herd in the backyard. Seven of them cleaned it up & are now grazing in the back yard. They sure do look real tasty.

Mike should have that A/C belt installed by now - fingers crossed.

Liv'n large Norm. Good for you, sounds enjoyable. To be honest I did not like the sound of the deliver deal, your bike, your terms, your safety with the transaction for personal protection and funds authenticity. Close to home close to trust

Keith - The dude was going to pay me cash on the barrel head. I'm still not ruling him out. I checked out the three deli shops he owns in Charleston, SC - they're all legit. He's moving to Montana in 8 weeks & going to open his 4th deli. He's enrolled in the motorcycle safety course. Said he used to ride motorcycles frequently in his teens but blatantly told me he knows nothing of motorcycles. Kinda/Sorta the type guy he wants it but won't/can't figure out how they're put together - which "could" be a good thing if he elects to call me back; which, could happen on larkspur type thing i.e. calls me up, can you deliver on a certain day. Sure, I'll be right there big daddy.

I get it. My brother sold a Hayabusa on line and the guy drove here to wisco for the bike and transaction like 18k or so from what I remember.
He is a trained field law enforcement officer at that time. He made precautions for the cash transaction at a busy gas and go, had me there in the back ground, and had the staff pre-informed of the transaction with their help in currency authenticity in front of the said buyer. Lots of snot nozzles out there buddy, just lookin out for ya. Not preach'n

Haven't thought about it. I was thinking of a Golf Car some years ago. I'd better not get an e-Bike - people will consider me lazy. LOL

Good morning guys,

Norm - I like "Spring" popping out! 👍

Just got back from Gabe's game and they won 6-3. Gabe had no goals and 2 assists. It was not as good as it looks because they were playing the lowest seeded team. His team was up 4-0 at the end of the 1st, and then they got lackadaisical and gave up a couple of cheap goals. They won't be able to play like that tonight and expect to win. Gabe's team is the 5th seed, and they will play the 4th seed tonight at 9pm, on an outdoor rink of all things. It's supposed to be about 30° when the puck drops. The bright side is that even though the team they're playing this evening is seeded higher, Gabe's team is 2-1 against them this season counting league and tournament games. Gabe's team just has to come out and play their best hockey if they want to win.

Hope everyone is having a great day!

Hi everyone.

Had a nice morning running errands with Mom. We started out at Denny's. I don't care for them but Mom likes them so we went. It wasn't bad. Then we went and bought shoes. The girl there remembered us from a year or so ago when we were there last. Very nice. Then we went to buy jeans for my friend's dad but they didn't have the size he wanted. Then we went to Best Buy to get Mom a new Ipad, and after that she was tired and wanted to go home. A nice full morning and it's nice to get her out of the house now and then, for something other than Walmart. Oh that will be tomorrow.

I haven't gotten back to the Suburban. I will try that belt trick but the difference here is I'm working with a V belt and not a flat belt like in the video. I'm not going to waste too much more time on it, if I can't get it I'll go get a longer belt.

Chris that's great the team is doing so well. They have to remember the other teams are doing well to get as far as they have. Hope they are up to the task. No matter what happens the young men should be proud that they did so well.

Gonna press the blue van into pickup truck duty today by going and picking up fairly large tree branches and also some cut firewood. I tell you this being without a pickup really sucks.

Okay have a good afternoon everyone.

Mike - I'm glad you had a nice morning with your Mom. I know several of us have said it before, but you're a great Son. I'm sure she appreciates your time with her much more than she'll ever let on.

You're right about the tournament, the games will just get tougher the deeper they go. Regardless of how far they go in the tournament, the team and Gabe have had a great season. I was talking with Gabe's Head Coach a couple of weeks ago before a game and he told me that he was amazed at how far Gabe's game has come in just a few years. Many of the kids his age have been playing 3 or 4-years longer than he has.

Good morning guys,

Sunny and it's supposed to get into the low 50's today. It should feel like Bermuda out there this afternoon. Hoping this last brutal cold and snow event will be the end of Winter for us.

Well, Gabe's team took it on the chin last night losing 6-2. His team played a great 1st Period and it was 0-0 at the end of the period. The other team scored very early in the 2nd, and it seemed like Gabe's team totally deflated. The other team kept their foot on the pedal and by the end of the 2nd it was 5-0. Not trying to make excuses, but I do think that Gabe's team having played a game early yesterday morning, when the other team did not have to (1st round bye), definitely played a role in Gabe's team's energy level. The bright spot was that Gabe played hard, start to finish, and had a hand in both their scores with a goal and an assist in the 3rd. They had a great season, finishing 5th out of the 12 teams in their league, and won a tournament. Next up is the "All Star" tournament he was recruited for on the weekend of March 15th, and he will be starting the Spring 4-on-4 Development League the week after that. Here's a couple pics:

Covered Outdoor Rink at the St. Louis Blues practice facility where they played last night. Seating capacity 4,000.

Warm-ups. He flicked the pucked at me against the glass right right after I snapped this.

Hope everyone has a great day!
